Tackle Trent Williams wants out of Washington. Washington coach Jay Gruden remains optimistic that Williams eventually will show up.Gruden told reporters on Saturday that he is “still optimistic Dwayne Haskins Jersey , very optimistic” about Williams ending his holdout. It’s widely believed that the absence isn’t about money, but about the player’s unhappiness with the manner in which team medical personnel handled the tumor on his head. It’s also widely believed that Williams wants to be traded. Gruden don’t see it happening.“I would seriously doubt that,” Gruden said.Gruden doesn’t know what it would take to persuade Williams to return.“I do not have an understanding on what it would take to get him back here,” Gruden said. “If I did, he’d be back here.”Washington reportedly plans to wait Williams out, hopeful that a mountain of fines eventually will get him to cave. PFT has reported that Williams simply doesn’t care about the fines. LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Limited playing experience in high school and college makes Sam Darnold appreciate every game, even if it’s just the preseason. The third overall pick made his first exhibition start for the New York Jets on Thursday night and showed some of the growing pains of a rookie quarterback by throwing an interception , taking two sacks and having a couple of balls batted out of the air.Darnold was 8 of 11 for 62 yards in the first half before giving way to Teddy Bridgewater in a game the Jets lost to the Washington Redskins 15-13 on a last-second field goal.“Any game experience is huge,” said Darnold Wes Martin Jersey , who felt he played well but wasn’t as sharp as his 13 of 18 for 96 yards preseason debut. “I feel like I’m going to continue to grow and get better every single day, and that’s what I’m most excited about is to see how much I’m going to be able to grow and get better.”Darnold went in looking like the front-runner to win New York’s starting QB competition, and it’s still muddled after Bridgewater was 10 of 15 for 127 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Veteran Josh McCown didn’t play after starting the first preseason game because coach Todd Bowles already knows what he has in the 39-year-old.“It’s already been cloudy,” Bowles said. “It’ll be a tough choice.”Darnold showed flashes for the Jets (1-1), going 5 of 5 on his second drive but was sacked by Preston Smith to force a field goal on a night full of them. Bridgewater took some intentional risks to test the left knee he injured two years ago to the point Bowles joked he had a neighborhood he could send the former Vikings quarterback to if he wanted to get hit.“Some of those plays, I could’ve thrown the ball away or run out of bounds, but I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could take a hit and it was fun,” Bridgewater said.Redskins starter Alex Smith was 4 of 6 for 48 yards in one series, his only work so far in the preseason. Smith said he always wished he could play more but acknowledged “it’s a fine line.”Washington kicker Dustin Hopkins made all five of his field-goal attempts Dwayne Haskins Redskins Jersey , including a 40-yarder as time expired to win it for the Redskins (1-1).INJURIESJets: CB Jeremy Clark left with a hamstring injury. … LT Kelvin Beachum (foot), RG Brian Winters (abdominal), RB Isaiah Crowell (concussion) and DL Steve McLendon (leg) did not play.Redskins: RB Samaje Perine injured an ankle on his first carry, a 30-yard run , and did not return. Coach Jay Gruden said Perine twisted his ankle but expects him to be OK … RB Byron Marshall was evaluated for a lower-leg injury that Gruden said was fine after an MRI. … LT Trent Williams, RB Chris Thompson, WR Maurice Harris and Jamison Crowder, TE Jordan Reed, OT Ty Nsekhe and DL Matt Ioannidis and Phil Taylor were among those nursing or coming off injuries who didn’t dress.REDSKINS RB COMPETITIONAfter second-round pick Derrius Guice’s season ended because of a torn ACL , Rob Kelley was up first to show he deserves to be Washington’s starter. Kelley had seven carries for 17 yards https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-dwayne-haskins-jersey , Perine was impressive on his one run before being injured, Marshall had a kick-return fumble that was overturned on video review and Kapri Bibbs made six catches for 47 yards with only 6 yards on the ground.“It will be a tough deal for us to figure all that out, but we will,” Gruden said.UNDISCIPLINED JETSLinebacker Jordan Jenkins was flagged on the game’s opening drive for roughing the passer against Smith when he drove the QB into the ground. Darron Lee was penalized for a horse-collar tackle on Redskins punt returner Danny Johnson. who led with his helmet into Colt McCoy on a more egregious roughing-the-passer violation than what Jenkins had.NATIONAL ANTHEMAll players appeared to stand for the national anthem. Jets players locked arms along the visiting sideline with no one remaining in the locker room.NEXT UPJets: See what more Darnold can do in game action when they face the Giants on Aug. 24.Redskins: Are expected to give Smith more snaps Aug. 24 when they host the Denver Broncos.
NFL Power Rankings James Conner Jersey , Week 5: Steelers free fall out of the Top 10 of rankings The only consistent aspect of the Pittsburgh Steelers are their many inconsistencies. After an opening week tie with the Cleveland Browns, followed by a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, the Steelers had shown it all — amazing offense, head-scratching play calling and shoddy defense, among others.Needless to say, the Steelers experienced a precipitous drop in the weekly NFL Power Rankings because of their poor play which resulted in a 0-1-1 record heading into Week 3. However, a 30-27 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday Night Football had the Steelers on the rise. After their 26-14 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday Night Football, the Pittsburgh roller coaster is again on the decline. In reality, these rankings mean nothing https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/authentic-terrell-edmunds-jersey , but they’re great for conversation and debate. This week, the Steelers saw themselves claw their way back into the Top 10.With a Week 5 matchup with Atlanta Falcons looming, the Steelers will be looking for their first home win of the season and they need to put up a good performance if they aim to resurrect their rankings status.Check out the rankings, and let us know what you think in the comment section below!ESPN1. Despite having a few talented starters Womens Terrell Edmunds Jersey , the defense has been riddled by opposing quarterbacks. Even in the fourth quarter of their ”Sunday Night Football” matchup, when the Ravens were settling for field goals, Baltimore was marching right down the field with a mix of runs and intermediate throws. The Steeler defense couldn’t keep the Ravens off the field, while Pittsburgh’s offense couldn’t stay on it. All is not lost yet. Nonetheless, there is little question that the Le’Veon Bell situation has been a distraction. Is Pittsburgh headed to 8-8?”How mental speed counts significantly in NFL players’ overall value to their teams I’ve always loved basketball. Many a summer evening was spent on the patch of black-top my father bartered for with our neighbor Big John, shooting jump shots while WDVE blared from my parent’s clock radio stuck in the open window. But basketball never loved me. Not only was I finished growing vertically by the time I was 12 (not quite 5’7”) but I was slow, uncoordinated and couldn’t jump. When I finally tried out for my junior high team, though, I discovered that all those hours practicing alone did nothing for my ability to “see” the game. Setting picks Womens James Conner Jersey , going backdoor and passing were all jumbled together with the nine other guys on the court. I learned an important lesson — in the immortal words of Yogi Berra — ninety percent of the game is half-mental.As I studied the our preseason tilt with the Titans, I was reminded of that lesson. I watched James Conner channel his inner Le’Veon Bell, waiting patiently for his holes. I wondered, if James Conner ran a 4.2 40, would he be much better? Not if he ran real fast right into a non-hole. I watched Jaylen Samuels change directions and make people miss and wondered, if he bulked up to the size of the Bus, even if he kept his speed, would he be much better? Not if he couldn’t see open cut-back lanes. It struck me the most watching Terrell Edmunds’ pick return. Imagine playing a sport with the fastest, strongest athletes in the world. Your job is to make sure the fastest among those athletes don't catch the ball. And suddenly T. J. Watt Jersey White , the ball lands in your hands. That, of course, is a good thing, a great thing, a splash thing. But in that moment everything changes. Now the motion of the game is in the opposite direction. You were on defense; now you’re on offense. The guys you were trying to stay near, you’re now trying to avoid. Edmunds looked completely at ease at that moment of transition. He saw his lanes, followed his blockers and made the most of the open-field situation. That’s a mind processing football information at better than 4.2 speed. And that ability will prove invaluable in the coming season. Remember the struggles our defense went through last year — they weren’t “not strong enough” or “not fast enough” problems.— they were mental mistakes. The Steelers have a long history of lunch-pail players, guys without the flash or prodigious gifts who managed to make crucial contributions to a great team. Think Rocky Bleier, Merrill Hoge Terrell Edmunds Jersey White , Jerry Olsavsky and Randy Grossman. Think of AV. These are the kind of men whose bodies might be a step slow, but whose minds are a step ahead. And these are the kinds of guys I hope will make the final cut. I don’t envy the coaching staff and their difficult calling during the next week or so. But my hope is that they’ll weigh heavily the factors which the combine can’t reveal, what the Wonderlic can’t expose, what football-in-shorts can’t show you — the ability to think fast on the football field.
Seattle faces the Oakland Raiders in Wembley Stadium on Sunday for the NFL’s first London game of the season https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-derek-carr-jersey , and the Seahawks’ first regular-season appearance overseas.Pete Carroll will be looking to break a tie with Mike Holmgren (90) as the winningest coach in Seahawks franchise history, and Russell Wilson is 25-6 after a loss for Seattle (2-3) — for the best record for a quarterback since the merger. The Raiders (1-4) have struggled in Jon Gruden’s return to coaching, especially on defense since trading star pass rusher Khalil Mack just before the start of the season. Oakland’s defense is ranked 30th, has the fewest QB pressures (29), is tied for the fewest sacks (six) and the third-fewest takeaways (five). The biggest matchup of the day is the prime-time meeting involving Tom Brady and the New England Patriots (3-2) hosting the Kansas City Chiefs (5-0) and their young quarterback sensation Patrick Mahomes. Friday afternoon the Raiders left the facility in Alameda and headed for the airport. They boarded the first leg of a long journey that won’t have back in their own beds for ten days.Today they are waking up in Indianapolis ready to prepare for their game against the Colts on Sunday. That’s a 5-hour flight covering 1933 miles. No big deal, really. They just went to Minneapolis last week which is about the same. But unlike their trip to Minneapolis, they won’t be boarding a flight back home Sunday night. They will be leaving the country. That trip is nearly 4000 miles and about 8 hours flight time. Which is better than their trip straight from Oakland to London last year Derek Carr Jersey White , arriving the day before the game.In London the Raiders will set up camp and practice throughout the week, acclimating their bodies to the time change before facing the Chicago Bears as Tottenham Hotspur stadium next Sunday.“Well, obviously we are playing in Indianapolis this week and it’s an eight-hour flight I believe from Indianapolis to London,” Gruden said Friday. “Doesn’t make sense flying five hours back to California, then 14 hours to London. year didn’t work out on the scoreboard, and it didn’t give me any reason to not try something else. So, we are going to go over there and have a great time and prepare our hearts out to hopefully play a good game in London.”It’s 10am in California and 6pm in London right now Womens Bo Jackson Jersey , so there is a significant time difference to consider. Jet lag is real. After the game, they will board their flight home which will be 5357 miles and have them on the plane for close to 12 hours. For a combined total of 11,290 miles flown. There are seven NFL teams that don’t fly that many miles all season. That’s also 25 hours on planes, and ten days away from home. Good thing they have the bye week afterward. They’re going to need it.Follow @LeviDamien
Heading into their final two games of 2018 Bradley Chubb Jersey White , the Denver Broncos will need to win both to avoid their first back-to-back losing season since 1971. The first will come on the road against the Oakland Raiders on Monday Night Football and Christmas Eve in what will be the Raiders final game in the City of Oakland. The fans in Oakland are going to be the rowdiest they’ve ever been despite their team being a lackadaisical 3-11. “I guess the fans, and it’s been a good football team for a long time,” Head Coach Vance Joseph said on Thursday. “It’s a tough place to play. They have unique fans, I would say. It’s a true home-field advantage, and when they’re playing well and they’re rocking, it’s a hard place to play. It’s going to be that way on Monday night—we kind of anticipate that a little bit. We’re getting ready for battle.” With Chris Harris Jr. officially moved to injured reserve on Wednesday Womens Bradley Chubb Jersey , joining wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, the Broncos are looking to the future with a lot of young players getting some playing time to close out the season. That means we should see a different team than one we’ve seen most of the season, especially on defense where young players will getting more playing time than they’ve gotten all year long. That is, those who are healthy. Despite the loss of several stars, the Broncos are reasonably healthy beyond that with only a few players hoping to get well enough to play on Monday.Broncos injury reportPlayerPos.InjuryThursdayFridaySaturdayGame StatusPlayerPos.InjuryThursdayFridaySaturdayGame StatusRaiders injury reportPlayerPos.InjuryThursdayFridaySaturdayGame StatusPlayerPos.InjuryThursdayFridaySaturdayGame Status If there is one player that is in a make or break year of his career it would be defensive lineman DeMarcus Walker." It’s also the last chance some players have to getting a lead on a roster spot, especially for players who have struggled to start their careers. One such player would be defensive lineman DeMarcus Walker. His experience in the NFL has consisted of questionable coaching and having the young player learn new positions and play positions he’d never played before. In many ways, it hurt his development in the NFL. Under Vic Fangio, guys like Walker have a chance to turn the corner and it is clear in his interview with Ryan Edwards, Andrew Mason, and Steve Atwater on First and 10 at 10 that he intends to work towards doing just that. Early on in OTA’s https://www.broncoslockerroom.com/authentic-drew-lock-jersey , Fangio was asked about Walker and he had already noticed that the young player was working his tail off and while Fangio wasn’t sure where Walker would end up on the depth chart he was careful to note the positives in his development. “I’m not sure yet, but I do think that he’s working extremely hard,” Fangio said on May 21st. “I think he’s making progress and ultimately with D-Line and O-Line you have to have the pads on to see. I like where he’s at. I like where he’s at emotionally too. I think he’s in a good spot emotionally. He’s probably matured in the last couple of years and were going to see what he has or doesn’t have here come training camp.” on players for training camp. What is important to him in this phase of the offseason program is how hard each player works both on the field and in the film room. It seems like that will factor into his final 53-man roster decisions more heavily than it may have under the previous regime.
It’s the preseason https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-dwayne-haskins-jersey , which means it’s #UnofficialDepthChartSZN. Which means it’s time for coaches to spend time talking about how the media and fans are wasting time analyzing the contents of the unofficial depth charts.“I wouldn’t have made a depth chart right now; there’s no reason to, it’s silly,” Washington coach Jay Gruden recently said. “That’s for the media and for me to come up and answer these questions, but really that’s all it is. It’s words on a piece of paper, names on a piece of paper and an order that means nothing at this point.”But it’s still not meaningless. It’s a snapshot, even if premature, regarding the construction of the roster. So, yes, it has some meaning. Perhaps not much. But some. Here’s an idea for making depth charts truly meaningless, if that’s the message the coach wants to send: Draw the names for each position out of a hat. That would literally be meaningless. While the league, which mandates the release of the depth charts, may not like the approach, what’s the difference between insisting that the depth chart is meaningless and making it meaningless? So quit saying the depth charts are meaningless, coaches, and put your money where your meaningless is. It is the annual rite of passage in mid-August where Tim, Kevin and I argue about the importance of the preseason in the NFL. We all agree there is some importance Womens Dwayne Haskins Jersey , but there always seems to be a line separating where we come out on the meaning of each of these preseason contests. I won’tcompletely ruin which of us battles along which lines, but I do think we share at least a few common beliefs about what exactly is going on here...and the recent preseason matchup between the Cleveland Browns and the Washington Redskins can be helpful in underlining those common beliefs.First and foremost, Dwayne Haskins didn’t “throw two interceptions in his first pro game.” I read that a number of times since last Thursday and I think it’s one of the dumbest things I have read in the last week. To be clear, preseason games are glorified practices. The results of these glorified practices are meaningless for postseason consideration. The stats collected during these glorified practices are not included on anyone’s Hall of Fame plaque, or even the back of a football card. (If your preseason stats are on the back of your card, your career was likely very short-lived...to non-existent.) So far, Dwayne Haskins has never played in a pro game. His professional stat sheet is still spotless. He did NOT have an exceptional practice, and looked VERY much like a rookie. (What do you expect, it was his first pro game...no, wait, that is not what I’m trying to say.) Now that we have gotten cozy with the idea that these preseason contests are NOT pro games, let’s talk about:Game conditions. Let’s start splitting hairs, shall we? Given we all agree that nothing meaningful is on the line in terms of the outcomes of these games, just exactly how well do preseason games approximate “game conditions?” I’ll grant you: teams don’t get 60 minutes of legit NFL-caliber action out of their preseason games. You will see a veteran or two pull up from a monster hit on a fellow veteran on the other side of the ball, and you might even see a few more wrap-ups without the takedowns we will get in September, but hey, it ain’t the Pro Bowl, either. I think this is a decent first step in making my argument Dwayne Haskins Jersey White , which is that you can still collect good data about players by placing them in these preseason games. A preseason game is far more competitive and physical than the Pro Bowl. That doesn’t help me too much though, because the playoffs are also not on the line in that game. Here’s something you don’t see in a preseason game though: red jerseys on quarterbacks. That’s a major game condition. If you step onto the field for a preseason game, it could be your last time on the field for a long time. The coach isn’t in the backfield calling the plays, which puts the quarterback and the middle linebacker in a real game condition. When the ball snaps, the play won’t be whistled dead until the play is over, unlike in practice when contact alone can mean the end of a play. These are the kinds of game conditions that you want to practice to the best of your abilities. Haskins needs practice calling plays in the huddle—very few college quarterbacks actually call plays anymore—and our linebackers calling the plays for the defense need practice being heard on the field. Knees have to hit the ground, catches are back to being defined as—let’s not go here, and penalties change the next playcall from both sidelines. In these ways, preseason games do offer both coaches and players a taste of things to come in the regular season. Another kind of game condition:Situational conditions. In a two-minute drill on the August gridiron, the clock moves at the exact same pace as it will in the regular season. Decision-making by the coaches and the quarterback needs to be the same as what it will be in the regular season. Getting out-of-bounds stops the clock. Getting your offense to the line of scrimmage for a quick spike or for a hurry-up call works the same way. Players who do stupid things in August during a two-minute drill might not cost their team a real game, but it is one step on the journey to doing just that. After all, if and when a quarterback takes too much time in the two-minute drill during the season, you KNOW people are going to remember them tripping up in the preseason. I would even argue that giving players a chance NOT to commit a stupid penalty that bails out the other team, or to NOT jump offsides when the opposing quarterback is using a tempting cadence are both things that have more value in a preseason game than an ordinary practice. By the time we get to this part of the argument we are starting to say words like:“But who’s actually on the field?” I get it. At least in the Pro Bowl, pretty much everyone on the field is an actual player in the league. The preseason is chock full of players that will not be playing on Sundays this fall. If you look above to the things I have listed out—or at least to most of them—we are talking about things that have to do with a guy all on his own, regardless of who is lining up against him. Pre-snap decision-making, penalty avoidance, saving as much time on the clock as possible and calling plays on the field (quarterbacks and linebackers) are all skills that have to be perfected in some semblance of actual game conditions Dwayne Haskins Jersey , and are not entirely dependent on what other people do. That said, let’s talk about those guys not likely to make the league:Jobs are on the line. We can split hairs all day about what we should and shouldn’t care about—coaches are making roster decisions based on what they see on film in these preseason games. That is enough juice to make the squeeze pretty darn worthwhile. For every over-the-top prediction one might make about a fourth- or fifth-string running back, there are over-the-top predictions that are likely true about 5th and 6th and 7th round draft picks. I don’t think Jimmy Moreland is playing any unimportant downs right now. All it takes is one guy like Jimmy to change the flavor of a preseason game. His effort, for example, will make every second of tape more valuable for every other player on the field at the same time. Getting back to Dwayne Haskins though...a guy who “many” expect to make the team (haha). No matter what you saw last Thursday night, his pro career is not off to a rocky, turnover-filled start, because it hasn’t officially started yet. Injury-free football that gets the coaches solid tape to make evaluations is the best we can hope for in the preseason, and so far, the Redskins have done well in that regard. I am at the front of the line of people who want the preseason radically changed from what it is right now, based on both player safety as well as the ridiculous cost owners charge for preseason games. I will continue to be a proponent of the NFL conducting some level of meaningful competition ahead of the regular season. (If the Redskins were perennial winners, I might advocate for less risk to those trophy-hoisting players, soFrom a play-to-play standpoint, that is what we are getting, and that is what we need. Now we can just skip to arguing about why Tim and I care so much about how little Kevin cares about preseason.
Breaking down the Offensive Depth Chart: Week 1 Steelers vs. Browns Steelers Nation scanned the internet all day on Saturday waiting to hear which players made the team’s 53-man roster and which did not. Most of the players kept weren’t surprises James Conner Jersey White , but there were some. Veteran quarterback, Landry Jones losing his backup quarterback duties and his roster spot was the biggest shocker of the day. Fan favorite, Ola Adeniyi, also made the 53-man roster, only to be placed on injured reserve two days later. Nat Berhe, after being cut on Saturday, was rumored to be a player the Steelers wanted to bring back — and indeed he was re-signed to the roster. Let’s take a look at the offensive players who have made the Steelers’ roster, while a follow-up article will focus on defense and special teams. The positions and the players below are taken from Steelers.com but I added a couple that I thought were important and needed clarifying.I have 54 players listed here as Le’Veon Bell hasn’t reported yet, but I fully expect him to.QB 3/53Ben Roethlisberger: Coming off of four straight Pro Bowl appearances, Big Ben looks to move up the NFL record books during his 15th season. Does he miss any games or struggle on the road?Joshua Dobbs: Solid numbers against Carolina Panthers defenders who are now on the street looking for new careers. Landry Jones detractors got what they wanted — but will they still be happy if Dobbs is forced into game action?Mason Rudolph: A terrible preseason with a 54.5 completion percentage. Those numbers are weighted down by playing against Green Bay Packers players who made the 53-man roster.RB 7/53Le’Veon Bell: (At the time of writing the article Womens Jerome Bettis Jersey , he doesn’t count against the roster as he hasn’t signed his franchise tag.) Will fans bash Bell if he struggles against a top-10 run defense in Week 1, or will he come out of the gate charging and fans will just say, “Well, after all, it was against the Cleveland Browns.”?James Conner: Looked comfortable breaking arm tackles en route to 5.26 YPC in 19 attempts. His pass-catching fluidity caught Steeler fans off guard after his struggles in 2017.Jaylen Samuels: The Steelers went for youth and potential and ignored his 3.07 yards-per-carry average and 6.25 yards-per-reception average in preseason. Roethlisberger will do a lot of 3-step drops or use an empty backfield if Samuels is in the game.Stevan Ridley: Only a placeholder for when Bell reports. Offers zero special-teams value and will likely return to his sofa, where the Steelers found him camped out for the better part of two years.FB 8/53Roosevelt Nix: Nix, a fan favorite, garnered his first Pro Bowl selection in 2017. (How many candidates were there?) Will he be asked to lead block more in 2018?WR 11/53Antonio Brown: Brown has caught over 1,100 passes from Big Ben but will a lost preseason hurt their continuity? Not likely.Justin Hunter: Can the perennial camp warrior turn the corner and produce during the regular season? No, as he’ll be a game-day inactive Jerome Bettis Jersey , barring injury.Ryan Switzer: Steeler fans rejoice over the team’s new punt and kickoff returner. No more $17 million man not wanting to return punts and no more Fitz Toussaint.WR 14/53JuJu Smith-Schuster: Will he break 1,000 yards or will he be a victim of the dreaded sophomore slump? He’s too talented to dismiss him possibly being a part of a 1,000 yard duo.James Washington: Flashed body control and solid NFL hands that made him a second-round selection. A big question is why his college speed wasn’t prevalent during the preseason.Darrius Heyward-Bey: While some fans dislike DHB, he’s on the team strictly for his special-teams ability, an area where he’ rock solid.WR 3James Washington: With the Steelers running 3-wide-receiver sets more than any other, it was important to list the first wide receiver off the bench. Washington should be that player due to his talent level. Steelers fans will know for sure once the team announces game-day inactives on Sunday.LT 16/53Alejandro Villanueva: AV will never be confused with an elite left tackle, but he’s not being paid like one either. He’ll need help against a few of the elite pass-rushing specialists in 2018.Chukwuma Okorafor: The rook held his own in the preseason, surprising everyone. But that doesn’t mean fans want to see him manning Ben’s blindside on Sundays.LG 18/53Ramon Foster: Will he be healthy enough to play in Week 1 or be effective enough to keep his starting gig after a poor showing in 2017? This will be his last season as a Steeler.B. J. Finney: Versatile, as he can play all three interior spots. Fans question whether he’s talented enough to take Foster’s job from him this year or next. Right now, he’s not consistent enough.C 19/53Maurkice Pouncey: Pro Football Focus pounded him with a poor grade last year (54.6 grade) — will he be better in their eyes this year? Will he be better in your eyes this year?B. J. Finney: Read above.RG 21/53David DeCastro: The best all-around guard in the league. Hard to believe he’s just 28 and the Steelers have him locked up through 2021.Matt Feiler: Will be the second guard off of the bench as he’s settled into his more natural interior linemen position.RT 23/53Marcus Gilbert: Injuries and suspension plagued his 2017 season will have him hungry to rebound and return to his prior form.Zach Banner: Not a surprise that Pittsburgh kept nine linemen James Conner Jersey , but the surprise is the last man would be Banner rather than a free agent. Even at 6’8 and 360 pounds, he’ll be a weekly inactive as Coach Munchak works on his development (and eating habits).Swing tackleChukwuma Okorafor: The 2018 fourth-rounder will be the first player off the bench to give either tackle a breather or in case of injury.TE 26/53Vance McDonald: Which will he have more of: dropped passes, touchdowns, or games played?Jesse James: Besides his inability to block, he brings about the same skill set that Heath Miller would bring at age 38.Xavier Grimble: The lack of competition keeps him on the roster, for now. ...There it is Steelers fans, your 2018 Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive players. Fans know the initial depth chart and the chart at the end of the season will not be the same. Players will get hurt and released, while some may lose their starting spot due to performance. Other players are brought in to fill in or provide depth. Who is the most likely candidate to lose his starting spot? Who is the player most likely to lose his roster spot? The Steelers have used the franchise tag on running back Le'Veon Bell the last two seasons, but they aren’t expected to make it a hat trick this offseason. They could use the transition tag, however. Gerry Dulac of the reports that the team is still considering that course of action with the intent of trading Bell to another team. Adam Schefter of ESPN had a similar report recently https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/authentic-terrell-edmunds-jersey , although his left open the possibility of Bell returning to the Steelers. of the last two years and a trade may be difficult to put together as well. Bell would need to sign the tag in order to be traded and the team moving to acquire him would have to give up compensation rather than just signing him to an offer sheet for a multi-year deal. The Steelers would have the ability to match that offer, but it would likely be structured in a way that makes that unappealing and they wouldn’t get compensation if they opted not to match an offer.Schefter reports that the use of a transition tag would also spark a fight about the value of the tag. reported in November that, per the language in the CBA, a transition tag would cost $14.54 million, which is the same as the franchise tag for Bell last season, while Schefter reports the league will argue it should be around $9.5 million. The Steelers would have to account for that cap space as the process plays out, which adds to the reasons why this route might not wind up being one they actually take.

He saw just 11 snaps on defense in the first six games and was rumored to be on the trade block along with Amari Cooper. The Raiders found a taker in Dallas who gave up a first round pick for Cooper, but didn’t get an offer that had them part ways with Joseph. At the bye, the Raiders were 1-5 and began thinking long term. That involved seeing what Joseph could bring to the defense. It proved to be plenty as he was the best safety in the division over the second half of the season and Gruden is talking about him as a key piece to the future and the team has opted to pick up his fifth year option.Harris was also a surprise late in the season. His emergence was not expected coming into the offseason, but Gruden gushed about him and Harris went about proving his coach prophetic. His late season play is a small sample size, so we don’t yet know whether he is the team’s long term starting safety.Nelson and Gilchrist were short term patches who are likely to be allowed to move on. Leavitt and Mitchell are undrafted roster hopefuls.Condition: UnstableMike Mayock and Jon Gruden have both said safety is a primary focus this offseason. It suggests maybe they don’t see Harris as the long term answer. Joseph is a lock and Harris held his own late last season and should at least be given a shot to win the starting job. But with no depth otherwise Bo Jackson Jersey White , adding a safety or two is a necessity. No NFL player has ever generated 2,000 receiving yards in a single season. If Cowboys receiver Amari Cooper has his way, that will change in the NFL’s 100th season.Cooper tells #PFTPM in an interview that will be posted on Monday that his goal for his first full season in Dallas is 2,000 yards. His best season came in 2016, with 1,153 receiving yards. However, his 725 yards in nine games with Dallas last season after a trade from Oakland translates to 1,288 over the course of a full year. And that’s an impressive feat, given that he had to learn a new offense on the fly.f 180 yards and 217 yards last season. If he can do that more often https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-derek-carr-jersey , he can pile up a lot of yardage. He needs to average 125 per game to get to 2,000.Is that unrealistic? Sure. But an unrealistic goal sometimes pushes a player to achieve more than he ever would if the goal was more realistic. So if Cooper wants 2,000 yards but gets something like 1,500, that would still be a great year. For more from Cooper, subscribe to #PFTPM and get the full show as soon as it debuts.
Von Miller has been one of the best players in the NFL since the Broncos took him with the second overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft Womens Phillip Lindsay Jersey , but his new coach thinks his best football is ahead of him.New Broncos head coach Vic Fangio said today that he considers coaching pass rushers his specialty, and he believes Miller will get even better under his tutelage.鈥淚鈥檓 aware that he had a good season this year,” Fangio said. “That鈥檚 my position of expertise when I鈥檓 coaching a position; and those guys are going to get coached by their position coach, but they鈥檙e going to get a little extra from me John Elway Jersey White , too. This is noteworthy because starters usually do not play in the preseason finale and very likely means Janovich has made the team. offense this past offseason, but it appears he has a role(Which really shouldn’t be a surprise). Keep in mind, Janovich’s play on special teams is a big reason why he is making this team. Now with that said, Jano is a pretty damn good lead blocker. MHR’s Tim Lynch highlighted Janovich’s blocking prowess against Washington where he helped spring two touchdowns. As Shapiro states Courtland Sutton Jersey , the big question remaining in the backfield is how many running backs do the Broncos keep and who they keep? There was a report earlier today which stated that teams are already expressing interest in second-year running back De’Angelo Henderson who is on the roster bubble. Rookie Dave Williams is also on this bubble while fellow rookies Royce Freeman, Phillip Lindsay, and veteran Devontae Booker are locked into a roster spot. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out but we at least know that fullback Andy Janovich isn’t going anywhere in 2018.
The differences between Patrick Mahomes and Alex Smith are undeniable Dwayne Haskins Jersey , one of them an up-and-coming quarterback with a big arm and little experience, the other the consummate game manager whose ability to avoid mistakes has served him well over the years. There are also some similarities, though."Very businesslike," Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce said. "Alex liked to have a lot of fun in the locker room as well. That's why he's an All-Pro in terms of one of my favorite teammates I've ever had. I think Pat is very similar, where he understands football but likes to go out and have fun."Here's another similarity the Chiefs would like to see between their current quarterback and his predecessor: Smith finished his time in Kansas City having beaten the Chargers eight straight times. That's the opponent for the start of the Mahomes era on Sunday. The Chiefs traded Smith to Washington in the offseason after getting a glimpse of Mahomes in Week 17 last year, when he dazzled in his starting debut against Denver. The Chiefs' playoff positioning had been wrapped up and most of the starters got the day off, but Mahomes nevertheless put on a show against the Broncos' starting defense in a come-from-behind road win.Mahomes thinks that experience, combined with a year spent working side-by-side with Smith, will serve him well when he leads the Chiefs into their season opener."Having the preseason games helped," he said. "Being able to start off with those games and then having that Denver game last year and seeing where I need to be at with my emotions and at the same time play with a lot of passion is something that will help me going into this one."Did it feel any different walking into the practice facility this week as the No. 1 quarterback?"Not necessarily," Mahomes said. "I get to compete and play a sport that I love. I get to play with a lot of guys I have built great relationships with. So I am going to just go out there and have fun and hopefully win a football game."If that sounds like a starter wise beyond his years, well Wes Martin Jersey , that's because in many ways Mahomes has been groomed for this moment since his childhood. His father, Pat Mahomes, spent 11 years in the major leagues, and his boy spent quite a few of those years bouncing around the clubhouse. He understands the pressures and responsibilities of being a professional athlete."I haven't seen any nerves. I know he's excited to play. I think the whole team is," Chiefs coach Andy Reid said."Probably both teams are, to get out of camp and get this thing going. He is excited. I haven't seen anything that would tell you he's nervous. He's a pretty confident kid in his ability and I think he just wants to get going and play the game."Fans in Kansas City may be even more eager to see Mahomes on the field. They've waited an entire generation for the Chiefs to draft a quarterback in the first round, and see him develop into the clear starter. The last to do so was Todd Blackledge, who flamed out after he was selected in 1983 鈥?the same draft that produced John Elway, Jim Kelly and Dan Marino.Starters since then have ranged from Steve DeBerg and Dave Krieg to Joe Montana, who was on the downward side of his illustrious career. There was Steve Bono and Elvis Grbac, and Damon Huard and Tyler Thigpen, and a four-year stretch under Matt Cassel marked by mediocrity at best. When it comes to expectations for Mahomes Womens Bryce Love Jersey , the floor is mediocrity. The ceiling? A championship. The march toward that begins when the Chiefs visit the Chargers on Sunday."Probably walking off the field hopefully with a win would be the best moment I am looking forward to," Mahomes said. "Hopefully we can go out there and compete on every aspect, every side of the ball 鈥?offense, defense, special teams 鈥?and come out with the win."Notes: Safety Eric Berry (heel) did not practice Thursday, making it even more unlikely that he plays against the Chargers. Berry is still considered day to day, but he has been out since early in training camp. "We've kept great communication with him," Reid said. "We'll just see how it goes." Former White House press secretary Joe Lockhart spent some time as the NFL’s primary spokesman, and his tenure consisted of periodic conference calls during which questions would be asked and, in most cases, answers would be provided. (It was a very useful feature that, unfortunately https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-terry-mclaurin-jersey , ended when Lockhart left.)Lockhart drew the ire of owners like Jerry Jones by antagonizing President Donald Trump, during the national anthem controversy. Lockhart is now chiming in, with disparaging views regarding both Trump and one of the men who previously paid Lockhart’s salary.President’s comments about Washington owner Daniel Snyder. The President said he’ll attend a game, adding this assessment of one of the least popular figures in the sport.“[A]ctually the owner is — he’s really a good guy,” President Trump said. “He’s been a supporter and he’s done a very good job. You have a good team.”(“Good” is extremely relative. Since Snyder bought the team 20 years ago, Washington has five playoff appearances and two postseason wins. Washington also is tied with Detroit for the longest NFC Championship game drought, dating back to 1991.)Lockhart responded to the news with this: “Can’t think of two people who deserve each other more.”It’s stunning to see such candor and hostility from a former high-level NFL executive, and it sheds more light on why things simply didn’t work out for Lockhart in one of the most important and public-facing jobs in the league office.
The Steelers had an opportunity to go 6-4 and start realizing their playoff destiny Womens T. J. Watt Jersey , but nothing went right. The game was miserable to watch. I have had more enjoyable prostate exams. For some reason, I’ve been given the responsibility to rate the performance of the squad. It’s not easy, but I’ll give it a whirl. Despite my less than prestigious BTSC teaching certificate, I have to issue the necessary disclaimer. You know the story; of course, I’m not a football coach, or a teacher, but I play one in blogs and podcasts. All week, I had certain expectations of this contest, then the game happened and judgments abound.Grading games is an extremely difficult and somewhat thankless task. While the coaches’ grades, of course, are what counts the most JuJu Smith-Schuster Jersey White , the media and fans can’t help but evaluate as well. All letter grades are simply based on the eye test of somebody watching at home. In this case, it’s my moronic opinion. So let’s take a look at BTSC’s early perceptions:Offense: FMason Rudolph was way too stationary and the offensive line barely helped him out. He wasn’t getting too much time at all. When he did, he wasn’t that good. In fact he was terrible. Four interceptions. Speaking of the line, Conner didn’t have any holes to go through. Then he got hurt again. JuJu got hurt. Diontae Johnson got hurt. Nothing went right. PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster just wants to move on from last December’s physical primetime meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals. But the second-year wideout thrust himself into one of the fiercest rivalries in the NFL last season with a memorable block against Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict. Smith-Schuster was reminded of the hit prior to Sunday’s game at Cincinnati.“I didn’t want to talk about it,” Smith-Schuster said. “I knew you guys were going to want to talk about this and make something out of it, but I am just trying to get a “W” this weekend, that’s it.”Last December, Smith-Schuster delivered a punishing blindside block on Burfict, the Steeler agitator, who ended running back Le’Veon Bell’s season in 2015, and injured quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and receiver Antonio Brown in the same playoff game at Cincinnati later that year.Smith-Schuster got a 15-yard penalty for the block and another penalty for taunting when he stood over Burfict after the hit. He also was given a one-game suspension.Burfict served a four-game suspension to open the current season. He returned to the lineup last week without incident and helped the first-place Bengals beat Miami.Smith-Schuster said he’s not concerned about Burfict or the Bengals seeking revenge on Sunday.“I’m just worried about the game https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/authentic-juju-smith-schuster-jersey , playing focused and playing with my teammates,” Smith-Schuster said. “It’s the AFC North and the rivalry is very strong. It’s physical and it’s going to be a tough game.”Last December’s game featured a combined 20 penalties for 239 yards, including a team-record 173 yards by the Bengals. It was also the game where Steelers LB Ryan Shazier sustained a life-altering spinal injury following a tackle.“There were a lot of emotions on both sides of the ball, obviously with Shazier and what I did,” Smith-Schuster said. “But it’s just a physical game. That’s what you’re going to get out of it.”Brown sustained a concussion and was knocked from the game by safety George Iloka – no longer with the Bengals — following a touchdown reception. The score helped Pittsburgh overcome a 17-point deficit and win its sixth straight in the series on a last-second field goal.“They’re always trying to get the best of us, either physically, after the play or during plays,” Brown said. “That’s why they call it the jungle because you have to go in there and be ready to win.”Brown met with the media for the first time Friday since two lawsuits were filed against him stemming from an incident at a Florida apartment complex last spring.Ophir Sternberg is seeking damages against Brown, claiming objects thrown by Brown from the 14th floor of an apartment building in April came close to striking Sternberg’s father and 22-month-old son. A second lawsuit filed by the owner of the apartment building is seeking more than $15,000 in damages from Brown.“I can’t discuss pending litigation,” Brown said. “I just look forward to my day in court.”Brown told police that the incidents occurred after a gun and $80 T. J. Watt Jersey White ,000 were stolen from his apartment. Brown said in a statement a day earlier that the lawsuits contained “false claims” against him.“It comes from being successful, it comes from being in the spotlight, it comes from having fame,” Brown said on Friday. “If I was a nobody, (the media) wouldn’t be here speculating to begin with.”“I’m a professional and I know what I’m here for,” Brown said. “I’m trying to win football games. It’s Cincinnati week … it’s a big week for us. Being in this position comes with a lot of distractions and you have to be able to narrow your focus and that’s what I’m able to do.”NOTES: Steelers’ S Morgan Burnett (groin) will miss his fourth straight game, while WR Darrius Heyward-Bey (ankle) will miss his second straight. LB L.J. Fort (ankle) is doubtful. LB Vince Williams fully practiced this week after missing against Atlanta with a hamstring injury.

Since then they added Isaiah Crowell who has some 51 NFL starts under his belt and who averaged 4.8 yards per carry for the Jets last season. He may be able to be the starter in Oakland, but as Mike Mayock noted, Crowell is on a one-year “prove-it” deal, so he is not considered the long term answer at this time.Crowell should be a valuable addition, but even with his starting experience, he has never been considered a true every-down workhorse back. The team has Jalen Richard, but Jon Gruden likes him mostly as a receiver out of the backfield as opposed to part of a two-headed monster. The answer could be in this draft. These guys best fit the bill.David Montgomery, Iowa St – Round 2-3Height: 5-10, Weight: 222 There is no running back in this class who has a more impressive skillset top to bottom than David Montgomery. He has the size, speed, agility, instincts, pass blocking Derek Carr Jersey White , and yards after contact to be an every down NFL starting running back. Not to mention, he had some breathtaking jukes that made defenders look downright ridiculous. It wasn’t a now-and-then thing either. He forced an incredible 100 missed tackles according to Pro Football Focus; best in this draft. The big question mark here is if the Raiders would take him at 35 overall and if not if they would make trades to get another second round pick or back into the third round. He is expected to go in the lower second/upper third round range and if the Raiders could find a way to get him there, they would get probably the best all-around back in this draft.Miles Sanders, Penn State – Round 3Height: 5-10, Weight: 211I wouldn’t say there is a huge drop-off from Montgomery to the next tier where Sanders resides but it doesn’t take much. The Penn State Nittany Lion has decent size with outstanding speed (4.49 40) and agility (6.89 3-cone) to go with it. He has all the traits of a back capable of carrying the load for an NFL team, with no glaring weakness that would force him to head to the sideline in certain situations, whether it be short yardage or passing downs.Elijah Holyfield, Georgia – Round 3-4Height: 5-10, Weight: 217John Gruden has said many times that he values pass blocking great deal and that’s an area in which Holyfield excels. He doesn’t have great speed (4.78 40) and yet he averaged an impressive 6.4 yards per carry for the Bulldogs last season. Where he lacks is as a receiver, but the Raiders have Jalen Richard for that.Bryce Love, Stanford – Round 5Height: 5-8, Weight: 200Any team who can afford the patience to wait for Bryce Love to recover from his torn ACL could be gettin an outstanding talent in this draft. Love suffered the injury in his final game at Stanford, upending what figured to be his heading to the NFL as a highly regarded day two selection. Now the injury could cause him to be out anywhere from part of training camp to sitting out his entire rookie season. If he did return for camp, you’d have to assume he would require some time to return to the form he showed in college that had him average 6.8 yards per carry with 30 touchdowns.Devine Ozigbo, Nebraska – Round 5-6Height: 6-0 Womens Bo Jackson Jersey , Weight: 235He’s a load at 6-0, 235 pounds and yet can still move and gain separation. His senior season was a breakout one, averaging 7.0 yards per carry and putting up 12 touchdowns. He had just 26 more carries in 2018 than in 2017 and yet more than doubled his yards total and four times as many touchdowns. You always want to see the best numbers as the latest ones, though NFL teams typically want to see something that suggest steady progress to know it isn’t a fluke. He also struggles in pass protection, which could be an issue when it comes to being a 3-down back. With the potential he’s shown, he is absolutely worth a pick in the 5th or 6th round.Editor’s note: Yes, we realize the Raiders don’t currently have a selection in rounds 3 and 6. If a prospect is listed in that round it’s either with the assumption the them in the following round should they still be on the board.Follow @LeviDamien After splurging on a couple of offensive players since early Sunday morning, the Raiders apparently won’t be completing the trifecta.Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that the Raiders aren’t likely to pursue running back Le'Veon Bell. The decision, per Mortensen, has less to do with salary cap issues and more to do with cash. As in the Raiders lack the cash to make it happen. It seems odd, given that the didn’t lack the cash to commit nearly $68 million in fully guaranteed money to receiver Antonio Brown and tackle Trent Brown. But the question of whether owner Mark Davis enjoys the same liquidity as his colleagues has been a consistent issue for the Raiders in recent years. Whether that changes after they move to Las Vegas remains to be seen.Whatever the plan, if the Steelers want Bell they presumably won’t be waiting to execute it. As evidenced by the pursuit of Trent Brown, it began immediately at noon ET on Monday . . . if not earlier.
QBs swarming Redskins Park"Another day Dwayne Haskins Jersey White , another QB visiting the Redskins story. Washington will host most of the top QBs in this year's draft as they search for their QB of the future. Auburn's Jarrett Stidham is the latest QB scheduled for a pre-draft visit with the Redskins.Stidham is expected to get drafted in the 3rd round or later. If the Redskins miss on their guy in the first round, Stidham is an option with one of their 3rd round picks, or through a trade down. Stidham started for Auburn for the last two seasons. In those two years the Tigers were 10-4 and 8-5. Stidham had 2,794 yards Dwayne Haskins Jersey , 18 TDs, and 5 INTs last season, and 3,158 yards Wes Martin Jersey , 18 TDs, and 6 INTs the year before. The Redskins are bringing multiple QBs in for visits. He also mentions they will host all the top QBs except for Kyler Murray who is expected to go #1 overall ro the Cardinals. Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins had a horrid time trying to stop Buccaneers wideout Mike Evans in Week Three, but Week Four is off to a better start.Jenkins tipped a pass intended for Washington wide receiver Robert Davis and the ball caromed into the hands of linebacker Ryan Connelly. and they took advantage of the good field position to jump out to a 7-0 lead.It looked like they might have to settle for a field goal try after a holding penalty left them with a 3rd-and-17 Womens Bryce Love Jersey , but running back Wayne Gallman took a dump off pass from Daniel Jones and took it 15 yards to set up a short fourth down. The Giants went for it and Jones hit Shepard to keep the drive alive.Jones capped the drive by finding Gallman in the flat for a six-yard touchdown catch and Washington will have to play catch up if they are going to avoid an 0-4 start. The interception was quarterback Case Keenum‘s fourth since the start of Week Three.
This past Sunday saw the Raiders suffer defeat at the hands of the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers completely dismantled the Raiders under Jon Gruden and gave them their most lopsided defeat so far this season. The team lacked the fight they had brought to previous games this year which is odd considers the Chargers are division rivals. That being said both the offense and defense lacked intensity and urgency save for a few players.Raiders can’t keep Carr cleanThere are a few reasons the Raiders looked like they had no fight in them.First the offensive line experienced some serious shake-up with both Penn and Osemele out injured.Replacing them on the line was Jon Feliciano and Brandon Parker.Parker a rookie in his first start looked like a rookie in his first start and didn’t play as well as he did last week. Also worth noting is Kolton Miller’s sprained MCL that Gruden disclosed after the game.Check out this vicious spin move from Ingram.Try blocking that with a torn MCL.Miller wasn’t mentally or physically prepared to block this rush from the stalwart defensive end. The protection struggled all day.As a result Carr played the way he usually does when under duress and looked indecisive trying to negotiate an unfamiliar pocket.Don’t forget this defensive line is missing their best pass rusher.Yes Melvin Ingram had a great day and made plays against the Raider’s beleaguered blockers. Joey Bosa however is widely considered a super star talent. If Gruden can’t get the rookie experiment at tackle to yield quick results Bo Jackson Jersey , hope on offense will fade away.Converting on 3rd Down3rd Down conversions have been a sore spot for this offense last 2 weeks. Sunday was the worst day so far.Offensive drive after drive went 3 and out and Carr looked out of rhythm. On this play, Carr gets through his progressions on the right side of the field. As his protection breaks down Carr shows excellent footwork to climb the pocket and before finally escaping altogether. But for all his fancy feet, Carr throws up a duck to his receiver. Roberts has no chance of making an adjustment on this ball having to work back through the defender.Throwing the ball low and inside is a cardinal sin for a deep pass and he’s lucky this one wasn’t picked off.Back in 2016 Carr was almost automatic on the fade ball. Downing ran it into the ground in 2017.And now in 2018 its as if Carr lost his Mojo. The protection isn’t a problem this play and Carr gets the ball out in rhythm. But the pass is too far out of bounds for Cook to haul in for an official catch.Carr’s deep ball placement has always been an area of concern. So far this year has been his worst year and the QB is leading the NFL in interceptions as a result.Defending screensRaiders defensive coach Paul Guenther admitted 55 Marquel Lee shouldn’t have blitzed this play.Lee likely should have “read out” of the blitz and covered the back releasing on a route. This adjustment that Lee is required to make in a split second is one area he can improve as he takes more snaps in the middle. This leaves Leon Hall against 3 blockers, a sure way to punish a defense.Reggie Nelson gets a lot of flack from the media. As Paul Guenther noted in previous press conferences, there are 11 guys out there to blame when a touchdown happens. But on this particular play, its all on Nelson. In this coverage, Nelson is lined up outside shoulder of the tight end.At the snap Nelson sees the San Diego TE Virgil Green show a high hat and pass protect.Nelson bails out to help elsewhere not realizing it was a TE screen all along.Nelson is out of position and unable to force Green back inside, giving him an easy stroll down the sideline for a score.Raiders fans have little hope left after the team’s poor showing in LA.This week the Raiders take on the Seahawks in London. This matchup will be a big test for Gruden to prove that his staff is as advertised and his team can beat a team not named the Browns With the 40th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Raiders selected Clemson CB Trayvon Mullen. Finally at pick 40, Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock kicked off their second day selecting Clemson CB Trayvon Mullen . How does the staff at Silver & Black Pride view the pick? Tyler GreenMike Mayock attended the National Championship game between Clemson and Alabama and so far https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-antonio-brown-jersey , three of his four picks played in that game, with Mullen being selected the defensive MVP. He has great size at 6’1”, and also runs a 4.4 40-yard dash so he fits nicely into the bigger mold of cornerbacks that defensive coordinator Paul Guenther prizes. Mullen doesn’t have many holes in his game, and he wasn’t targeted often at Clemson because his receiver was usually covered. This pick is a great value considering the Raiders were able to trade back twice and pick up high fourth and fifth round picksGrade: A BD WilliamsMullen is a cerebral player who like the other draft picks so far shows great physicality both in press coverage and as a tackler. He made his share of outstanding plays in the college football playoff both in coverage and as a blitzer. He has great length and athleticism for the position. There are a couple technique issues on tape he’ll need to work on to become a full time starter opposite Conley but his play on the ball and awareness are very god. That being said, there are a lot of really good players still left on the board. Mullen could have a hard time living up to his draft stock when it’s all said and done.Grade: B-Marcus KrauseThe performance that Trayvon Mullen put in for the Clemson makes me extremely excited for this pick. Not everyone is in love with what Mullen brings to the field because of never really meeting the full potential of his athletic abilities, but there is a ton to work with for the Raiders. The guy is an absolute beast of an athlete who is plenty tall enough at 6’1 with great leaping ability. He is a guy that could turn out to be a steal if they can bring the best out of him, but that also means the dreaded word of “potential”. Either way, I like the pick as a need filler and high ceiling player.Grade: BLevi DamienWow, that National Championship game had a pretty big impact on the Raiders brass. Three of their first four picks played in that game, two from the National Champion Clemson Tigers. I’m not crazy about this pick. Primarily because I don’t see cornerback as a major need. I don’t hate it, because Mullen has a lot of strong qualities including having great size (6-1) and allowing a career passer rating of just 51.1. Though he also didn’t have an interception last season, he had a huge one in the National Championship game to earn Defensive MVP. Helping matters as well was they traded down twice from 35 to 38 and then to 40, picking up a 4th round pick (109) and swapping 5th round picks 140 for 158.Grade: B+
ALAMEDA Bo Jackson Jersey White , Calif. (AP) — Derek Carr missed Jalen Richard on a third-down pass in the second quarter and immediately heard all about it from coach Jon Gruden as he walked to the Oakland Raiders sideline.Carr was caught on television yelling right back at his coach in an exchange that repeated itself again in the fourth quarter and prompted many outsiders to point to it as a symbol of how bad things have gotten in this lost season for the Raiders. To Carr and Gruden, it’s just a regular occurrence between two passionate people that just happened to be caught on camera during a 23-21 win for Oakland (2-8) over Arizona on Sunday.“I don’t have a ‘no yelling’ sign on the sideline,” Gruden said Monday. “Things happen. We get excited down there. I get excited when we get a first down. Get excited when you work on something all week and it doesn’t work out. I get excited when he makes big plays, too. That’s just part of football. I think cameras can catch things sometimes that maybe make things look a little bit peculiar, but that happens.”The first run-in between Carr and Gruden happened late in the second quarter when the Raiders went three-and-out after the missed throw down the sideline to Richard. Tight end Lee Smith ended up trying to play peacemaker, grabbing Gruden at one point in what he later acknowledged was a mistake.Carr was surprised the whole situation became such a big deal.“It’s not the first time him and I have been that way. We’re both very fiery,” Carr said Sunday. “A lot of people don’t see that in me, right? All the time. We’re both very fiery, we’re both very competitive. Minor disagreement on something and the beautiful thing is that when we do that, it’s never like a demeaning thing, or pointing a finger. It’s just, we’re both yelling the same kind of thing almost. It’s us both saying let’s fix it kind of deal. Again, it’s not the first time, I doubt it’ll be the last time, but everything’s good, I promise.”There was only more frustration later in the quarter when Carr called back-to-back timeouts, leading to a delay of game penalty that helped thwart a drive. The bickering continued in the fourth quarter after a third-down pass to Seth Roberts came a yard short of a first down, leading to another punt.Gruden said he can be outwardly supportive or critical depending on the situation.“I’m a big cheerleader sometimes,” he said. “I’m very positive a lot of the time. Every once in a while, I think you have to make your points in some different ways. Sometimes raising your voice. I look ridiculous to some people, but I want urgency. I want to have some urgency to get things right. It doesn’t mean I’m always right, either. Derek pointed that out to me yesterday. So be it.”The Cardinals then took the lead on the ensuing drive and the Raiders failed to generate a first down on two straight possessions, leading to rare punts in the final four minutes by a trailing team. But thanks to some poor penalties by Arizona and botched clock management, the Raiders got one last chance and made it pay off by driving 63 yards in the final 1:53 thanks to a 32-yard pass to rookie Marcell Ateman and a 20-yarder to Roberts that set up Daniel Carlson’s game-winning 35-yard kick.NOTES: The Raiders placed WR Brandon LaFell (Achilles) on IR and signed WR Keon Hatcher off Green Bay’s practice squad. Hatcher had three TD catches for Oakland in the preseason finale. … WR Saeed Blacknall was released Monday. … WR Jordy Nelson could return to practice this week after missing a game with a knee injury. … RB Doug Martin should be OK this week after missing the second half with an ankle injury. The first quarter of the NFL season is in the books, so it’s time to check on how the Raiders stack up against their AFC West competition. The order remains the same, but some of the grades have changed. The first set of grades from after Week 2 can be found here.Kansas City Chiefs: 4-0Grade: AGood teams just know how to pull out wins, regardless of how well they’re playing. After coming out completely flat against Detroit, Kansas City pulled off a comeback win. It helps when you almost never turn the ball over, as the Chiefs have only turned the ball over once this season. The scary thing is, Tyreek Hill may be back in the fold sooner than expected. He practiced for the first time since a Week 1 shoulder injury on Wednesday morning, and while his timetable remains in flux, he should be on the field sooner than later. Key Stat: 3That’s the number of NFL MVPs to repeat in back-to-back seasons. Patrick Mahomes is the clear favorite to win this season after four weeks, and would join legends Joe Montana, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning if he’s able to do so.The Chiefs’ offensive DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average) ranks No. 1 in the NFL at 34.6 percent above average, and they may only improve that mark once Hill and Damien Williams return.Second Quarter Slate: Vs. Colts, Vs. Texans, At Broncos, Vs. PackersWith a relatively easy second quarter slate ahead, the Chiefs should be 7-0 heading into a fascinating matchup against the Packers in Week 8.Indianapolis and Houston will likely both put up a fight, but neither mercurial squad poses a serious threat against the Chiefs at Arrowhead. Over the last 10 seasons, the Chiefs have allowed 28.8 points at home and 18.1 on the road, the best mark in the NFL. They likely have their eyes set on the No. 1 seed in the AFC already, and they’ll need it to contend with New England.Oakland Raiders: 2-2Grade: B-It’s hard to know what to make of this Raiders team after the season’s first quarter. They were absolutely thrashed by Minnesota, but managed to turn things around against a wounded Colts team. As of right now, the Raiders are in the thick of the early season playoff race, with only New England, Kansas City and Buffalo above .500 in the AFC.Oakland ranks at No. 9 in rushing defense DVOA, but a lowly No. 27 in passing defense, as Lamarcus Joyner and Gareon Conley have disappointed thus far. On a higher note, the Raiders sit No. 9 in successful play rate on offense, per Sharp Football. Now https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-derek-carr-jersey , imagine if they had some legitimate receiving threats outside of Tyrell Williams and Darren Waller. Key Stat: 47.4Sitting at No. 88 out of 102 qualifying edge rushers on Pro Football Focus’ grading scale is none other than No. 4 overall pick Clelin Ferrell. Yikes. His best overall grade of the season was a 60.0 in Week 3, due to his ability to stuff the run. Many Silver and Black fans thought Ferrell was a reach, but felt that his ability to be a locker room leader would justify selecting him over Jacksonville’s Josh Allen. But you can’t change the locker room culture if you don’t play well. Ferrell is currently in concussion protocol and may not be available for Sunday against the Bears in London.Second Quarter Slate: Vs. Bears, BYE, At Packers, At TexansThe Raiders received no favors from the NFL scheduling committee, as they left the Coliseum after Week 2 against the Chiefs and won’t come back until Nov. 3 when they host the Lions. This treacherous slate may make or break the Raiders’ entire season, and it will start with a matchup against a Bears squad that may be missing their quarterback. Although, it doesn’t seem like the Raiders see a major difference between Chase Daniel and Mitch Trubisky. After a Week 6 BYE, the Raiders will head to Lambeau before flying to Houston. If they manage to go 2-1 over this next stretch, or even 1-2, they can remain in the playoff picture by the halfway point.Los Angeles Chargers: 2-2Grade: C+The Chargers have been fully underwhelming overall. Yet, if a few breaks go their way, this team could be sitting at 4-0 right now. The injury bug continues to swarm around the Chargers, as Melvin Ingram pulled up lame with a hamstring injury last week. However, the addition of the second best Melvin on their team (returning from one of the least successful holdouts I can recall) should bolster the offense. Despite the hype that Austin Ekeler has received in fantasy this year, he’s only averaged 3.8 yards per carry.Key Stat: 10.8With Tyrell Williams gone and Mike Williams fighting lingering back issues, the Chargers have relied on Keenan Allen more than ever. And he sure is producing. His average depth of target is 10.8, his highest mark since Sports Info Solutions began tracking data in 2015. Ditto for his 32.9 percent target share.Allen is on pace to catch 136 passes for 1,808 yards and 12 scores, astronomical numbers that hammer home the fact that the Raiders either need Conley to step up, or to find a corner in the draft who can match up with Allen. It seems like he’s dominated in the division forever, but he’s only 27 years old and will be around a lot longer.Second Quarter Slate: Vs. Broncos, Vs. Steelers, At Titans, At BearsAfter easily defeating in Miami in a game that maybe 15 people actually watched, the Chargers could get rolling with a pair of home games against lesser opponents on deck. The Steelers found their footing against Cincinnati, but it doesn’t seem like Mason Rudolph can push the ball downfield consistently. It’s hard to get a read on San Diego, errr, I mean LA, thus far this season. They could go 1-3 over this next stretch or 4-0, neither would be surprising.Denver Broncos: 0-4Grade: D-Since the sack became an official NFL statistic in 1982, no team had ever gone three straight games to open the season without a sack or turnover. The Broncos popped their sack cherry against Jacksonville with five on the day on Sunday, but they still remain without a turnover. Vic Fangio was supposed to bring his defensive wizardy to Denver, but the team has looked lost since opening at the Coliseum. With Bradley Chubb out for the year with a torn ACL, the team has little hope left on the season. Average Joe Flacco isn’t leading them out of this 0-4 hole. The only thing standing in the way of the Broncos and a straight “F” grade is the fight they put up against the Bears and Jags.Key Stat: 4.8 percentPer Football Outsiders, the Broncos have a 4.8 percent chance to obtain the first overall pick this year. That Super Bowl win is starting to feel very distant.are the Cardinals (5.1 percent), Redskins (7.3 percent), Bengals (14.6 percent), and Dolphins (a whopping 63.3 percent). It sounds to me like John Elway is going to get another chance to draft a tall, statuesque quarterback at the top if Justin Herbert is available. It’s hard to envision Flacco lasting in Denver past this season if the team indeed grabs a top 5 pick.Second Quarter Slate: At Chargers, Vs. Titans, Vs. Chiefs, At ColtsThe second quarter schedule doesn’t look promising for the Broncos. A home bout against the Titans looks winnable, but it surely won’t help their turnover margins, as Marcus Mariota is somehow the only starting quarterback without a turnover thus far this season.Realistically, the Broncos could go 2-2 over this stretch, with wins over each of the AFC South foes. But even if they manage to notch a few wins, they’d still be sitting at a lowly 2-6 mark. If Denver is 1-7 or 0-8 at the trade deadline, would they consider dealing Von Miller?
ENGLEWOOD Royce Freeman Jersey White , Colo. (AP) — Former Bears cornerback Bryce Callahan agreed to a three-year, $21 million deal with the Broncos, reuniting with Denver coach Vic Fangio, who was his defensive coordinator in Chicago.Callahan is the second unrestricted free agent defensive back Denver has signed in free agency, joining former Houston Texans hard-hitter Kareem Jackson in the “No Fly Zone” Version 2.0.Callahan joined the Bears as a college free agent out of Rice University in 2015 and has 122 tackles, four sacks, four interceptions, 20 pass breakups and a forced fumble in four NFL seasons. He started 10 games and appeared in three more with the Bears last season when he posted a career-best 45 tackles to go with two sacks, two interceptions and six pass breakups. He allowed just one touchdown. The Broncos also re-signed tight end Jeff Heuerman Courtland Sutton Jersey White , one of their own unrestricted free agents, to a two-year, $9 million contract Friday. Over the next few days Joe Flacco Jersey , Denver drafted Courtland Sutton, Royce Freeman, DaeSean Hamilton, and signed Philip Lindsay as a CFA bringing in an overdue infusion of youth to the offense. This year, the Broncos continued the offensive rebuild by first bringing in new offensive coordinator, Rich Scangarello, who will be implementing a new system in the mold of his mentor Kyle Shanahan. The draft haul of Noah Fant, Dalton Risner, and Drew Lock from a few weeks ago combined with free agent additions of Joe Flacco and Ja’Wuan James now has Denver likely fielding at least seven new starters on offense from the pre-draft 2018 roster Bradley Chubb Jersey White , with four of them being added this year along with a brand new system.Heading into rookie mini-camp, Denver’s offense now looks like:QB1 - Joe Flacco (acquired ‘19)QB2 - Drew Lock (acquired ‘19)RB - Phillip Lindsay (acquired ‘18)RB - Royce Freeman (acquired ‘18)WR - Emmanuel SandersWR - Courtland Sutton (acquired ‘18)WR - DaeSean Hamilton (acquired ‘18)TE - Noah Fant (acquired ‘19)TE - Jeff HeuermanLT - Garett BollesLG - Dalton Risner (acquired ‘19)C - Connor McGovernRG - Ronald LearyRT - Ja’Wuan James (acquired ‘19)That’s nine significant players on offense who have been acquired in a little over the last calendar year. around Denver’s new offense, don’t be surprised if it takes a little bit for everyone to gel with that much newness on that side of the ball. The other, and more important, takeaway is we could look back in a few years at the 2018 and 2019 drafts as the turning point for Denver as a franchise, as they have completely overhauled their perennially underperforming offense. I’m excited to see these guys get to work and begin shaping the new-look offense. Pay attention Broncos Country, you’re watching the future unfold before our eyes.
Trent Williams skipped Washington’s mandatory minicamp Montez Sweat Jersey , asking the team to trade him or release him. Washington coach Jay Gruden still has hope Williams returns, though.“I sure hope so,” Gruden said Wednesday when JP Finlay of NBCSportsWashington.com asked if he believes Williams wants to come back.A report surfaced earlier Wednesday that the Washington left tackle is upset with how the team handled his recent medical situation. Gruden confirmed that Williams is unhappy with the timing of a diagnosis on the scalp issue that caused the seven-time Pro Bowler to have surgery this winter.“I just know he’s absent,” Gruden said. “The medical stuff is out of my hands. The contractual stuff is out of my hands.”Williams has two years remaining on his current contract and is set to make $11 million in base salary this season. His yearly average of $13.2 million ranks him sixth in the NFL among left tackles. WASHINGTON (AP) — The possibility of bringing in Colin Kaepernick for a tryout was “discussed” by the quarterback-needy Washington Redskins, according to coach Jay Gruden, who said Tuesday the team made a “strictly football” decision to look elsewhere.“Isn’t it obvious what the real reason is?” Kaepernick’s lawyer, Mark Geragos Dwayne Haskins Redskins Jersey , wrote in an email to The Associated Press.Kaepernick, who led the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance, hasn’t played since the 2016 season, when he began kneeling during the national anthem as a way to protest police brutality and social and racial injustice. He filed a grievance against the NFL last year, saying team owners colluded to keep him off rosters.Gruden told reporters during a conference call that there would have been “a greater possibility” of considering Kaepernick for a roster spot if the Redskins were in need of a QB in Week 1 rather than at this stage of the season.“Not a lot of time to really get a brand new quarterback and new system installed and taught in a couple of days of practice,” Gruden said. “So he’s been talked about and discussed, but we’ll probably go a different direction.”Added Gruden: “You want to have somebody with a similar skillset to the quarterback you have. Not that Colin can’t do some of the things that I’m talking about https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-dwayne-haskins-jersey , but somebody with a little bit of familiarity.”Washington quarterback Colt McCoy had surgery Tuesday after fracturing his right fibula in a 28-13 loss at the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. McCoy had replaced Alex Smith as the starting quarterback after Smith broke his right leg in a game last month and was ruled out for the season.Gruden said McCoy would not go on injured reserve immediately because there is a slight chance he might be able to return to action by Week 17.Now the Redskins will turn to Mark Sanchez, who starts at QB next Sunday for the Redskins (6-6) against the visiting New York Giants (4-8).Against the Eagles, the 32-year-old Sanchez compiled a passer rating of 53.7, going 13 for 21 for only 100 yards with one interception and one fumble that he managed to recover.“For me to go in and play was in an emergency situation and those things happen. Now it goes from contingency plan to game plan,” Sanchez said. “Listen, I’ve seen just about everything in this league except for, I don’t know Womens Dwayne Haskins Jersey , a Super Bowl game.”He hasn’t started a regular-season NFL game since going 0-2 in the 2015 season.Sanchez’s career passer rating is 73.7, and he has more interceptions (87) than TD passes (86) since entering the league as a first-round draft pick of the New York Jets. in a couple of unemployed quarterbacks for workouts later Tuesday and then would decide among them and those street free agents that tried out last month when Sanchez was signed. That group included Kellen Clemens, T.J. Yates, EJ Manuel and Josh Johnson.Notes: Already missing two starting guards, the Redskins lost two more against Philadelphia. Jonathan Cooper tore a biceps tendon and needs season-ending surgery; Tony Bergstrom will miss at least two games with a high ankle sprain. … LB Ryan Anderson will likely miss at least a week with a strained hamstring.
The Pittsburgh Steelers entered Week 8 coming off a bye week Jerome Bettis Jersey , and sporting a 3-2-1 record. Their opponent Sunday at Heinz Field? These two AFC North rivals meet for the second, and likely last, time this season, and everyone is thinking about the Week 1 game where the Steelers turned the football over numerous times, and resulted in an ugly tie. Heading into this contest, these two teams were certainly headed in different directions. Pittsburgh had won back-to-back games over the Atlanta Falcons and Cincinnati Bengals, but the Browns were losers of their last two against the Los Angeles Chargers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. However, with both teams searching for another win, it was Mayfield and the Browns’ offense who would start with the football to get the game underway. Mayfield moved the Cleveland offense down the field with ease, but on 3rd and 3 in the red-zone Pittsburgh was able to stop the Cleveland offense and force a field goal attempt. The kick was good, giving the Browns an early 3-0 lead.On Pittsburgh’s second offensive possession James Conner Jersey , on third down Ben Roethlisberger attempted to hit JuJu Smith-Schuster for a first down, but the ball was deflected off Smith-Schuster’s hands and intercepted by the Browns. Nick Chubb then took over and moved the ball quickly into Pittsburgh territory with two big gains on the ground. Nonetheless, the Browns’ drive stalled and turned into another field goal attempt by Greg Joseph. The 45-yard kick was good, giving the Browns a 6-0 lead with 2:34 left in the opening quarter. After the first quarter, the Steelers had yet to even get a first down on offense, and the Browns had the ball heading into the second quarter. The Falcons were struggling again, and quarterback Matt Ryan was looking for something to spark the team.Ryan got just what he wanted from his teammate, linebacker Deion Jones."That was awesome to get us going," Ryan said. "I felt like the energy that really got everybody into it, and from that point forward we played really well."Julio Jones made an acrobatic touchdown catch on a pass from Ryan, Deion Jones returned an interception for an early score https://www.thesteelerslockerroom.com/authentic-terrell-edmunds-jersey , and Atlanta snapped a five-game losing streak with a 40-14 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.Playing their final home game of the season, the Falcons (5-9) forced three turnovers and sacked Arizona quarterbacks seven times, a single-game season high for both teams. Arizona (3-11) has dropped two straight and five of six under first-year coach Steve Wilks."I want to start out by saying I take full responsibility for what you saw out there tonight," Wilks said. "It was unacceptable, not even close."Julio Jones caught six passes for 82 yards, all in the first half. His 22-yard score in the closing seconds before intermission put the Falcons up 26-7. Jones beat Patrick Peterson's bump-and-run coverage down the left sideline, turning the cornerback around and twisting around him to make a diving catch.Ryan ran for a 1-yard score early the second quarter and finished with 231 yards passing in his 100th career victory. Matt Bryant added two short field goals, and Tevin Coleman had a 43-yard TD run in the third quarter as Atlanta won for the first time since Week 9 at Washington.Grady Jarrett had two sacks for Atlanta, and Arizona's run defenses allowed 215 yards to the NFL's worst rushing attack.Playing behind a makeshift offense line that has lost six players to injured reserve, Arizona's Josh Rosen was under duress all afternoon and finished with a 38.4 passer rating. The rookie quarterback got the Cardinals off to a fast start with running back David Johnson catching two long passes to set up a short TD run that made it 7-0, but Arizona was essentially done after Deion Jones scored a touchdown for the third time in eight career interceptions. In his fourth game back after spending most of the season sidelined by a foot injury Womens Terrell Edmunds Jersey , Jones forced a 7-all tie in the first quarter, snagging Vic Beasley's batted ball from the air in the flats and running 41 yards for Atlanta's second defensive TD of the season.QUESTIONS IN THE DESERTIt feels like a couple of months have passed since Arizona enjoyed a season highlight under Wilks, a 20-17 win at Green Bay two weeks ago.The Cardinals were flat last week at home against Detroit and gave themselves almost no chance at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Even with so many injuries, the performance was so uninspiring that Wilks might be wondering if he will return for a second season.Arizona showed why it began the day with the league's worst scoring offense, worst passing attack and second-worst ground game."Obviously on the road, you can't spot people points and turn the football over like we did today," star receiver Larry Fitzgerald said. "It was just an avalanche after the start."KEY INJURIESJulio Jones injured his ribs on the TD catch and only played a few snaps in the third with the outcome all but assured. Jones missed practice one day this week with flu-like symptoms.Cardinals cornerback David Amerson and left tackle Joe Barksdale each left with concussion symptoms and didn't return. Amerson collided with Falcons receiver Mohamed Sanu in the first. It wasn't clear when Barksdale was hurt.Injured Atlanta running back Devonta Freeman likely won't return this season, but he was on the sideline cheering on his teammates. Tight end Austin Hooper did not catch a pass and was only targeted once as he played through a sore knee he hurt last week at Green Bay.Johnson, playing with a sore quadriceps, ran 11 times for 33 yards and caught three passes for 68.EYES ON THE PRIZEThe Falcons had a respite from season-long difficulty in creating takeaways. Brian Poole had an interception and combined with Jarrett on a strip-sack fumble recovery. Bruce Irvin had his best game with Atlanta, finishing with 1陆 sacks and three QB hits."It was good to come out and have a good showing on defense today T. J. Watt Jersey White , get a couple turnovers, a couple forced fumbles," Jarrett said. "Deion Jones got a touchdown. So it was good to come out and make some stuff happen on D."ALL DOUBT ERASEDBeginning the game with a less than 1 percent chance of making the playoffs, the Falcons were mathematically eliminated."You make your bed throughout the year, and today was a good day for us as a team, but obviously not playing in the postseason is disappointing," Ryan said. "But we'll enjoy the win today and try to win these next two."UP NEXTCardinals: Host the Los Angeles Rams next Sunday.Falcons: Visit Carolina next Sunday.
Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said in March that the team planned to exercise its option on safety Karl Joseph‘s contract for 2020 https://www.raiderslockerroom.com/authentic-derek-carr-jersey , but the Raiders reversed course over the last couple of months and opted not to go through with it.Gruden downplayed the significance of that decision on Friday by noting that the team can still sign Joseph to a new contract before he leaves for another team.“That’s a big story for some people. But that does not mean that we don’t want Karl with us this year and in the future,” Gruden said, via Matt Kawahara of the .The Raiders signed Lamarcus Joyner as a free agent this offseason and drafted Johnathan Abram in the first round last week in a pair of moves that likely colored their decision on Joseph’s contract. That will likely color their decision on bringing Joseph back for another season as well, although he can do his part to state his case for a longer stay over the coming months. The move to cut Michael Crabtree this offseason and sign Jordy Nelson to replace him drew some criticism this offseason. Mostly because Crabtree was 30-years-old and was Derek Carr’s most reliable target for the past three seasons, while Nelson was 33 and seen has having lost a step (or two).Nothing we saw over the first 12 weeks of this season silenced that criticism. Nelson had 25 catches for 353 yards and 3 touchdowns while Crabtree had 45 catches for 500 yards and 3 touchdowns. Then everything seemed to turn around for Nelson.Over the last four games he has 29 catches which surpassed his catches total for the entire season before and his 308 yards nearly matched his receiving yards total as well. The team has pulled out two big wins during that span and Nelson’s contributions had a big part of that.“He’s as good a player as you’ll ever get a chance to coach,” Gruden said of Nelson. “He’s so instinctive Derek Carr Jersey White , so smart, so team oriented. He’s got close to 30 catches in the last four games, he’s healthy, he’s learned our offense, he’s learned how to play anywhere on the line. Third down, any down Antonio Brown Raiders Jersey , he’s still a really good, quality wide receiver.”This puts Nelson’s season total at 54 catches for 661 yards and 3 TD’s. Compared to Crabtree who has 52 catches for 587 yards and 3 TD’s. For the sake of accuracy, it may be better to compare Nelson’s numbers to Crabtree’s numbers last season with Derek Carr when he had 58 catches for 618 yards and 8 touchdowns. That would mean Nelson has already surpassed Crabtree’s receiving numbers in the same number of games (14). that slowed him down and caused him to miss a game. It was prior to that injury that Carr thought he and Nelson were coming along.“It was really that Colts game when I felt we were ready to get it going and he ended up hitting his knee or whatever and he was out,” Carr said of Nelson. “But when he got healthy Womens Bo Jackson Jersey , ever since then, he’s a trustworthy guy that does things the right way and usually guys like that, the ball ends up finding them.”Nelson’s numbers over the last four games average out to 116 catches for 1232 yards over a full 16-game season. That’s more than Michael Crabtree had in his best season in Oakland (1003). Though Nelson has not found the end zone nearly as much as the 8 per season Crabtree did. This just serves to show that Nelson has played himself into seeing him as at least a lateral move to Crabtree and perhaps a slight upgrade in other areas such as locker room presence. The Raiders are just happy he is finding his footing on the team lately as it suggests he can continue to be an asset in the second year of his contract.Follow @LeviDamien
Of all the NFL seasonal awards Womens Bryce Love Jersey , the one shaping up as the closest and most intriguing is for Comeback Player of the Year.who have won league MVP honors, plus three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt and Colts quarterback Andrew Luck as front-runners?Quite a few big names are back in action after curtailed 2017 seasons, among them Carson Wentz, Odell Beckham Jr., David Johnson and Deshaun Watson. Unless they have spectacular second halves of the schedule, though, the attention belongs on that impressive quartet of Rodgers, Peterson, Watt and Luck. All four have had a significant impact, perhaps most notably Peterson, the previous non-quarterback to win the league’s MVP award (in 2012) and the only non-QB to take it since LaDainian Tomlinson in 2006. Remember, Peterson https://www.theredskinslockerroom.com/authentic-terry-mclaurin-jersey , 33, was available to everyone as a free agent before the Redskins reached out.He has paid them back by ranking fifth in rushing with 587 yards, has four touchdowns, and is surrounded on the stats sheet by guys who weren’t even in high school when Peterson broke in for Minnesota in 2007.“I think he’s embodied kind of a little bit of what we want to be about not only as an offense but as a team,” says Redskins quarterback Alex Smith. “I just think the way he’s played on that edge — physical, relentless. I think that’s what we want to be about, not only as an offense, but a football team playing with that kind of an edge all the time. That kind of physicality certainly helped set the tone for us quite a few times this year.”Washington leads the NFC East at 5-2 even though its passing game ranks 26th. Credit a strong defense and the work of “All Day.”That moniker would certainly fit Watt, too. No one puts in more effort on the field — and Watt has put in the same level of diligence recovering from not one but two major injuries. He played a total of eight games in 2016-17.His return to the Texans started slowly, as did Houston with three straight defeats. Then Watt began dominating, and the Texans (5-3) began winning. They now lead the AFC South, and Watt is tied for the conference lead with eight sacks while stopping the run as well as any edge rusher around.“I’m still not where I want to be yet,” Watt says; that’s a scary thought for opponents. “I still have plenty of growth and plenty of things to work on. But I didn’t make it to Game 8 in either of the last two seasons so I’m happy with that …“Like I’ve always said the whole time Montez Sweat Jersey , I don’t blame anybody who didn’t know if I was going to be the same again because there were times I didn’t know. So, I can’t sit here and get too mad at people who thought I might be washed up or thought I might be done. Because I was sitting in that same boat when I was sitting at home with a cast on my leg and not being able to walk, and thinking: ‘Man, will I be the same again?'”Certainly, Luck could have asked that same question after missing 2017 with a shoulder problem. It’s never truly been clear if the injury was misdiagnosed or mistreated, or that Indy simply was fooled by the length of time its starting quarterback would need to recover. But recover he has, and even with a paucity of skill position talent around him, Luck is looking very good. He has thrown for 23 touchdowns, second only to Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes, who has tremendous talent at wideout and running back to work with. Luck is moving well and, most significantly, his arm strength is excellent. Then there’s Rodgers, who might have grabbed last year’s comeback award had he returned from his collarbone problems and revived Green Bay’s season Dwayne Haskins Jersey , getting the Packers into the playoffs. But it didn’t play out that way last December, and he finished the season on injured reserve. So he definitely qualifies in this category, and he has also battled a knee issue most of the season. Yet Rodgers has been at his MVP form even as the rest of the Packers struggle.“He’s still the best or is tied for the best on the planet,” 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan says. “He always has been. He’s the man. I know he’s not 100 percent, everyone knows that, but he seems to be a little bit better each week. He’s still the best.”But is he the guy the AP’s 50 voters will support for Comeback Player of the Year in such a loaded field?Tune in Feb. 2 when the award winners are announced. One of the few bright spots for Washington during their 0-3 start to the season has been the play of rookie wide receiver Terry McLaurin, but he may not be part of the effort to end the losing streak against the Giants this Sunday. The third-round pick popped up on Thursday’s injury report as a limited participant due to a hamstring injury. Mid-week additions to the injury report often lead to absences on Sunday and things appear to be moving in that direction in Washington.According to multiple reporters, McLaurin is not participating in the open portion of Friday’s practice. The team will hand out injury designations later in the day, but both the trajectory and the nature of hamstring injuries suggest he’s heading for the inactive list.McLaurin has 16 catches for 257 yards and three touchdowns over his first three NFL games.Center Chase Roullier, right guard Brandon Scherff and tight end Jordan Reed are also out of practice for Washington. None of them have practiced at all this week, so the offense may be awfully shorthanded against the Giants.
