Carolina must win its final four games while Florida and New Jersey lose their remaining games in regulation to play beyond the regular season.Asked if the playoffs were a realistic goal, Peters answered tersely: ”No.” But Peters believes there are genuine incentives for his team.”You’ve got to play,” he said. ”These guys are pros. You’re paid to play.”Metropolitan Division-leading Washington had won five in a row. Michal Kempny scored his first goal with the Capitals after he was acquired in a February trade with Chicago.”We’ve been playing great the last month,” Capitals forward Devante Smith-Pelly said. ”I don’t want to say this was expected, but a game like this maybe was going to happen eventually. It was probably better tonight than Sunday.”Washington visits Pittsburgh on Sunday, and the teams have a long history.”Overall, obviously we don’t like those guys,” Smith-Pelly said. ”It’s a huge game. We’ll be back.”Carolina goaltender Scott Darling stopped 20 shots, and Braden Holtby had 26 saves for Washington.Capitals coach Barry Trotz thought his team was simply outplayed.”This league is way too good if you have a little bit of an off-night or you’re not on your `A’ game, this league can humble you in a very hard way and a quick way,” Trotz said. ”We didn’t have enough invested. We didn’t have enough guys pulling on the rope.”Kempny put the Capitals in front at 2:35 of the second, but Carolina’s Derek Ryan quickly responded. He beat Holtby for his 14th goal at 3:15.”There’s pride on the line,” Ryan said. ”We’re not quite in the playoff race. WASHINGTON (AP) — Barry Trotz returned to his old home arena to face the team he coached to the Stanley Cup. In true Trotz fashion Brian Elliott Jersey , the Islanders suffocated the Capitals to win for the 14th time in their past 17 games.“We just talked about climbing,” Trotz said. “It just happened that the Caps were the next team in front of us. New York held Washington under 20 shots and improved to 7-0-0 in the second half of back-to-back sets this season.“Going into it you’re maybe a little more conscious of playing the right way and make sure you’re playing smart and doing the right things just because the tail end of the back-to-backs sometimes the legs aren’t there quite as much as the night before,” said Bailey, who redirected Mathew Barzal’s shot past Braden Holtby 5:08 into the second period. “I think we’re really buying in, playing a good, solid team game.”The Capitals have hit a rough patch under new coach Todd Reirden Womens Claude Giroux Jersey , losing four in a row for the first time since March 2017. Washington has just one 5-on-5 goal during its skid and has lost seven of 10.“We’re not generating enough offense,” Reirden said. “We were better at not giving up quite as many chances tonight, but yet they were able to convert on the ones that they got. Nowhere is Connor McDavid more comfortable than on his skates. The sight of McDavid blowing past defenders is an almost every-game occurrence for the Edmonton Oilers captain whose speed is the envy of the NHL. McDavid’s crossover moves that propelled him a league-high 108 points came from years of cruising around on rollerblades.“Even when I wasn’t on the ice, I was always on my rollerblades,” McDavid said. “It’s what’s kind of got me here. I love training that way. It’s kind of just by yourself. There’s no fancy skill coach, there’s no nothing. It’s just on your rollerblades and working on some skills.”That work has paid off for McDavid, the near-unanimous choice as the fastest skater in hockey. His peers are in awe of the 21-year-old’s quick first step, even quicker second step and shake-your-head acceleration.“The way he skates, it’s something impossible, right?” Washington center Evgeny Kuznetsov asked.“He glides faster than a lot of us skate,” Winnipeg forward Mark Scheifele said.“I don’t know how he does it Jakub Voracek Jersey Kids ,” Dallas captain Jamie Benn said.McDavid credits roller hockey games against his dad and brother for refining his 1-on-1 skills. Growing up in Newmarket outside Toronto, McDavid was seen as hockey’s next generational star at age 14 but he didn’t spend so much time on the ice that he forgot his rollerblading roots.“The classic ‘Mighty Ducks,'” he said. “Put the garbage can there and just go out and play.”Some of the best in the league think long and hard about how to force McDavid to go the way they want him to go and toe the line between giving him too much space. There isn’t a simple way to stop McDavid because no one can keep up with him.“There’s not a lot of times where he toe-drags you or he over-under-arounds you kind of thing, where he turns you inside out,” Ducks defenseman Josh Manson said. “He just kind of puts it by you and his speed takes him and he makes you miss. Then he’s around you and he’s going in on the goalie and he’s probably going to score.”After his 41 goals were sixth-most in the league, McDavid said over the summer he will try to score more this season. Former Oilers teammate and 2018 MVP Taylor Hall thinks McDavid could do it.“When everyone thinks that he’s at his peak, he just keeps getting better and better, whether it’s goal-scoring or leadership — whatever it is,” the Devils’ leading scorer said. “Everyone thinks that Youth Jordan Weal Jersey , ‘OK he’s got 108 points, he’s going to get around that next year.’ There’s a good chance that he gets 115 or 120 and I wouldn’t be surprised. Just with the sublime skill that he has and the athleticism is just out of control.”McDavid’s athleticism is different than Sidney Crosby’s because the Penguins captain derives his skating stride from lower-body strength. McDavid has quicker feet and the stick work to match.“When he gets the puck on his stick, his hands move as fast as his feet and it just looks so easy for him,” Kings forward Tyler Toffoli said. “The way he crosses over and gains so much speed on guys and he’s able to beat a whole team by crossing over and making one move, it’s incredible to watch.”McDavid won the fastest skater competition at All-Star Weekend the past two years. Even speedy contemporaries like Hall and Nathan MacKinnon consider him the standard. But to McDavid, there’s still another gear he can get to with his speed.“There’s always ways to improve,” McDavid said. “Guys that have the best shot in the world still shoot pucks, and that’s for a reason. You keep growing your game and finding different ways to produce. I definitely still work on my skating a lot.”
WASHINGTON (AP) The Vegas Golden Knights have long embraced their status as unheralded underdogs http://www.coyotesproshop.com/authentic-oliver-ekman-larsson-jersey , from their very first game as an NHL expansion team in October through their stunning dismantling of Winnipeg in the Western Conference Final.”We call ourselves the Golden Misfits for a reason,” winger Ryan Reaves said prior to the Stanley Cup Final series against Washington. ”We’ve proven everyone else wrong all season.”Vegas entered the Final as favorites over the Capitals, who broke into the league in 1974 and are still in search of their first championship. The Golden Knights won the opener, but after dropping two in a row they find themselves playing a familiar role as they prepare for Game 4 on Monday night.”We’re still underdogs,” left wing David Perron said. ”They’re a great team over there. Now the pressure is on them to keep going. We’re going to find a way to answer.”The Capitals got caught up in a fast-paced, fire-at-will contest in Game 1, and Vegas rolled to a 6-4 victory. Washington made the adjustment in Game 2 and won 3-2, then gripped the defensive clamp even tighter Saturday night in a 3-1 win. Now, mired in their initial losing streak of the playoffs and trailing 2-1 in games for the first time, the Golden Knights are desperate to become more effective pushing the puck toward the net.”We get it out on our blue line and we try to make a cross-ice play and they’re picking it off,” Reaves said. ”Their transition game is good. We’re getting to their blue line and we’re trying get cute again instead of doing what works. With this team, that’s getting it in and then going to work.”The Capitals know this http://www.bruinsshoponline.com/authentic-anders-bjork-jersey , and they have taken great strides to shackle a team that averaged 3.31 goals per game during the regular season, tied for fourth in the NHL.”Offensive teams have certain tendencies, certain routes that they take through the neutral zone, plays they like to make,” Washington defenseman Matt Niskanen said. ”So if you can be on top of them and turn over some pucks, stifle them, make it hard for them to gain entry with possession, that frustrates skilled players.”The Golden Knights mustered only 22 shots on goal in Game 3, with Tomas Nosek getting the lone score after Washington goaltender Braden Holtby did a miserable job of clearing the puck from behind his net.”They defended well. We were getting clogged up a little bit,” Vegas winger James Neal said. ”They sit back. We’ve got to get pucks to the net. We didn’t have enough shots. We didn’t have enough bodies going to the net. They out-battled us. We’re going to look at that and fix it.”That’s what Sunday’s skate was about. The Golden Knights understand the problem, and the task now is to correct the shortcoming.”We’ve just got to get back to our game, getting pucks deep and getting in on the forecheck http://www.bruinsshoponline.com/authentic-brad-marchand-jersey ,” defenseman Derek Engelland said. ”It’s been our key all season long, the five-man forecheck and five-guy pressure all over the ice.”Vegas doesn’t need a high-scoring, freestyle affair to win. The Golden Knights have a pair of 1-0 shutouts during the playoffs and have won twice when scoring only two goals. The key is to cut down on the mistakes. Golden Knights goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury stopped Alex Ovechkin at the end of a 2-on-1 rush early in the game, but the Capitals converted an odd-man blitz in the second period for a 2-0 lead.”Working hard to get down low, we just couldn’t hold onto it or make a big play, and the Capitals are going the other way,” Vegas center Ryan Carpenter said. It’s not by accident. Washington coach Barry Trotz changed things up after Game 1, and the results were profound.”There are things that they do that have given us some difficulties, and we’ve adjusted,” Trotz said. ”They’ll do the same.”The Capitals have fortified their defense, and Vegas now must find a way to penetrate the barrier. If it can do that, then Fleury will happily do his part in to help bring the series back to Las Vegas tied a two games apiece.”I have faith in these guys that they can do well http://www.bruinsshoponline.com/authentic-david-krejci-jersey , they can do what they’ve done for the past three rounds and all season long,” the goaltender said. What they’ve done, more often than not, is win when few thought they could.”We’ve been in situations like this before: adversity, have our backs against the wall a bit,” defenseman Luca Sbisa said. ”The belief in our group is still here. The shot appeared to take a deflection off Detroit’s Tyler Bertuzzi, who was trying to pressure Kempny.“We felt like our forwards were really fighting hard to get to the front of the net, and we didn’t deliver enough pucks there. That was the message in between the second and third,” Capitals coach Todd Reirden said. “We were able to convert on that after.”The Capitals won the Stanley Cup last season on the strength of a dynamic power play, but that unit is now 1 for 31 over the past 10 games after four more empty opportunities Sunday. Detroit wasn’t any better, though. The Red Wings were 0 for 3 and were unable to convert after T.J. OTTAWA http://www.officialknightsproshop.com/authentic-adidas-james-neal-jersey , Ontario (AP) — The Vancouver Canucks traded goalie Anders Nilsson and minor-league winger Darren Archibald to the Ottawa Senators for netminder Mike McKenna, forward Tom Pyatt and a sixth-round pick in the 2019 draft on Wednesday.Nilsson, 28, had a 3-8-1 record with a 3.03 goals-against average and an .895 save percentage this season with Vancouver as Jacob Markstrom grabbed the reins as Vancouver’s No. 1 goalie.Archibald, also 28, had one goal and one assist in nine games with the Canucks to go along with 16 points (11 goals, five assists) in 23 games with the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League. After the deal was announced, Archibald was assigned to the AHL’s Belleville Senators.McKenna, 35 Jonathan Marchessault Jersey , was 1-4-1 with a 3.96 goals-against average with Ottawa this season, while Pyatt, 31, had two assists in 37 games. The Canucks and Senators, who are currently without injured starting goalie Craig Anderson (concussion), were set to play in Ottawa on Wednesday night. NEW YORK — The New York Rangers are shaking things up Wednesday in hopes of snapping a lengthy losing streak against the New York Islanders. If the words spoken Sunday afternoon by coach Barry Trotz were any indication, the Islanders will be shuffling the deck as well.Backup goalie Alexander Georgiev will make a rare start for the Rangers on Wednesday night when they host the Islanders in a battle of longtime rivals at Madison Square Garden. Both teams are coming off a game against the visiting Dallas Stars. The Rangers continued their recent hot play Monday with a 2-1 win over the Stars, who began a five-game road trip Sunday by routing the Islanders 6-2.Article continues below ...The Rangers (11-8-2) have won eight of their last 10 games (8-1-1). The only game in that span in which they didn’t collect a point? Last Thursday, when the host Islanders posted a 7-5 win at Barclays Center. The Islanders’ win was their franchise-record eighth straight against the Rangers. Hall of Fame-bound goalie Henrik Lundqvist has started six of those games Womens Bobby Orr Jersey , including last Thursday when he was pulled after allowing five goals in the first two periods. Lundqvist was spared the loss, which was handed to Georgiev, because the Islanders’ sixth goal ended up being the game-winner.If all goes according to plan for the Rangers, Lundqvist will be watching a bunch of hungry teammates Wednesday night.“We have a little bit of a chip on our shoulder because of how it’s gone as of late,” defenseman Brendan Smith told reporters after practice Tuesday. The Islanders (10-7-2) may feel the same way after Trotz’s blistering assessment of Sunday’s loss — the most lopsided defeat for the Islanders since Trotz became head coach before this season. Goalie Thomas Greiss was pulled after allowing the first three of the Stars’ four goals in the second period, but Trotz made it clear afterward he wasn’t blaming Greiss, who allowed two goals or fewer in five of his first nine starts this season.“I heard Thomas take the blame for a couple goals — no, they’re not hiding behind the goalie tonight, sorry Marc-Andre Fleury Jersey ,” Trotz said. “Thomas has played very well for us over the course (of the season) and he’s covered up a lot of our mistakes. So I’m putting this on the team. We need more from some of our top guys. Plain and simple, (he’s) done protecting them.”The Islanders didn’t practice Tuesday, so it will likely take until faceoff Wednesday to determine who he may have been targeting. One possibility is struggling defenseman Nick Leddy, who was on the ice for four Stars goals Sunday and is a minus-45 since the start of last season.Georgiev hasn’t played since he made his first career appearance against the Islanders and stopped five of six shots in the third period. He last started Nov. 10 when he picked up the win after making 34 saves in the Rangers’ 5-4 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.Robin Lehner, who made 11 saves in relief of Greiss on Sunday, is likely to draw the start for the Islanders. Lehner made his most recent start Nov. 10, when he took the loss after making 27 saves as the Islanders fell to the Florida Panthers 4-2. He is 2-4-2 in eight career games against the Rangers.
OTTAWA — The 2018-19 Ottawa Senators know how difficult it is to beat Pekka Rinne. What they probably don’t realize is that the Nashville Predators veteran goalie has dominated their team for years.Rinne has an 8-3-0 career record against the Senators that includes victories the last seven times he has faced them.Article continues below ...In his last five wins over Ottawa http://www.officialhockeypanthersshop.com/authentic-adidas-roberto-luongo-jersey , he has allowed just four goals. When the teams met Dec. 11 in Nashville, Rinne muffed a backhand by Zack Smith at the 26-second mark of the first period, then was flawless the rest of the way, stopping the next 25 shots in a 3-1 victory. With a comfortable seat on the end of the bench to watch Juuso Saros defeat the New Jersey Devils 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday, Rinne is sure to get the call when the Predators visit the Senators on Monday night at Canadian Tire Centre. The 36-year-old will be trying to build on a remarkable season that sees him with a 14-5-1 record and with a league-leading 1.96 goals-against average, the only starter in the league below 2.00. His .929 save percentage is also tops among all goalies who have played in at least 20 games.“I don’t know how he does it,” Predators coach Peter Laviolette told The Tennessean. “He’s getting older and you wouldn’t know it. It doesn’t seem to affect him.”The Predators (22-10-1) are riding a three-game winning streak. The visit to Ottawa marks the first of a four-game road trip that includes stops in Chicago 24 hours later, Philadelphia on Dec. 20 and Boston on Dec. 22.The Senators (14-16-4) are coming off their third 5-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens in 12 days. They have won just two of their last five games but can take solace in the fact they’re returning to friendly confines after a three-game road trip. Ottawa has one of the best home records in the Eastern Conference at 10-5-3.The Senators could also be getting some help. Signs are pointing to the return of center Matt Duchene, who was the team’s leading scorer with 34 points when he was knocked out of the lineup with a groin injury on Dec. 6. It’s also looking like defenseman Mark Borowiecki could be back in the lineup for the first time since exiting Nov. 21 with an upper-body injury. The Senators could use the reinforcements. They led the Canadiens 2-1 after two periods on Saturday before giving up four straight goals in the third period. Coach Guy Boucher put the fade on the fact that it was their second game in 24 hours and they were playing a “fast” team.“We let them come at us in waves,” winger Bobby Ryan told reporters. “We didn’t have a match for their energy and the number of pucks they put on net. We sat back a little too much. We were a stick-length away all night.”After the game against Nashville, Ottawa is off until it travels to play New Jersey on Dec. 21 and returns home to host Washington on Dec. 22. The Senators then have a five-day Christmas break before visiting the New York Islanders on Dec. 28 and then returning home to again entertain the Capitals on Dec. 29. Richard. Those Hockey Hall of Famers and the rest of the players who won an NHL championship from 1954-65 are being stripped off the Stanley Cup this spring to create room for a new layer of names without making the trophy too big to be skated around the ice by the winning captain or checked on an airplane for its next journey.”People in Saskatchewan are a little upset Gordie’s name is coming off, but that’s the tradition,” said Mike Bolt, one of the Hall of Fame staffers assigned to escort the Cup around the world. ”It can’t get any bigger. … We wouldn’t be able to do what we do.”Perhaps the most iconic trophy in sports, the Stanley Cup is unique among major prizes because the NHL passes it from team to team instead of producing a new one for every champion. It’s also the only one that includes the name of every player to win it in each season – though the names come and go.Since it was first donated in 1892 by Lord Stanley, the governor general of Canada, the Cup has grown from a 7-inch-high bowl to a 3-foot trophy more the size of a large wedding cake, with three small layers under the original bowl and five more bands under that that fit about 13 years of champions apiece. The top one of those bands, honoring much of Toe Blake’s Montreal Canadiens dynasty and three of Punch Imlach’s four titles in Toronto, will be removed in a matter of weeks. It will be flattened and displayed along with two previously retired rings – covering the 1927-40 and ’41-53 championship teams – at the Hall of Fame in Toronto. (In place of the name-by-name listing, teams are engraved on the upper rings). The process will need to be repeated every 13 years, meaning a player’s name lasts on the Cup a maximum of 65 years.”I run into some of the older timers, like from the `70s Womens Anze Kopitar Jersey , even the `80s. They’re always like, `Hey, Mike. How many years have I got left on the Cup?”’ Bolt said. ”Some guys start doing the math, `Oh, I won’t be around anyway.’ But if you win it when you’re young, you’re going to be around when your name comes off.”On tour to promote the start of the NHL playoffs on April 11, Bolt stopped at The Associated Press bureau in Boston this week after visiting a children’s hospital and before going to a hockey arena to surprise another group of kids. He dons white gloves and unsnaps the latches to reveal the Cup in its form-fitting, blue velvet travel sanctuary. The black base is chipped and dinged from years of celebrations by joyous champions. There are also a few misspellings, and one name is crossed out. Still, seeing the trophy remains a thrill for many fans; earning a spot on it is the ultimate goal for every NHL player who has ever laced up a pair of skates.”That’s the best part of the job, watching the reaction. That’s one of the things that does not get old,” said Bolt, who accompanies the Cup on its travels for the traditional summer tour that allows every player on the winning team to spend a day with it – often in his hometown Authentic Derek Forbort Jersey Kids , no matter where on the globe he grew up.”I’ve seen grown men cry; they can’t believe they are this close to it,” Bolt said. ”It’s like a celebrity. Everybody’s always happy when the Cup’s around.”Players like Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull and Maurice ”Rocket” Richard might not have known that their immortality has an expiration date, but modern players realize getting one’s name on the Cup isn’t forever any more.”We knew it’s going to be there for about 40 years,” said Patrice Bergeron, a member of the Boston Bruins‘ 2011 championship team who is hoping to extend his time on the Cup with another title this year. ”It’s still pretty special.”Brad Marchand, who also won it all in 2011, was consoled by the knowledge that the band with his name will go on permanent display at the Hall of Fame after it is removed.”You can’t take away the fact that we won,” he said. ”We’ll still have all the memories.”VULCANIZED RUBBER SOULFans in Nashville have come up with a way to pass the time while waiting for video reviews. In the five games since his return, Wilson has shown just how valuable he is to the Capitals.Wilson scored 54 seconds into the contest to set the pace and Washington defeated the Chicago Blackhawks 4-2 Wednesday night for its first three-game winning streak of the season.Andre Burakovsky, Michal Kempny and Devante Smith-Pelly added goals for the defending Stanley Cup champions. This win was easier for the Capitals, whose previous two victories came in overtime. Braden Holtby stopped 37 shots for Washington.Wilson was originally suspended for 20 games for an illegal check to the head of St. Louis forward Oskar Sundqvist in the teams’ preseason finale. That suspension was reduced to 14 games by a neutral arbitrator, but by the time the decision was rendered, Wilson had already missed 16 games.Had the 20-game suspension stood, this would have been Wilson’s first game. They also beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 during the trip, and coach Rick Tocchet was encouraged by his team’s play during a 5-3 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.Maybe the Coyotes still aren’t quite where Tocchet would like them to be — they have scored an NHL-low 14 goals in eight games — but they’re much better off than they were last October, when their season was effectively over by Halloween. While they are more competitive Adidas Jordan Schroeder Jersey , the Coyotes would like to start winning at home — and start scoring some goals. Hoffman came back just seconds later with a drive from the right circle that beat Keith Kinkaid, giving him 23 points in his last 20 games.“I didn’t see (the first shot) at all if it went in or not. I shot it kind of through the goalie and heard it hit the post and then that’s all I saw,” Hoffman said. “All I really had to do (on the second shot) was hit the net. It was a good comeback win for us, good character win. This group has been searching for that for a little bit now and it’s nice to see.”With their goalie pulled for an extra skater, the Panthers tied it 3-all on Jonathan Huberdeau’s 100th career goal with 1:29 left in the third period. Taylor Hall had just scored two more goals in another big New Jersey Devils victory when his general manager asked him a simple question.”I said, `Taylor, what’d you get tonight?”’ Ray Shero recalled. ”He goes, `We got two points is what we got.’ He had a smile on his face. And I knew he was not going to say two goals. I knew it. We got two points.”That’s what Shero wanted to hear from the player most responsible for New Jersey’s turnaround from lottery afterthought to playoff contender. Hall is without a doubt the Devils’ most valuable player but he is one of about a dozen candidates for the overall NHL honor. The race for the Hart Trophy is one of the most crowded, convoluted and subjective in decades. An MVP case can be made for Hall, Colorado’s Nathan MacKinnon, Los Angeles‘ Anze Kopitar, Washington’s Alex Ovechkin, Philadelphia’s Claude Giroux, Tampa Bay’s Steven Stamkos and Nikita Kucherov, Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin, Boston’s Brad Marchand, Winnipeg’s Blake Wheeler, Nashville’s Pekka Rinne and Edmonton’s Connor McDavid. The award is given to ”the player adjudged to be the most valuable to his team.”Reigning Hart winner McDavid leads the league in points and should take home the player-voted Ted Lindsay Award as most outstanding player, but the Oilers have long been out of playoff race, hurting his candidacy to some extent and showing how valuable the other contenders are.Shero said matter-of-factly the Devils ”wouldn’t be in the race” without Hall. The same can be said for the Avalanche without MacKinnon Andrew Ladd Jersey , the Capitals without Ovechkin and the Flyers without Giroux.”Offensively, he’s such a big part of how we generate goals,” Ovechkin teammate T.J. Oshie said. ”Whether he’s scoring them or not, when he’s on the ice, he’s a concern for the other team. Where we’d be at? I don’t know. I’m not sure.”Washington won the Metropolitan Division for the third consecutive year thanks in large part to Ovechkin after losing Marcus Johansson, Justin Williams, Daniel Winnik, Nate Schmidt, Karl Alzner and Kevin Shattenkirk from a group that captured the Presidents’ Trophy last season. Ovechkin averages 20 minutes a night, has scored 18.7 percent of the Capitals’ goals and leads the league with 46 while not missing a single game.Kopitar is another ironman who leads all NHL forwards in ice time, is fifth with 91 points and has the Kings on their way back to the playoffs. GM Rob Blake said Kopitar means ”pretty much everything” to Los Angeles, particularly because the two-way star has done it all most of the season without No. 2 center Jeff Carter.”When I look at that MVP race and importance to a team, I think Kopi’s head and shoulders above everybody: to do what he’s had to do without the advantage of having Carter come back on the ice after,” Blake said. ”He had to go with Nick Shore and Adrian Kempe on the ice every shift after. He leads forwards in minutes. His defensive stats and some of the advanced stats show the commitment that he’s had, and it’s from day one.”Two-way play extends to Giroux, who has put Philadelphia on his back at times. Giroux has a career-high 97 points – trailing only McDavid and Kucherov – has won 58.6 percent of faceoffs and run the power play and played the penalty kill for a team that has needed to get wins from four different goaltenders.”When you talk about that type of an award there’s a lot more to it and G does a heck of a lot more for this hockey team than just score points,” coach Dave Hakstol said. ”And believe me it’s hard to score points in this league Anthony Beauvillier Jersey , so I’m not downplaying that. I’m telling you how important a lot of the other things he provides are to our hockey team.”MacKinnon has provided a spark with 38 goals and 56 assists for the Avalanche, who are still fighting to make the playoffs.”He’s a threat to shoot, threat to take pucks to the net, delay and find people,” coach Jared Bednar said. ”He’s got a little bit more change of speed and change of gears on his attack this year.”Given the success of the Lightning, Bruins, Penguins, Predators and Jets, it’s hard to discount Kucherov, Stamkos, Marchand, Malkin, Rinne and Wheeler. Even Vegas’ William Karlsson or Columbus’ Artemi Panarin could get some consideration. While Winnipeg GM Kevin Cheveldayoff thinks Wheeler has shown his value beyond his league-tying 67 assists, he knows nothing about the Hart is a slam dunk.”It speaks volumes to the league and to the importance these players have on their team,” Cheveldayoff said.—AP Sports Writer Pat Graham in Denver contributed.—

Petr Mrazek stopped 31 shots for the Hurricanes.“We did a good job just to stick with it, get the pucks deep and do our thing,” Teravainen said. The Flyers lost the last four games of a five-game road trip and not even a return home could help the hapless franchise. Schmaltz record his first of two assists on the play.Stepan found Archibald cutting past the hashmarks with 6:49 left in the third to pull the Coyotes within one Semyon Varlamov Jersey , and Ekman-Larsson fired a sharp-angled shot over Lundqvist’s glove to tie it 3:48 later.“Everyone is tired of losing,” Ekman-Larsson said. “It could have easily gone the other way. I feel like we have a different group, nobody ever gives up on a play or in a game. That’s what we want to keep building on. We want to get back in the playoff race and that’s how you do it.”Buchnevich opened the scoring when he hammered a one-timer at 4:01 of the first period. The Russian winger missed the previous 13 games with a broken thumb. Jimmy Vesey had an assist on the play to extend his point streak to three games.Hayes tallied his eighth of the season with 3:34 left in the opening period. Mats Zuccarello delivered a well-placed cross-ice pass to set up the goal. Chris Kreider was planted in front to provide a screen, and Neal Pionk recorded an assist. Pionk leads the Rangers in power-play assists (10) and power-play points (12) this season.“We have to figure it out,” Rangers coach David Quinn said after his team squandered a three-goal lead at home for the second straight time. “We have to get better.”New York was 1-15 on the man-advantage in the previous eight games and Arizona entered the game with the NHL’s top penalty killing unit.NOTES: Rangers D Kevin Shattenkirk will be sidelined two-to-four weeks with a separated shoulder sustained in the previous game against the Lightning. … The Rangers scratched F Lias Andersson for the first time since recalling the 2017 seventh-overall draft pick from Hartford of the AHL on Nov. 5. … Rangers D Adam McQuaid did not dress but has been practicing in a regular contact jersey for the previous few days and is expected to return to the lineup in the coming days. … Coyotes F Alex Galchenyuk missed a second straight game with a lower-body injury and is considered day-to-day.UP NEXTCoyotes: At Carolina on Sunday.Rangers: Host Vegas on Sunday.

The Dolphins have lost two straight games, one being blown out from the opening kickoff and one losing in a fourth-quarter collapse. That has lead to frustrating questions about the team, both within the team itself and within the fanbase. Once again, you brought some strong questions to the mailbag, and here are the answers to some of them. Many of the questions this week were similar http://www.authenticsmiamidolphins.com/cheap-t.j.-mcdonald-jersey , so I selected one that I thought would allow me to touch on most of the other questions. If you want to get your question into next week’s mailbag, watch for the request post on Wednesday. Still a waste of space! - 39 is number 1Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers.15.Sign up HERE to take our weekly Dolphins survey. When would Gase and/or Tanny officially be on the hot seat? Another loss? Several losses? Missed playoffs? Not this season at all, regardless of outcome? - GetOffMyFlipperSon!!!It depends on the rest of this year. If the team continues to collapse like this, maybe this is the year. But, last season was a lost season from the moment Ryan Tannehill was injured, so that really will not have an impact on what happens with this season. I could see a situation where the team decides Tannehill is not their quarterback and moves next year to find his replacement, but I do not think, short of a complete collapse this season Authentic Jesse Davis Jersey , Adam Gase ends up on a hot seat. Will Ross sell the team after the season and leave this mess for some one else to try and fix . All new front office and coaches? - DolfanjoeNo.I understand that Sterrup is the better back up LT, but Young was active because he can play both sides, though he is better at RT. Is there truth to this? - jonmanI think that is really what happened there. Sam Young is the “swing tackle” for the team, able to move between left and right tackle as needed - except we discovered this week, that was not exactly true. There is always going to be a drop off when a starter is replaced, but it was severe on Sunday. I think a situation where they wanted one guy to be a bandaid for an emergency situation in a game over two positions came back to bite them when Young never got comfortable at the position. The Dolphins shed three of their largest contracts this offseason, including Suh, Landry, and Pouncey. That should have allowed us to acquire better depth across the entire team for this season. So how come EVERY SINGLE TIME we lose a starter to injury, there is a truly disastrous dropoff to the backups, whatever the position may be? Is it a problem with talent acquisition, or are the coaches failing to adequately “coach up” the backups? - Redwood_I do not think that is completely true. DeVante Parker’s been out most of the year, and it was not a disastrous drop off. MarQueis Gray and A.J. Derby have been the starters at tight end, and it has not been a disastrous drop off to Mike Gesicki. Reshad Jones out, Minkah Fitzpatrick to safety and Torry McTyer to cornerback has not been disastrous. Even with the loss of Josh Sitton, it was rough at first, but Ted Larsen has not been disastrous. The Dolphins have had some bad luck - especially when it is already 60 percent of the offensive line has missed time due to injury. Yes, there has been a drop off when a starter is replaced, but it is hard to have 53 starting caliber players on the team. The only thing I have for Georgia is in Atlanta at Rosita’s Pizza and Sports Pub. If you aren’t going to make the drive into Atlanta, I turn to the rest of our readers and ask them to help find a place in/closer to Woodstock than that.
Plays to Love http://www.panthersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-taylor-moton-jersey , Plays to Hate (aka “P2L, P2H”) looks at the most significant plays in swinging momentum and impacting the eventual outcome of the game. There is always plenty to hate about NFL officiating, so we will only focus on the plays on the field, not the refs.Three plays to love2nd Quarter 10:28 – Panthers 3, Falcons 3. Panthers ball 3rd-and-5 at ATL 15The Situation: The Panthers faced third down in the red zone, looking for a touchdown instead of a field goal attempt. The Play: Cam Newton dropped to pass, felt pressure, and rolled out of the pocket to buy time. Cam then threw against his body - on the run - to Devin Funchess for a first down. The play extended the drive which ended in a touchdown instead of a field goal attempt. Just incredible athleticism, strength, and smarts from an elite quarterback. 3rd Quarter 14:20 – Panthers 10, Falcons 17. Falcons ball 1st-and-10 at CAR 39The Situation: The Falcons took a seven point lead into the half then started the third quarter with the ball. Their first play was a 30-yard gain to the Carolina 39, then Wes Horton came up big on the next play. The Play: Matt Ryan dropped back to throw a bomb to a streaking Julio Jones, but Wes Horton appeared to contact Ryan’s arm on the release. Ryan’s pass looked more like a punt and Donte Jackson was able to come down with an easy interception.4th Quarter 2:30 – Panthers 17, Falcons 31. Panthers ball 1st-and-10 at CAR 49The Situation: The game looked just about over with Carolina trailing by two touchdowns and the two-minute warning drawing near, but then D.J. Moore happened. The Play: D.J. Moore ran a deep in route over the middle, caught the pass, shook off a tackler, then sprinted 51-yards for a momentum-shifting score. The play pulled the Panthers deficit to just seven points and gave the team one last shot at a late comeback. Three plays to hate2nd Quarter 7:25 – Panthers 10, Falcons 3. Falcons ball 3rd-and-9 at ATL 26The Situation: Call this the “Donte Jackson Implosion Sequence.” The Play: On 3rd-and-9 Daryl Williams Jersey , Matt Ryan’s pass fell incomplete to force an apparent punt, but Donte Jackson was called for (a questionable) pass interference to extend the drive. Two plays later Donte got juked at the line of scrimmage by Tevin Coleman who ran for 36 yards to the Carolina 24. The drive ended when Calvin Ridley beat Jackson in man coverage for a touchdown. Horrible sequence by the rookie cornerback. 3rd Quarter 13:01 – Panthers 10, Falcons 17. Panthers ball 3rd-and-2 at CAR 10The Situation: The Panthers offense took possession on the Carolina 2 following Donte Jackson’s interception. Three plays later they faced 3rd-and-2 from the 10, hoping to convert a first down and avoid punting from their own end zone. The Play: Devin Funchess ran past the first down sticks and Cam delivered a beautiful ball to his back shoulder, just past the defender. But instead of catching it, Funch let the ball bounce off his shoulder pad for an incompletion on a pass he absolutely must catch. This play led to a domino effect of: 1) Punting from the end zone, 2) The Falcons fair catching the punt at the Atlanta 42, and 3) Atlanta capitalizing on the good field position to eventually score a touchdown for a 24-10 lead. 4rd Quarter 6:26 – Panthers 17, Falcons 31. Panthers ball 1st-and-10 at ATL 22The Situation: The Panthers ripped off 53 yards on consecutive passes to Devin Funchess and Torrey Smith to get near the red zone, finally getting some momentum. Trailing by two touchdowns in the fourth, Carolina desperately needed a score. The Play: C.J. Anderson ran a short route, turned around, and was hit right in the hands with a perfect dump-off pass from Cam. But the ball went right through Anderson’s hands and off his shoulder pad where it then popped up into the air and was intercepted by Ricardo Allen. This play was an absolute killer on a drive where the Panthers were getting so close to a much-needed fourth quarter score. Bonus play to both love and hate4th Quarter 8:11 – Panthers 17, Falcons 24. Falcons ball 2nd-and-2 at CAR 5The Situation: Atlanta led by seven early in the fourth quarter. They sustained a long drive that put them just five yards away from a touchdown to go up by 14. Carolina’s D needed a huge play. The Play: Ito Smith took a handoff off right tackle and Kawann Short knocked the ball out of his hands, forcing a fumble. For one beautiful, glorious, hope-filled moment the ball bounced around on the turf waiting for someone to jump on it. This was perhaps Carolina’s last best shot to slow down a Falcon’s offense that had dominated them all day. When a fumble hits the ground it’s usually a 50-50 proposition if the offense or defense will recover. In the end, Atlanta’s Brandon Fusco fell on the ball and the Falcons scored a touchdown on the very next play to take a 31-17 lead. The game could have been totally different if the Panthers recover this fumble. I “loved” the play by KK Short but “hated” the fact the Panthers couldn’t come up with the fumble and prevent another Atlanta score. Closing it out and summing it upThis was a fairly predictable loss. Disappointing, yes Authentic Ian Thomas Jersey , but at the same time the sky isn’t falling quite yet. Jarius Wright continues to impress while Christian McCaffrey is quickly becoming the only consistently viable offensive weapon. The patchwork offensive line held up fairly well considering our starting left tackle Chris Clark was signed four days before the game. On defense, James Bradberry should be commended for the part he played in limiting Julio Jones to just five receptions (on nine targets) for 64 yards and zero touchdowns. There were many negatives in this game though. The normally dominant front four was shockingly bad, registering zero sacks on Matt Ryan (on 28 attempts) and rarely even pressuring the Falcons QB while also getting destroyed by Atlanta’s rushing attack. If the front four plays like this the rest of the season, Carolina has no shot at the playoffs. Every wide receiver minus Jarius Wright has been pretty bad so far. It seems Carolina’s receivers are almost never wide open and completions only happen when Cam throws a perfect pass. The 1-1 Panthers hope to right the ship against a suddenly frisky 2-0 Cincinnati Bengals team next week. Let’s hope the front four and the wide receivers show up this time. Plays to love season leaders1 - Cam Newton, Christian McCaffrey, D.J. Moore, Kawann Short, Mario Addison, Wes HortonPlays to hate season leaders1 - Amini Silatolu, C.J. Anderson, Christian McCaffrey, Devin Funchess, Donte Jackson, Mike Adams This week I spoke with Dave Choate over at the Falcoholic. He’s the guy for responsible for doling out reports on the misery of their long suffering fan base. We try not to make fun of him too much, for the record, because there isn’t much left to say after Tom Brady used their lunch money from Super Bowl LI to buy a curse on Julio Jones for the rest of his career. It is a sore subject.Cat Scratch Reader: Have you filed a missing persons report for Julio Jones’ red zone targets yet?CSR: What’s the biggest change in the Falcons from last year and why is it that Matt Ryan is channeling Eli Manning?CSR: Y’all lost Keanu Neal for the season. That sucks.CSR:Assume the Panthers have a one possession lead with less than four minutes left in the game. How confident are you in the Falcons’ ability to score when the Panthers inevitably give them multiple chances to do so?CSR:What is your prediction for this game? Here’s to hoping Dave there is underestimating Christian McCaffrey’s ability to replace Greg Olsen’s production in a way that stresses the Falcon’s injured positions. I do, however, share his belief that his game isn’t going to be pretty. What division games are?
Under the bright lights Youth Joe Flacco Jersey , the Baltimore Ravens will march into Heinz Field to face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football. Although records seldom matter in this rivalry, the typical defensive slugfest may have a different mood this time around. Pittsburgh has been one of the worst defensive teams in football through three weeks, while the Ravens boast one of the best defensive units in the league. The key matchup to watch in this game will be Ben Roethlisberger’s No. 4 ranked offense sans Le’Veon Bell against Baltimore’s No. 1 ranked defense.1. Can the Ravens contain Pittsburgh’s tight ends?Last season, Baltimore struggled to limit opposing tight ends. They allowed the 10th most yards to tight ends and the eight most touchdowns. One season later, it has been a much different story as they have only allowed 14 receptions for 136 yards and no touchdowns. Against the Bengals, neither Tyler Kroft nor Tyler Eifert had success against Baltimore as they combined for four receptions for 34 yards. In week four, the Ravens will have a difficult matchup as Jesse James and Vance McDonald are both savvy veterans, who can make an impact in the passing game. McDonald is coming off of a dominant showing against the Buccaneers, where he totaled 112 receiving yards and a touchdown. Can the combination of C.J. Mosley, Tony Jefferson, and Kenny Young limit this duo?2. Without Jimmy Smith, how much of a factor will Antonio Brown be?Antonio Brown has had his way with Baltimore’s defense when Jimmy Smith has been on the sidelines. In the last three regular-season games that Smith has missed, Brown has posted 32 receptions for 453 yards and two touchdowns, most notably his 213 yard game last year in week 14. Marlon Humphrey may be forced to shadow Brown as Brandon Carr struggles against speedier receivers, and the Ravens employed a similar strategy last week against the Broncos. Regardless of who matches up with Brown, can Baltimore prevent him from wreaking havoc?3. Against a weak pass defense, will Joe Flacco have success?Pittsburgh is having an uncharacteristic season defensively. Their secondary has been atrocious http://www.ravensauthorizedshops.com/authentic-maxx-williams-jersey , specifically their cornerbacks. Joe Flacco is coming off of a solid performance against the Broncos, where his deep-ball accuracy was quite impressive. Can he build off of that momentum? Artie Burns should be the cornerback Flacco targets early and often. With Mike Hilton and Morgan Burnett listed as doubtful, the horrible Pittsburgh secondary will be short-handed, but can Flacco take advantage?4. Can the much-maligned Baltimore running game establish themselves? The Ravens’ rushing attack has not started out the way many had hoped. They are ranked 26th in rushing yards, but ninth in attempts. This phase has been plagued by poor blocking, but against a suspect run defense, can they right the ship? Alex Collins had success against AFC North, particularly the Steelers last season. Can he regain his old form?5. How will the Ravens’ offensive line handle a potent pass rush?As horrendous as Pittsburgh’s defense has been — 29th overall, 26th pass defense, and 25th run defense — they are surprisingly tied for second in sacks with 11. Baltimore’s offensive line has been solid in pass protection, including a remarkable performance against Von Miller, but they showcased their flaws against the Bengals. Can his unit keep another talented pass rush at bay or will it be a replay of Thursday Night Football? While sensational rookie Kenny Young was involved in the most tackles, Terrell Suggs led the team in sacks and Patrick Onwuasor had the only interception in the Ravens win over the Broncos, fourth-year linebacker Za’Darius Smith proved pivotal in disrupting Denver’s quarterback Case Keenum.Drafted in the fourth round out of Kentucky, Smith has started in just nine of the 45 games he has played in during his tenure with Baltimore. Though he did not get the start against Denver, he made his presence known, leading the team with four quarterback hits Justin Tucker Jersey , doubling his total on the season. Keenum was hit five times in each of his first two games against the Seahawks and the Raiders, both victories. However, in Week 3, he was taken down nine times, with Smith accounting for over 44.44 percent of those hits.On Sunday, Keenum was sacked three times for a loss of 19 yards, whereas he was only sacked twice through the first two weeks of the season. Smith was responsible for one of those sacks, his second on the year. With Denver leading 14-10 with 1:32 left in the first quarter, Smith sacked Keenum for a seven yard loss on 3rd & 2, forcing a punt.In 2017, Smith recorded just 3.5 sacks over the course of 14 games. At his current pace, he is well positioned to exceed his career-high of 5.5 sacks from his rookie season in 2015.Smith will have a chance to build on his strong performance in prime time, when the Ravens travel to Pittsburgh for Sunday Night Football in Week 4. If he can get to Ben Roethlisberger and make an impact in one of the game’s most hard hitting rivalries, Smith may finally fully emerge out of the shadow of his teammates.
The Washington Redskins shredded the Arizona Cardinals for 182 yards on the ground in their season opener http://www.redskinscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-zach-brown-jersey , most of any team in the NFL last week.Missed gap assignments, missed tackles, insufficient physical play, poor hand work at the line of scrimmage. There were plenty of reasons listed for the downfall by defensive coordinator Al Holcomb. Now the Cardinals have to face Todd Gurley and the Rams Sunday in Los Angeles, and that doesn't bode well for an Arizona team looking to find itself in a new defensive scheme with a new coaching staff."It's a big-time challenge this week again," Holcomb said after Thursday's practice. "We've got to address the mistakes, take the things that we didn't do so well last week and correct those things. We've got to accentuate the positives, the good things that we did and we've got to continue to grow and build on that as a defense."Gurley carried 20 times for 108 yards and caught three for 39 yards, including a 19-yard touchdown reception in Sunday's 33-13 win at Oakland. And the Cardinals know Gurley all too well.Last season Arizona had the sixth-ranked defense overall in the NFL and was sixth against the run, yet Gurley was outstanding as the Rams swept the two-game series with the Cardinals for the first time since 2012."We got our behinds kicked twice by this team," cornerback Patrick Peterson said. The first meeting was in Twickenham Stadium in London, where the Rams routed the Cardinals 33-0. In that game, Gurley carried 22 times for 106 yards and caught four for 48. The Rams rushed for 197 yards that day. Six weeks later in Arizona, Los Angeles won 32-15 as Gurley rushed for 74 yards in 19 attempts and caught six for 84 yards.Combine those experiences with the team's poor play in last week's 24-6 loss to the Redskins and the Arizona defense is in an ornery mood."We're a little salty right now so we have to come out prepared to play," Holcomb said. "It's a tremendous challenge in front of us but a great opportunity at the same time. We have to come out and play our brand of football like we're capable of playing."First-year coach Steve Wilks wants to build a team centered on tough, physical play, especially up front. That aspect of the opener was what bothered Holcomb most."Just not play, as Steve talks about, according to our DNA, the physicality," Holcomb said. "The effort was there. The physicality, playing with our hands and then obviously minimizing the run game and also the tackling aspect of it. It's early in the season but we have to do a better job of tackling."The Cardinals know they have to avoid one-on-one situations with Gurley."Todd Gurley is a great back, one of the best backs in the league http://www.redskinscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-paul-richardson-jersey ," said nickel cornerback/safety Budda Baker. "So we know we're all going to have to swarm to the ball to get him down."Peterson, a Pro Bowl player in all seven of his NFL seasons has seen a lot of Gurley throughout his career, agrees."The biggest point of emphasis for us on defense to contain Todd is just be like flying missiles," Peterson said, "always hitting him and getting 11 hats on the ball."Of course they also have to contend with the potent passing game of Jared Goff and his group of talented wide receivers."We know with this team everything' starts with the run," Peterson said. ' 'You've got thee play-action boot game and they try to take the top off of the defense. We have to make sure we're gap sound this week and don't give up the deep ball.'It would be a great help to have defensive end Markus Golden, but he could be a week away from returning from major knee surgery. Golden practiced on a limited basis Wednesday and Thursday."It's definitely going to give us a boost," Holcomb said. "He brings a lot of energy, a lot of juice. He has the ability to hold up and set the edge and also rush the passer, so I can't wait to get him back."Golden led the Cardinals in sacks two seasons ago with 12 1-2. The other defense end, All-Pro Chandler Jones, led the NFL in sacks last year with a franchise-record 17 and had one in the season opener.NOTES: Johnson was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday with a sore back. TE Jermaine Gresham also was limited as he returns from surgery to repair an Achilles tendon. Gresham, like Golden, has yet to play this season.Looks Like Someone Has a Sixpack of the Mondays While the next month or so is designed to get football players ready for the rigors of the NFL’s regular season, Hogs Haven’s legion of armchair quarterbacks is already in midseason form. I thought I would steal a bunch of primer questions floating around that I have been asked to respond to for a variety of outlets. Let’s get our minds around some of these ideas and then we can expand our thoughts on tomorrow night’s episode of The Audible (on Hogs Haven’s Facebook Live feed starting around 9 PM EST).A popular question I am asked is, “Which rookie are you most excited to watch?” I think the easiest and quickest answer that comes to mind is Derrius Guice. This makes sense from the standpoint of expected production and sizzle, but it hasn’t been my answer. Defensive linemen don’t typically sell video games or season tickets, but I feel like Redskins fans have yet to truly wake up to the defensive line we will be watching this season (assuming a fully healthy Jonathan Allen, which we will need to wait to see). When Allen was healthy last year, the Redskins were a top five defense against the run. He was, quite simply, awesome. The Redskins just picked up his battery mate from the Alabama Crimson Tide front, and the nastiness that is about to ensue is going to look nothing like what we have grown accustomed to in recent memory. Da’Ron Payne is a beast http://www.redskinscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-d.j.-swearinger-jersey , and all accounts so far have indicated that he is a day one plug and play starter in the league. Payne and Allen in the heart of the defense is about to be a show. I will have my popcorn ready when Guice gets that first handoff against the Arizona Cardinals, but let’s not be caught off guard by how fun it is going to be to watch Payne go to work this fall.Next on the list of common questions is some version of, “Which returning player needs to improve the most for the Redskins this season?” Again, I feel like there is a kneejerk answer here, in the form of “Josh Doctson.” I get it. Josh needs to prove he is a first round talent, and that he can be a legit number one receiver in the league. I believe we have seen flashes of his ability, but he will need to get a lot more consistent to prove he can be “the guy.” Despite this, my answer has been Jordan Reed. As a player, he doesn’t need to prove much. When he has been on the field, he has performed at an incredibly high level. It is the “when he has been on the field” that has become a thing. Listen, people get hurt in the NFL. Further, physical specimens like Reed—thanks to their amazing athletic ability—regularly find themselves involved in increasingly violent plays on the field. I am not here lamenting that Reed can’t stay healthy because of anything in his power; rather, I am just stating a cold reality of the NFL: if and when a player is repeatedly injured, his unavailability becomes a problem that must be addressed. For Jordan Reed, despite how important he is to the Redskins, this is the last year he has any guaranteed money coming his way. He has two more years left on his contract, and should he perform in 2018, the Redskins would almost certainly be happy to keep him in the fold at about $8-$9 million per year. That said, if this player has another season when he is unable to be in pads on Sundays, the Redskins will be facing a pretty tough decision. This is a big deal to me. The Redskins are a different team depending on whether or not Reed is available. I want him on my squad. Despite the length of his contract, it is getting more and more apparent that Reed is going to have to show up in 2018 for him to stay on this roster.I get a constant barrage of, “Is Alex Smith better than Kirk Cousins?” In short, the answer is “YES.” When pressed http://www.redskinscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-adrian-peterson-jersey , I explain that experience becomes the difference-maker when comparing these two quarterbacks. One has more than the other. I think Kirk is a fine quarterback, but his mental calculator simply doesn’t have the same amount of historical data to call up and bring to bear in decisions being made in milliseconds. As you can imagine, this is never a quick conversation once it gets started, so I thought it best to leave the bulk of this particular point to the comments section below. What I have enjoyed most about this argument is watching Kirk-haters become instant Alex-haters, and Kirk-lovers become quick Alex-lovers. It has been quite fun in that regard...I think that is the right word for it.How about a fantasy question? I get a lot of those, and the one I have answered most consistently is the one about a “sleeper” or “under-the-radar” fantasy player. To me, I feel like a player that will likely outperform preseason predictions is Paul Richardson. I don’t see Jay Gruden only using this guy to take the top off the defense. I am not sure exactly how Richardson will be most used initially, but it stands to reason that Gruden will get him involved. Didn’t we just find out this guy was the most productive wide receiver in the NFL on end zone targets in 2017? (We did, thanks to my boy Brent over at Burgundy Blog, with a hat tip to Pro Football Focus.) However you viewed the Washington offense with Kirk Cousins at the helm, I am here to tell you that Alex Smith is going to make it feel pretty darned different. Richardson is not a one-trick pony. He can run routes—I think he is actually a very underrated route runner. If that is true (and please don’t take my word for it—check it out), Alex Smith is going to find him. In fact, in order for all these other aspects to work out for the Redskins—Guice, Reed, Jamison Crowder, Doctson, etc.—a guy like Paul Richardson is going to need to be productive. If he is your WR3 or WR4 in a deep 12-team league, I think you might end up looking pretty smart. The over/under in Vegas REMAINS 6.5 wins for the Washington Redskins. In some places, you can make $145 on the over with a $100 bet. What...am...I...missing?!?!?!?!? Hahahaha...sometimes I feel like Vegas is actively trolling me, because this one is causing me some serious brain failure. OF COURSE the Redskins are going to win at least SEVEN games...right? I mean, what the what?!?!?!
John Harbaugh has seen Joe Flacco play in more than 170 games for the Ravens http://www.baltimoreravensteamauthentic.com/justin-tucker-jersey , including 15 in the postseason with an MVP effort in the Super Bowl.Though Baltimore's coach is hard-pressed to remember them all, Harbaugh ranks Flacco's performance against Denver on Sunday among the best.Flacco went 25 for 40 for 277 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in Baltimore's 27-14 victory . He's put up better numobers during his 11-year career, but this outing stood out because of the fashion in which Flacco zipped the ball short, long and in between."He's had a lot of good throwing days, right? But definitely ... it's in the top category," Harbaugh said Monday. "That's what you'd like to see Joe do. I just think it's a combination of a lot of things, including confidence in the guys that he's throwing to."Harbaugh became Baltimore's head coach in 2008, the same year Flacco entered the NFL. The pair has gone through a lot together, most recently three straight seasons without a playoff appearance. The Ravens (2-1) hope an improved offense will turn things around. It's been a long time since Flacco has had so many capable receivers to choose from. Offseason acquisitions Willie Snead, Michael Crabtree and John Brown have been excellent, and Mark Andrews got into the mix Sunday with 59 yards receiving, a Ravens record for a rookie tight end."I'm really pleased with all those guys. They're playing really well and they've made big plays," Harbaugh said. With Flacco leading the way, the Ravens went 8 for 16 on third down against a team that stopped 17 of 22 attempts in its first two games."All the receivers have a good chemistry with Joe," Brown said. "It's all about trust, starting with practice and talking with him to see if we're seeing the same thing. That plays a big part of it."The Ravens have long been known for their defense, and that unit has played well. But, at least for now, the offense is doing its part, too. After Denver bolted to a 7-0 lead, Baltimore went the distance on a soothing touchdown drive."That was the tone setter for us as a team, to have them answer for us and really get us back to even," safety Eric Weddle said. "And, once we settled down, shoot, defense played lights out."As did the offense 鈥?again. The Ravens are averaging 32 points per game, and Flacco has completed 82 of 129 passes for 889 yards and six TDs with just two interceptions. Most impressive of all is Baltimore's performance in the red zone: 12 trips http://www.baltimoreravensteamauthentic.com/nick-boyle-jersey , 12 touchdowns, including 3 for 3 against Denver."We've had a good mix. I think we've probably thrown the ball in six times and run the ball in six times," Flacco said. "If you can do both of those things, especially when you get down tight inside the 5-yard line, that helps a lot. We've got good playmakers, and we put a lot of pressure on the defense with the guys that we have out there."Give credit to the receivers, along with the running back tandem of Alex Collins and Javorius Allen, but Harbaugh knows the real reason why Baltimore has been unstoppable inside the 20."It probably starts with Joe," Harbaugh said. "I think Joe has done a great job making plays, making throws, trusting his guys and also extending some plays. That's been big."The Ravens escaped the Denver game without any serious injuries, and Harbaugh hopes middle linebacker C.J. Mosley (knee) can return for an AFC North showdown Sunday night with the Pittsburgh Steelers. While Baltimore is known for their running game, which produced 117 yards and three touchdowns, and a stout defense, which held the Bills to just three points on the day, the passing offense stole the show from the outset of the game. Joe Flacco seemed to knock off the rust he showed last season against the Bills, going 25-for-34 and throwing for 236 yards and three touchdowns. Finishing with a 121.7 passer rating, Flacco showed signs of returning to his Super Bowl MVP-caliber play. Starting on their own 20 in the first quarter, Flacco threw consecutive strikes to Nick Boyle for a 25-yard and 11-yard gain. After an Alex Lewis holding call set Baltimore back to 2nd and 26, Flacco threw a 29-yard pass to John Brown to dig the Ravens offense out of a hole. After hitting Mark Andrews for another 11-yard first down, Boyle for another a four-yard pass and a Flacco run up the middle for three yards, the series finished with Alex Collins rushing in for the touchdown. With Flacco’s passing as a catalyst, Baltimore ultimately burned 6:18 off the clock on a successful opening drive to give them a 7-0 lead. He consistently progressed downfield and delivered solid passes to his receivers. He climbed the ladder in the pocket and showed more mobility. In addition, Brown’s ability to get open and catch the ball after the play gave Baltimore a new dynamic. Not to be lost in the fray was Boyle’s new and improved route-running ability. Known as a blocking tight end, he showed more quickness and agility in the passing game than in the past. The 25-year old finished with three catches for 40 yards (13.3 yards per reception), all of which came on the first drive.Flacco connected with all three of Baltimore’s free agent receivers for a score in Week 1, and he spoke highly of the new additions. “I feel really good http://www.baltimoreravensteamauthentic.com/maxx-williams-jersey ,” Flacco said of his new receivers. “John [Brown] is a different type of player - just with his speed and what he does to defenders and the relationship he gets with those guys. Crabtree [Michael] has a special way of running routes and getting in position and making big catches. Willie [Snead IV] is an easy guy to get on the same page with - from and early point - just because he does everything so much the right way. He’s been in a good passing offense and he just knows where to be. You have to give a lot of credit to those guys.”It began with Baltimore’s third offensive drive. With a first and goal, Flacco dropped in a pass to Maxx Williams for a one-yard gain, before throwing an incomplete pass to Brown over the middle. However, the quarterback-receiver duo made up for it on their next play, with Flacco hitting Brown over the middle for a seven-yard touchdown pass. “They were in zone and I came open in the back,” Brown said of his touchdown catch. “Joe Flacco made a pretty good throw in the back of the endzone.” Touting a 20-0 lead with just 2:48 remaining in the half, the offense started with the ball back at Baltimore’s 15. Flacco completed a six-yard pass to Crabtree for his first catch as a Raven and would hit him on the next play for a 20-yard gain to take Baltimore into the two-minute warning. Then with 0:17 seconds remaining, Flacco tossed his second touchdown pass to Crabtree, who tapped danced in the back left portion of the end zone. Though Baltimore failed the two-point conversion attempt, the passing offense was totally in-sync. “[Joe] Flacco threw it up, I came down with it,” Crabtree said postgame. “ Just making a play. It’s football. You’ve got to make a play. It’s something we practice on, getting those feet down, controlling the ball [and] staying in-bounds.”In the third quarter, Flacco hit Boyle for a three-yard touchdown pass, but it was nullified by a pass interference call on Snead IV, putting Baltimore back 10 yards. Snead IV immediately made up for his error, catching a pass and going across the middle for a 13-yard touchdown to put Baltimore up 33-0 with Tucker’s PAT. “Joe [Flacco] wasn’t making me feel too good about that one,” Snead IV said of taking away Boyle’s first career touchdown grab. “I was just trying to do my job and it was just kind of a ticky-tack call, but the next play - I will take advantage of it every time.”Despite being pulled early in the third quarter to give Jackson some reps, Flacco ended up connecting with eight different players. He hit three receivers (Brown, Crabtree and Snead IV), three tight ends (Boyle, Andrews and Williams) and two of his running backs (Allen and Collins). The key word of the day for Baltimore’s passing offense: clinical.
