The Saints will bring a 10-game winning streak into Dallas on Thursday night and one might think that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones would prefer a less imposing opponent as the race for the NFC East title plays out. That wasn’t the approach Jones took on Tuesday Cameron Jordan Jersey , however. Jones called it “real exciting” to have a chance to face a team of that stature at this point in the season and said that beating the streaking Saints would “really lift our team” heading into the final quarter of the season. It’s hard to argue with that, but beating the Saints has proven to be quite a difficult task this season. Jones shared one thing he believes the Cowboys must do if they are going to end the NFL’s longest current winning streak.“Each play, we’ve got to think it’s the Super Bowl play,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan Authentic Vonn Bell Jersey , via the . “If every player on every play in this game says, ‘When we put that tape on Monday, it’s going to look like one of my best plays of the year,’ it’s really going to take that kind of focus to beat a team like this.”Jones probably isn’t wrong about the level of focus required to beat the Saints Youth Thomas Morstead Jersey , but the Saints haven’t been lacking in that department this season so it will be just one part of a very difficult puzzle to solve on Thursday night. Sean Payton is known for his screen plays and getting the ball in his play-makers’ hands. Over the years we have become used to seeing players like Reggie Bush http://www.authenticsneworleanssaints.com/cheap-tyeler-davison-jersey , Pierre Thomas, and more recently Alvin Kamara gain huge chunks of yards on these screens. But sometimes, the best person to catch a screen is the one that is least expected.Josh Hill has caught 3 screens this year for a total of 43 yards. Screens, inherently have a layer of deception to them, but the Saints add wrinkles that add to this level of deception.Hill’s first reception of the year came week 1 against Tampa Bay. The Saints line up in 12 personnel (one running back, two tight ends), with Mike Gillislee in the backfield and Watson and Hill as the tight ends. On his play, the Saints will use play action to freeze the linebackers. Right Guard Larry Warford (#67) will “pull” as if they are running a power run play. To further sell the play action, Hill will block the defensive end momentarily before releasing into the flat. Max Unger and Ryan Ramzyck will lead block on the screen and Hill is able to break a tackle and pick up 15 yards.Hill’s second screen came in week 2 against the Cleveland Browns. This time, the Saints will roll out their 11 personnel (one running back, one tight end). Much like the previous play, this one will feature play action as well, but this time Ted Ginn will run a jet sweep motion from right to left behind the line of scrimmage. The purpose of this motion is to make the defense flow to the opposite side of where the play will happen. One defender who is in man coverage will follow GInn, but the linebackers and safety for Cleveland do a good job at staying disciplined. The offensive line is the same as above, with Warford pulling and Unger and Ramzyck lead blocking for Hill Color Rush Sheldon Rankins Jersey , who is only able to gain 5 yards on this play. The third tight end screen for Hill has the most window dressing and is possibly my favorite play design so far of this season. The Saints have their three most dangerous offensive weapons on the field—Mark Ingram in the backfield, Kamara will lineup as a receiver to the outside of a bunch formation to the right, and Michael Thomas split out to the left. This play is not much different than the one called against Cleveland, but having Kamara run the jet motion rather than Ginn presents an even bigger threat to the defense, so naturally they are more likely to flow in his direction. This flow is only aided by having Ingram in the backfield rather than Gillislee. Another subtle detail is that Thomas is split out wider here than in the previous play. This will stretch the defense further out and take players even further away from the playside. By the time Hill peels off of his block and makes the reception, he has nearly 15 yards of open space and ultimately picks up 23 yards. Another thing to note on this play is the nice block from rookie Tre’Quan Smith on the safety. Smith has been a reliable blocker in the run game so far this year and will only help him to stay on the field.Screens are a good way to make over-aggressive defenses pay for that aggressiveness. They are also a good way at slowing down the pass rush from the opposing defense, and with the Saints facing one of the best defensive line in the NFL this weekend, we may see a few more of these tight end screens dialed up. While Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan stressed that New Orleans doesn't fear going on the road in the playoffs, he readily acknowledged the advantages of staying in the Superdome.New Orleans (12-2) can lock up the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs with a victory over visiting Pittsburgh (8-5-1) on Sunday."That would be huge," said Jordan, referencing what he calls "dome-field advantage."The Saints did fine on the road this season, going 7-1. They won't finish any better in the Superdome, where they are 5-1 with two regular-season home games left. But New Orleans' offense generally has been better at home, where Drew Brees' pre-snap instructions 鈥?and center Max Unger's line calls 鈥?are easier for teammates to hear. The Saints have averaged about 38 points at home, but their road scoring average dipped about nine points below that after three straight road games in which they were held to 28 or less in each game and to 12 or fewer points twice."It's been almost a month since we've been at the dome Youth Mark Ingram II Jersey , so it'll be nice to be back in there," Brees said. "Obviously we've got a lot going for us right now 鈥?a lot at stake."In reality, the Saints don't have that much riding on Sunday's game 鈥?certainly not as much as the Steelers, who could still win the AFC North but haven't clinched a playoff berth yet. New Orleans already has won a second straight NFC South crown and will finish as a top seed even if it splits its next two games. But from the standpoint of offensive production, playoff history and promoting optimal health, the Saints know they'd be best served by beating Pittsburgh. In franchise history, the Saints are 1-7 in playoff games away from the Superdome. Since coach Sean Payton and Brees arrived in 2006, the Saints have not lost any of their five home playoff games. The one season they won the Super Bowl, they were the NFC's No. 1 seed.In fact, no Super Bowl participant has won a single road playoff game since the 2012 Baltimore Ravens won at Denver and New England en route to their title-winning tilt with San Francisco in New Orleans.Meanwhile, key Saints players could get as much as two weeks rest 鈥?the regular-season finale and the playoff bye 鈥?if New Orleans wins this week."Rest is much needed to get our bodies right," Saints cornerback Marshon Lattimore said. "Take a week, or two (off) if we clinch it this week. Hopefully rest the starters for the last game."The Steelers can't worry about rest 鈥?not even after improving their postseason outlook with a victory over New England last week."We just want to get into the playoffs," quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said. "It doesn't matter how you get in, we just want to get in. Obviously Youth Alvin Kamara Jersey , the first and second seed you would like, but I don't think we can get that now. So, let's just find a way to get in."Some other prominent story lines surround the Steelers' visit to the Superdome:BOWING UPDespite a significant slowdown offensively during their past three games, the Saints went 2-1 during that stretch because of strong defensive play.New Orleans, which struggled defensively early this season, has not allowed any of its past six opponents to score more than 17 points and has held two teams to less than 10."The offense was really getting us through the games at the beginning of the season and the roles flipped," Lattimore said. "Nobody pointed fingers. We just got the job done. That's the biggest thing, just playing as a team."JAYSAM'S JOURNEYSteelers rookie running back Jaylen Samuels will start his third straight game in place of injured Pro Bowler James Conner, who is hobbled by a sprained left ankle.Samuels, a fifth-round pick, lit up New England for 172 total yards. Not bad for a player who was asked to work out as a tight end at the NFL combine. The going could get considerably tougher against New Orleans, which leads the league in rush defense (79.1 yards per game).RESPECTBrees is the third high-profile quarterback the Steelers have faced in four weeks, joining New England's Tom Brady and Philip Rivers of the Los Angeles Chargers. Roethlisberger, who only knows Brees casually from run-ins at the Pro Bowl, isn't sure Brees has gotten enough credit for his record-setting career."He's incredibly athletic ... and a tireless worker http://www.authenticsneworleanssaints.com/cheap-ken-crawley-jersey ," Roethlisberger said. "Not really known for a huge arm, but can pretty much make any throw. I have a lot of respect for that guy."JORDAN'S JUDGMENTJordan, the Saints' sacks leader, sounded incredulous when a media member referred to Roethlisberger as a "future Hall-of-Fame quarterback" during an interview in New Orleans' locker room.Grimacing and turning his head sharply, Jordan said: "It that true? Really? In this era? You'd put him at like a top three of this era? Top five of this era?"Jordan listed Brees, New England's Tom Brady, Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers, the Los Angeles Chargers' Philip Rivers, the retired Peyton Manning and the Giants' Eli Manning as QB's he'd place above Roethlisberger. This season, Roethlisberger's 4,462 yards rank second behind only Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes in the NFL.Jordan, a first-time All Pro last season, has 12 sacks to go with 17 tackles for losses, a forced fumble and fumble recovery.AP Sports Writer Will Graves in Pittsburgh contributed. www.nflshopoutlet.com/jacksonville-jaguars

DAL Wk. 12 #8.) Hunter Henry - 5 catches, 76 receiving yards, 1 touchdown Jerry Jones is a proud alumni of the University of Arkansas. So much so that he helped the Razorbacks put together an alternate jersey that easily resembled a red version of the Cowboy’s uniforms for their match-up against Texas A&M this past season which happened to take place at AT&T Stadium. This fact probably didn’t sit well with Jones as he watched Hunter Henry, a former All-American with the Razorbacks, help demolish his team in a primetime match-up on Thanksgiving Day in the house that he built Youth Darius Philon Jersey , himself. From the very first play, Henry was making his presence felt. On 1st & 10, Henry and Antonio Gates were both lined up on the left side of the formation which created an overloaded look for the defense. Going against the grain, the Chargers decided to pass, calling a Smash-concept to the boundary.Gates immediately released to the flat while Henry pressed linebacker Anthony Hitchens vertically before breaking on a corner-route to the sideline. The TE’s speed was too much as he was able to separate and make the catch in front of the safety who was coming over the top or a 17-yard gain. His second splash-play came at the end of the first quarter with the Bolts at midfield. Lined up on the left side, the Bolts used an end-around motion from wideout Travis Benjamin to occupy the eyes of the secondary in order for Henry to come open on a deep crossing route behind the coverage. Rivers hit him in-stride for a 27-yard gain. After two more catches of 7 and 22 yards, respectively http://www.chargersauthorizedshops.com/authentic-isaac-rochell-jersey , Henry used some outstanding basketball skills to get the Chargers their first score of the game.At 6-foot-5 and 250-pounds, he used every inch of his massive frame to box out the defender for a 3-yard touchdown grab. This was Henry’s final catch of the game but it was his biggest as it opened the floodgates to an offensive barrage that allowed the Bolts to walk away with a 28-6 victory and ignite the momentum that certainly helped the Chargers finish the regular season with a 9-3 record in their final 12 games. nflshopoutlet.com
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers are hoping running back James Conner’s sprained left ankle will be ready in time to play on Sunday against New England. The AFC North leaders listed Conner as questionable to face the Patriots in a pivotal game for the Steelers (7-5-1). They’ve dropped three straight and lead Baltimore by just a half-game for the top spot in the division. Conner sat out last week’s loss to Oakland after injuring the ankle in the fourth quarter against the Los Angeles Chargers on Dec. 2.Conner is sixth in the NFL with 909 yards rushing and second with 12 rushing touchdowns. Pittsburgh struggled to move the ball on the ground in Conner’s absence against the Raiders James White Jersey , finishing with a season-low 55 yards. Jaylen Samuels and Stevan Ridley will split time in the backfield if Conner is unable to play.Steelers right tackle Marcus Gilbert will miss his eighth straight game with a knee injury. Wide receiver Ryan Switzer is listed as questionable after tweaking an ankle. After bringing in two kickers for a tryout this week, Pittsburgh is sticking with Chris Boswell. Coach Mike Tomlin confirmed Friday that Boswell, a Pro Bowler in 2017, will handle the kicking duties against New England.Boswell has missed 11 combined kicks this season Authentic Stephen Gostkowski Jersey , including two field goals against the Raiders. The team brought in former kicker Shaun Suisham this week to serve as a mentor to help Boswell out of his slump. The New England Patriots played a thrilling prime time game against the visiting Kansas City Chiefs. Naturally, emotions ran high after a Stephen Gostkowski field goal as time expired sealed the Patriots’ 43-40 win. How high? Tom Brady, for example looked pretty hyped up following what was his all-time record 200th regular season victory as a starting quarterback (via NBCS Camera Guys):After talking to the NFL’s second best tight end, the Chiefs’ Travis Kelce Matthew Slater Jersey Salute to Service , Brady had some one-on-one time with the NFL’s best tight end, the Patriots’ own Rob Gronkowski. And Brady shared some interesting plans he apparently has for the both of them: “Are you kidding me?” the 41-year old asked Gronkowski. “We’re playing forever. You know that.”Well, there you have it. Tom Brady will never retire, and as long as he is here neither will Rob Gronkowski. Sometimes Ryan Allen Jersey , life is just not fair to you if you are a defensive coordinator in the NFL. On a more serious note, though, it certainly is encouraging to see both Brady and Gronkowski enjoying the game after retirement rumors surrounded the duo all offseason long – no matter what the quarterback actually meant by his statement.
Tom Brady has made it well known he wants to continue playing in the NFL into his mid-to-late 40’s. And with a chance to win his sixth Super Bowl ring next Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams Antonio Garcia Jersey , his future plans remain unchanged. In an interview with ESPN’s Jeff Darlington, Brady said there is “zero” chance Super Bowl 53 will be his last game played. At the age of 41, Brady has showed no signs of slowing down. A year after an MVP campaign, Brady and co. bested the leagues MVP favorite in the AFC Championship Game to reach his ninth Super Bowl.In what many considered a “down” year for Brady, in which had analyst across the nation proclaiming he was “falling off a cliff” or had a “noodle arm”, Brady completed 65.8 percent of his passes for 4,355 yards, 29 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 97.7 passer rating. So why would Brady retire? His TB12 method has kept him pliable and healthy, all while he’s proved to still be one of the leagues elite quarterbacks. And just ask the Kansas City Chiefs, there’s no better quarterback in crunch time.Brady often discussed the topic last offseason, and shared in an interview with Oprah Winfrey that retirement is coming “sooner rather than later”.“I think about it more now than I used to. I think I’m seeing that there’s definitely an end coming, sooner rather than later Dont'a Hightower Jersey ,” Brady told Winfrey. “As long as I’m still loving it. As long as I’m loving the training and preparation and willing to make the commitment.”In an ESPN Instagram post that followed about the subject, Brady responded in the comments by writing “Cuarenta y cinco,” which is 45 in Spanish. With Super Bowl 53 in the near future, Brady likely isn't focused too much on retirement. He has the Patriots in their third straight Super Bowl, and nobody would be surprised if they made it four next year.A sample of the interview with Darlington and Brady can be seen here: Another day, another perplexing mystery of the universe solved, and for once, the answer isn’t “ALIENS”.(Don’t take it personally, George. I still believe.)When you’ve been building your own legend from almost going undrafted for as long as Tom Brady has, you’re bound to rack up nickname after nickname in the process, especially as society’s sense of humor evolves over the years. Not to mention that sports dorks really, really like alliteration, so you get stuff like this:Ah, Tom Terrific. That’s some 101-proof nostalgia right there Authentic Joe Thuney Jersey Salute to Service , before everybody hated New England and decided we were the combined scum of the Evil Empire New York Yankees and the Iceland Junior National hockey team from Mighty Ducks 2 because the Patriots figured out that if you trot out 5 wide receivers against a base defense, there’s probably going to be some mismatches. Ah, simpler times, when iPods only played music and Justin Timberlake ruled the land, my friends.Anyway, for as much as my fellow nerds and I here at the Pulpit use Pro Football Reference for any and all nerd-related foozeball research, the one part of Brady’s page that never ceased to grind my gears was that “The Pharoah” nickname. The rest of them all make sense, and I honestly assumed that “Sir” was someone with a sense of humor at PFR adding it in there after that Seth Wickersham ESPN “bomb” that said Brady supposedly got Fight-Club-level-pissed if rookies didn’t call him “Sir”.Which, yeah, that’s totally the vibe in these videos where Brady’s acting like he’s the regional manager. You just keep doing you, ESPN.Meanwhile, the heck is “The Pharoah” supposed to mean? For as much as the word “literally” has been callously abused over the last couple years, the word “Pharoah” has literally never been used in reference to TB12, ever. Week 2 was another high scoring slate in the NFL and another week when daily fantasy sports contests were won by rostering the passing attack from just a handful of games.Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 300-plus yards and six touchdowns in a 42-27 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers Riley Reiff Jersey , including two scores to tight end Travis Kelce. Behind early and forced to play catch-up, Ben Roethlisberger aired it out 60 times, leading to a 450-yard performance to go along with three passing and one rushing touchdown. Wide receiver Juju Smith-Schuster and TE Jesse James both cracked the 100-yard threshold and found the end zone.In total there were more than 180 fantasy points scored in the Chiefs-Steelers game. Meanwhile at Lambeau Field, Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins connected with WRs Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen for 90 combined fantasy points.Game stacks have been pivotal to winning daily tournaments this year. The Bucs-Saints shootout in Week 1 and the Chiefs-Steelers shootout for Week 2 both led to millions in prizes. Here are game stacks to target for Week 3:New Orleans at Atlanta (Over-under: 53, Falcons favored by 3 points)The Falcons-Saints game has the second-highest Vegas total this week. Matt Ryan and the Falcons host Drew Brees and company in a game that could make a perfect game stack opportunity with the duo of Ryan and Julio Jones plus New Orleans running back Alvin Kamara. Jones has been targeted 28 times to start the season for nearly 500 air yards Xavier Rhodes Jersey , a metric that balances target volume with the depth of those targets. Jones has a 40 percent market share of the Falcons passing attack. On the flip side, Alvin Kamara gets to face a Falcons defense that funnels targets to opposing running backs and gave up 14 catches for 100-plus yards to Panthers RB Christian McCaffrey last weekend. Kamara has 18 targets through the first two weeks and is in a prime spot to make a fantasy splash if the game in Atlanta turns into a shootout. Fantasy owners who are building multiple lineups could also consider mixing in Saints WR Michael Thomas and Falcons WR Mohamed Sanu to their stacks.San Francisco at Kansas City (Over-under: 56, Chiefs favored by 6 1/2 points)While a lot of the attention will be on Patrick Mahomes this week because of his 10 TDs through two games, winning daily fantasy tournaments requires separation from the crowd.Jimmy Garoppolo is in a bounce-back spot against a Chiefs defense that has allowed more than 1,000 yards per game of total offense and given up more than 400 yards passing in back-to-back games. While the Chiefs defense should benefit from a home game at Arrowhead Womens Ben Gedeon Jersey , Garoppolo is still in great position to throw for 300 yards and multiple touchdowns and will look to connect with his favorite target as Marquise Goodwin hopefully returns to the 49ers lineup. Garoppolo-Goodwin stacks can also be mixed with 49ers tight end George Kittle 鈥?who could be lower owned after disappointing players as a popular pick last week. He will return value for fantasy owners if he can even replicate half of Jesse James' stat line from last week. Chiefs players Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce and Sammy Watkins are all candidates to "bring it back" and should be inserted into your lineups to make a full-on game stack. This column was provided to The Associated Press by DailyRoto, ://dailyroto Aside from the on-field struggles of the defense, the biggest story for the Minnesota Vikings through the first quarter of the season has been what’s happened with defensive end Everson Griffen. Following an incident at a Minneapolis hotel prior to the Vikings’ Week 3 game against the Buffalo Bills, Griffen has been away from the team and working on some personal issues. While Griffen has vowed to come back http://www.vikingsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-mike-remmers-jersey , per a statement he released last week, it won’t happen prior to the Vikings’ Week 5 contest in Philadelphia. Vikings’ head coach Mike Zimmer confirmed that to reporters late last week as well. It’s hard to speculate about whether or not the loss of Griffen has had a residual effect on the team as a whole. Yes, everyone on the Vikings’ roster is a professional and has a job to do, and I understand that sentiment, but at the same time Griffen is one of the Vikings’ veteran leaders. It’s difficult to believe that his absence wouldn’t have an effect on his teammates Cheap Anthony Barr Jersey , particularly those that have played with him for a number of seasons.Zimmer also said that the main focus is on getting Griffen “right” again and then worrying about getting him back onto the football field. Hopefully we will see both of those things in the very near future, but the former is defintely more important than the latter.Whenever the comeback starts for Everson Griffen, however, it won’t begin in Week 5.
2018 Season Youth Brett Jones Jersey , Week 1: 49’ers News and Notes This week, our beloved Minnesota Vikings kick off their 2018 campaign this Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium, in Minneapolis. This is the real deal, kids. We’re finally past all the preseason hype, and Mike Zimmer and Company finally get to put rubber to the road. With that, let’s take a look at this weeks opponent:The Kyle Shanahan-led San Francisco 49’ers.San Francisco made some late-season noise in 2017 after acquiring quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (no relation) from the New England Patriots. There has been a ton of talk over the offseason of the Niners challenging for a Wild-Card spot out of the NFC West.Coming off a 6-10 season, finishing dead last, that seems like a tall task, even with Jimmy G at the helm. The 49’ers on OffenseThe team was so impressed with Garoppolo that he was signed to a $137.5 million contract, including a $48.7 million signing bonus. And they wasted little time getting him some help, drafting Notre Dame Offensive Tackle Mike McGlinchey with the ninth overall pick in the 2018 draft. They also signed former Vikings Running Back Jerick McKinnon during the free-agency period and intended to plug him in as the feature back.In preseason, the team was impressed with McKinnon, but unfortunately he tore his ACL last week, ending his season before it even started. It sucks to see that happen to McKinnon.Injuries are a part of life in the NFL, and McKinnon seems to be taking the setback well, telling the Sacramento Bee:Here’s hoping that Jet makes a full recovery. The 49’ers haven’t been gun-shy about spending money on the offensive side of the ball.According to Spotrac, San Francisco is second in the NFL in cap allocation on the offense, committing a whopping $99 million.Yes http://www.vikingsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-tom-compton-jersey , they signed Garoppolo and his contract is a big part of that, but the Vikings - who rank 14th at just under $78 million - signed a couple of guys named Cousins and Diggs to pretty hefty contracts, as well. What does the extra $21 million get them?Well, $4.45 million of it goes to fullback and Harvard-Alum Kyle Juszczyk.Juszczyk (ironically, pronounced YOOZ-CHECK), is the eleventh highest-paid player on the 49’ers roster.Keep that number in your head for a moment, $4.45 million. Now, think about this statistic:14 carries for 56 yards and a touchdown. That is Juszczyk’s career rushing total.Career!Who says going to Harvard doesn’t pay?Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in entering his fifth season in the league, part of the same draft class as Teddy Bridgewater and Blake Bortles. He spent the first three and a half years as understudy to Tom Brady. At least one publication thinks Garoppolo is ready to take Brady’s place among the greats. The Sporting News’ Nicholas McGee states:Maybe it’s just me, but I’d like to see Garoppolo do it over a period of more than seven starts before crowning him the next Tom Brady. But throwing a football apparently isn’t the only “game” that ol’ Jimmy G has!He created a stir recently by taking *ahem* Actress Kiara Mia on a dinner date in Beverly Hills! No worries of Deflategate by the looks of things. (and, yes鈥?the link to her Twitter is most definitely NSFW)Sports Gossip website Terez Owens took a thinly-veiled shot at Garoppolo and Mia, while invoking the now-infamous Nike ad featuring former Niners QB Colin Kaepernick. It wouldn’t be right to end the Niners offensive wrap-up with a story like that, so I’ll leave it with this story instead:The 49’ers signed offensive lineman Zack Golditch to their practice squad late last week, after he spent training camp with the Los Angeles Chargers.Golditch is a 23 year-old undrafted rookie guard out of Colorado State University.Ordinarily, this would hardly be newsworthy. But Golditch’s story is a little different - he is a survivor of the horrific 2012 Aurora theater shooting.Golditch was shot through the neck, just below his ear.Thankfully, it missed his spine and any major arteries. There are a few pretty good stories about what happened to him that night, if you’re willing to do a quick search of the interwebz. The 49’ers on DefenseWhile San Francisco spends money on offense like it grows on trees Rashod Hill Jersey , the same can’t be said about the defense.Only six teams spend less than the $58.5 million the 49’ers will spend this season.By comparison, the Vikings will spend nearly $92 million on the defensive side of the ball this season, good for second-most in the league. This is due partly to the fact that the 49’ers have recently invested heavily through the draft on the defensive side of the ball, and many of their best defensive players are still playing under their rookie deals. One player who is definitely not playing on his rookie deal is veteran cornerback - and longtime Seattle Seahawk Richard Sherman.Sherman was signed this offseason after rupturing his Achilles tendon in 2017.Sherman is part of the Players’ Association Executive Committee, and believes that another lockout is inevitable, when the current collective bargaining agreement expires after the 2020 season.Sherman told Joe Stiglich of the Associated Press:Kyle Juszczyk gets paid four-plus million dollars, and the owners don’t like that?REALLY!?C’mon!Hard to believe. As to this weekend’s game, Niners Linebacker and all-around special person Reuben Foster won’t be suiting up for the game, due to being suspended by the league because of his arrest on drug and weapons charges. He apologized for the incident and promised never to do it again. At least we won’t have to see him do this:Or thisRidiculous Quote of the WeekWonder if he’d want to bet 14 and a half years worth of sandwiches on that? Once again, the time for Minnesota Vikings football is nearly upon us. The Vikings will take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon out on the East Coast, and are going to try to win their first game in nearly a month. . .yes, it has been almost a month since the Vikings won a football game. That’s sort of depressing to think about, isn’t it?So, if you’re wondering about how you can follow along with all of the action on Sunday afternoon, we’ve got everything you need here in one place.Television InfoThis game is actually part of the late slate of Sunday afternoon games this week, which means that it will be kicking off at 3:25 PM Central on Sunday afternoon. This game will be broadcast on FOX, which is KMSP-9 in the Twin Cities, and the play-by-play will be handled by Joe Buck and Troy Aikman. If you’re wondering whether or not you’re in the main broadcast area for this week’s game Authentic Dalvin Cook Jersey , below is the map from 506 Sports. The Vikings/Eagles game is in red.For our friends over in the United Kingdom, this game will be broadcast on Sky Sports, specifically on Sky Sports Action and Sky Sports Main Event. Coverage of this game will start on those channels at 9:00 PM UK time. For our men and women in uniform overseas, this game will actually be shown LIVE on the American Forces Network on AFN Prime Atlantic. Kickoff is scheduled for 2100Z, which means is a 2200L kickoff for everyone in Central Europe, Monday morning at 0030L for viewers in Afghanistan, and 0500L for anyone watching in Japan and Korea.Radio InfoIf you’re not going to be anywhere near a television for this one, you’ll be able to hear the call from Paul Allen and Pete Bercich on the Vikings Radio Network. That link goes to a list of Vikings Radio Network affiliates across the Upper Midwest. See if yours will be carrying the game. There are a couple of other places you can find it online as well, including the TuneIn radio service as well as the KFAN site (if you’re on a desktop or laptop computer only. . .it won’t work on phones or tablets). For those that have satellite radio (which, I’ll admit, has been a life saver for me the last two weeks as I’ve been traveling), you can find the Vikings Radio Network feed on Sirius Channel 127. If you have XM Radio, you can hear the game on XM Channel 225, but be advised that it will be the Eagles’ radio feed. If you’re using the SiriusXM Online App, the Vikings’ permanent home there is Channel 819.Referee InfoAccording to the folks from Football Zebras, the officiating crew for this week’s contest will be led by Walt Coleman. The Vikings last saw Walt Coleman in December of last season, as his officiating crew was responsible for calling the Vikings’ 34-7 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals at U.S. Bank Stadium.Weather InfoFrom what the good folks at WeatherNation are saying about this one, it’s going to be another warm one in Philadelphia on Sunday. In fact Youth Riley Reiff Jersey , it looks like the weather conditions will be similar to what the Vikings saw last Thursday in Los Angeles. Temperatures at kickoff are forecast to be in the low 80s with some light winds and mostly cloudy skies.Streaming InfoThere are several legal subscription services that are available in order to stream the game legally. Among them are Fubo.tv, USTVNow, and Sling TV. If you’re overseas, your best bet is going to be NFL GamePass.Since it has recently been brought up, I want to make it perfectly clear that streams from Reddit or other places are not. . .I repeat, not. . .legal. If you’d like to argue about that, you can argue it somewhere else, because the moderators won’t listen to that garbage. Until Reddit, or anywhere else, has a deal with the National Football League, those streams are illegal and not welcome to be put up on this site. If you want to use them, go find them on your own and don’t be plastering them in the comments section here unless you’d rather not be in the comments of the Game Thread. . .or any other thread. . .here at DN.That should be all of the information you need in order to keep track of all the action from Lincoln Financial Field between the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday afternoon. We’ll have our Open Thread for the first quarter up about an hour before kickoff or so, and we hope that you’ll join us here for all of the fun!
The Los Angeles Chargers have had five kickers since the start of last season. They soon may be looking for their sixth.Coach Anthony Lynn said Monday that he is evaluating the kicking game after Caleb Sturgis missed a field goal and two extra points in Sunday's 29-27 win over San Francisco .Lynn did not place all the blame on Sturgis Cheap Kyzir White Jersey , but he also hasn't ruled out bringing kickers in for tryouts as the Chargers (2-2) prepare to host Oakland this week."We are looking at the entire process. We've had the snapper and holder here the entire time. It can't be that all these kickers are bad," Lynn said.Long snapper Mike Windt is in his ninth season with the Chargers and is among the team's longest-tenured players. Punter Drew Kaser also handles holding duties but Philip Rivers was the holder during the second half of a Week 3 loss to the Rams when Kaser was injured. The Chargers have the lowest accuracy rate on extra points (84.3 percent) and field goals (69.2 percent) since the start of last season. As much as Lynn would love to maintain continuity, he is evaluating everything in order to get things on track."There's so much that goes on with the snap and the hold that can affect the kicker. Now we have to look at the entire process," Lynn said. "We should be beyond that right now. We should all be on the same page right now moving in the right direction."Sturgis is in his sixth season in the league and signed as a free agent after three years with Philadelphia. He is seven of nine on field goals but six of nine on extra points.Sturgis came into the season with only four misses on 70 PAT attempts since 2015. He said the reason for the three missed on kicks Sunday was that he needs to hit the ball more solid."You have to keep your head in there and not make a bad situation worse," Sturgis said after the game. "It is a pretty low point but you have to get past it fast because if you sit here and talk about it for another week you may have the same results."It wasn't an awful day for the entire special teams unit. The Chargers found another punt returner after Desmond King averaged 20.5 yards on four returns. His 55-yarder late in the second quarter helped set up a Sturgis 48-yard field goal to tie the game at 17 at halftime.King said he didn't find out until Saturday that he was going to be returning punts due to a nagging foot injury to Travis Benjamin and JJ Jones being inactive. The second-year cornerback, who returned punts at Iowa, will have the job for at least a couple more weeks.Lynn said King is not explosive as a returner, but he can run through tackles and pick up a lot of yards after contact."They really trusted me back there. That's why I did it," King said. "I've been asking to go back there and return it. It felt natural to get the ball back in my hands and return it."Notes: Defensive tackle Corey Liuget returned to the team complex after serving his four-game suspension for using a performance-enhancing substance. Liuget said he worked out in San Jose during the suspension and is hopeful of being in the lineup against the Raiders. ... Offensive tackle Russell Okung will be evaluated later in the week after missing the second half against the 49ers due to a groin injury. If Okung is unable to play, Sam Tevi would move to left tackle and Trent Scott would play right tackle. ... Linebacker Kyzir White had knee surgery on Monday. Lynn said it was a minor procedure and he didn't have a timetable on how long White would be out.Follow Joe Reedy at joereedy Week 1 was a weak one for the likes of Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt, Patriots wide receiver Chris Hogan and any fantasy Football owner who had a Bills player in their lineup. The good news is that last week is but a fleeting memory, while Week 2 offers a fresh batch of players who must be in the lineup along with others best off sitting on the sideline.Don't be surprised to see a name from last week listed in light along with a seemingly ageless workhorse who has fantasy owners feeling like it's 2008 all over again.START: Patrick Mahomes, QB, Chiefs: Mahomes played the role of gunslinger in the win at the Chargers http://www.chargerscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-virgil-green-jersey , averaging 17 yards per completion while throwing four touchdowns. He did so without using Pro Bowl TE Travis Kelce (one catch, 6 yards). Even on the road at the Steelers, Mahomes has earned must-start status as he faces a Pittsburgh defense that won't be as fortunate as they were in last week's tie at the Browns. If Mahomes can fully use his toolbox of talent, look for a big afternoon.SIT: Chris Hogan, WR, Patriots: If Hogan can manage only one reception on five targets against a suspect Texans pass defense, then why expect much more when he'll be draped most of the afternoon by All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsay? The Jaguars allowed a mere 159 yards to Odell Beckham Jr. and the rest of the Giants receivers and will be able to duplicate that effort against a weaker New England corps of pass catchers.START: James Conner, RB, Steelers: Pittsburgh gave him 36 total touches and Conner responded with 192 yards and a pair of touchdowns from scrimmage, proving his detractors wrong. He gets a bigger opportunity against a Chiefs defense that gave up a whopping 293 yards from scrimmage to Chargers running backs last week. Don't expect Conner to again sport that massive a workload, but he'll continue to make life without Le'Veon Bell a smooth transition for the Steelers offense.SIT: Ryan Fitzpatrick, QB, Buccaneers: No one saw Fitzpatrick's monster Week 1 coming. However, there's plenty of warning to not play him against the Eagles http://www.chargerscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-russell-okung-jersey , who had the third-best fantasy effort against opposing quarterbacks while limiting Matt Ryan to a paltry 51.8 percent completion rate when throwing to his wide receivers. Fitzpatrick's career has been defined by moments of brilliance followed by moments of sheer disgust for his fantasy owners. Bet on the latter this time.START: Jared Cook, TE, Raiders: His nine-catch, 180-yard outing in the loss to the Rams shouldn't be too shocking. He's averaged 13 yards per catch in his career and has at least one reception for better than 40 yards in seven of his last eight seasons. Oakland's wide receivers can't be trusted, and the Broncos did allow 116 yards and a touchdown to Seattle's tight ends on just seven targets, meaning Cook will have something good on the menu.SIT: Derrick Henry, RB, Titans: Dion Lewis out-touched him 21-11 in the marathon loss at the Dolphins and will be better suited to expose a Texans defense that gave up 10 completions for 71 yards and a touchdown to Patriots running backs in Week 1. Henry's best chance of success would be in a non-PPR league, and while Lewis shouldn't have as big a gap in touches, starting Henry is a foolish proposition.START: Nelson Agholor, WR, Eagles: He and TE Zach Ertz combined for 20 of Nick Foles' 34 targets in Week 1, and while he managed just 33 yards on his eight catches, Agholor has a great opportunity to rebound against a Buccaneers pass defense. Tampa Bay gave up a staggering 88.4 percent completion rate (23 of 26) to Saints wide receivers while allowing more than 20 yards per catch. Foles isn't going to average 3.44 yards per attempt this week http://www.chargerscheapshops.com/cheap-authentic-mike-pouncey-jersey , as the Eagles will be more aggressive when it comes to taking shots downfield. That means Agholor, who had 10 targets last week, will be a frequent flyer.SIT: Sam Darnold, QB, Jets: Like the classic Public Enemy song title suggests, don't believe the hype when it comes to Darnold becoming an instant fantasy start. Yes, he looked great for one quarter on Monday night, but expectations must be tempered especially against a Dolphins defense that was second in fewest fantasy points allowed to an opposing quarterback. Miami's pass rush will be more intense that what Darnold saw in his debut, so fantasy owners should not buy in too hard over 15 minutes of exceptional play.START: Allen Robinson, WR, Bears: Coming off a disappointing four-catch, 61-yard effort on seven targets, it's easy to be discouraged by Robinson. However, the Seahawks ranked 28th in fantasy points allowed to wide receivers as the secondary looks nothing like the once-feared elite unit it once was. Mitchell Trubisky won't make the mistake of not getting him involved early a second straight week Brandon Mebane Jersey , so look for Robinson to crack double-digit targets on the way to a solid Monday night performance.SIT: LeSean McCoy, RB, Bills: First-round pick Josh Allen makes his starting debut at quarterback, and with the Chargers having little reason to focus on Buffalo's mediocre receiving corps, the bulk of their attention will go toward McCoy, who had eight touches for 20 yards in Week 1. The bar for improvement isn't too high, but McCoy is no longer a must-start nor even a solid RB1.START: Adrian Peterson, RB, Redskins: The Colts allowed 5.5 yards per carry to the Bengals last week, which is even more reason to buy into Peterson's revival tour for at least one more Sunday.SIT: Will Dissly, TE, Seahawks: It's hard to buy into a rookie who averaged 35 yards per catch on three receptions, especially against a Bears defense that made Jimmy Graham almost non-existent last Sunday night. The Saints offense took its time on a 20-play drive to open the game Authentic Wil Lutz Jersey , but the methodical approach didn’t lead to any points.A quicker pace later in the half finally got them on the scoreboard. Drew Brees hit three passes for 50 yards and then found tight end Benjamin Watson in the end zone for a touchdown. That was the 500th touchdown pass of Brees’ career and he joins Peyton Manning, Brett Favre and Tom Brady as the only players to hit that plateau. That score came with under two minutes to go in the second quarter and put the Saints up 7-3, but the lead wouldn’t last until halftime. Joe Flacco hit John Brown for a 56-yard gain that put the Ravens on the 1-yard-line and Lamar Jackson ran the ball in a few plays later for the first touchdown of his NFL career. Sam Darnold appeared destined to go to Cleveland in the months leading up to the NFL draft. Then New Orleans Saints Womens T-Shirt , the Browns called an audible along the way and went instead with Baker Mayfield at No. 1 overall. After the Giants took Saquon Barkley next, the New York Jets ended up with the quarterback they wanted all along and Darnold was headed to the Big Apple."I thought I could've been there or several other teams," Darnold said Monday. "I honestly haven't even thought about it since I got drafted by the Jets. With (Cleveland) having the (No.) 1 pick, I guess there was a good chance I might have gone there, so I was thinking about it before. But ever since the draft, I haven't thought about it."On Thursday night, Darnold will be in Cleveland. But as the enemy — and a reminder to Browns fans of who they might have had.Not that Darnold, who'll be making his third NFL start, has revenge or redemption on his mind."No, I'm just going to go out there and play ball," he said.Darnold has much more pressing matters at hand, such as trying to bounce back from a 20-12 loss to Miami on Sunday .The No. 3 overall pick struggled at times with some missed opportunities and mistakes, as did the rest of the Jets. But Darnold also had some positive moments, and at 21 years and 103 days old became the youngest player to throw for 300 yards. He finished with 334 yards passing with one touchdown and two interceptions."Other than the two picks, I thought I played pretty well," Darnold said. "So New Orleans Saints Hats , I'm just going to continue to try to play as consistent as possible and find completions when I can and take shots when I can."Meanwhile, Mayfield hasn't yet taken a regular-season snap for the Browns with Tyrod Taylor as the starter. The former Oklahoma star is considered the future of the franchise for Cleveland — a label that appeared reserved for Darnold."I was excited to go anywhere," Darnold said. "Whoever wanted me, whoever wanted to pick me. As a top pick, it was a dream come true right when it happened. I wasn't concerned with who was picking me, but more with where I was going and where I might need to spend the next, for now, three or four years."The Jets envision Darnold being around for a lot longer than that, and Thursday will serve as the next test — and step — in the young quarterback's development. The Browns are still winless since 2016, but they have a tie and a three-point loss through the first two games so they're no pushovers.Gregg Williams' defense has already caused problems for the likes of Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger and New Orleans' Drew Brees, and could be licking its chops to face a rookie at home in front of the Dawg Pound."First of all, I think his guys are ready to play every single game," Darnold said. "They come out fiery and at the same time, they bring pressures that, sometimes, no one's ever seen before. We're going to be ready. I'm focused on what we're doing New Orleans Saints Womens Hoodie , but also on what the defense is doing and how we can attack them."The Jets and Darnold will have to do a better job than they did for much of the game against the Dolphins. New York was just 3 of 10 on third downs, including 1 of 8 in the first half when it fell behind 20-0.This will be the third game in just 11 days for the Jets, no easy task for a rookie QB. Darnold recognizes that this week's preparation will be condensed even more than last week, when New York was coming off a Monday night game in the opener."It's a different challenge, something I haven't necessarily dealt with, but it's awesome," Darnold said. "It's just another challenge for this team and we're going to take it head on. Looking at Cleveland last night, it was moving on right after that game. We watched that game and then got right to Cleveland. Not the final score that we wanted. Obviously, we looked to come out of there with a win, but move on as fast as possible and get to Cleveland because it's a short turnaround."NOTES: TE Neal Sterling (concussion), S Marcus Maye (foot) and LB Josh Martin (concussion) did not practice, although it was more of a walkthrough session. LT Kelvin Beachum (foot) and LG James Carpenter (foot) were limited. ... Jets coach Todd Bowles said he liked what he saw from Mayfield while going through the draft process. "I thought he was he gritty," Bowles said. "Had a great workout when we worked him out. I think he's a tough player and he's going to be a good player." ... WR ArDarius Stewart returned from his two-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance enhancers. The Jets have until 4 p.m. Wednesday to make a decision on whether to activate or release him. If you’re a daily fantasy player, before each game I will look at three/four players from the New Orleans Saints and their opponent’s rosters that I would target in daily fantasy (based off their value and potential results). Unfortunately, the Saints are on a bye week this week, but daily fantasy knows no such thing as “bye.” So we’ll continue Womens Customized New Orleans Saints Jerseys , but expand out look into the rest of the NFC South.Obviously, Saints QB Drew Brees is a safe QB for daily fantasy leagues, but spending your money on a top-tier starting QB leaves you scraping the barrel to fill out the rest of your roster. So here are two Panthers, one Falcon and one Buccaneers that provide the most bang for your buck. (Values from Fanduel.)QB Jameis Winston (TB) - $7,400Famous Jameis might be one of the best daily fantasy plays in the entirety of Week 6. At $1,100 cheaper than the most expensive QB available (and the 11th most expensive QB), he is an incredible value play going against one of the worst defenses in the NFL - the Atlanta Falcons.RB Christian McCaffrey (CAR) - $8,500McCaffrey is also $1,100 cheaper than the most expensive player at his position this week. In daily fantasy leagues that include full or half-point PPR, McCaffrey is a great play against a Washington Redskins defense that is likely to be still reeling after an embarrassing performance against the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football.WR Calvin Ridley (ATL) - $6,700Ridley is an even better value play this week, coming a whopping $2,400 cheaper than the most expensive WR available in daily fantasy. As Julio Jones continues to struggle finding the end zone, Ridley has been one of the beneficiaries. We saw against the New Orleans Saints that Ridley can score (scoring twice, in fact), so he’s a high-ceiling play for Week 6.DST Panthers (@ Redskins) - $3 www.saintscheapshops.com ,900This play is actually a bit of a reach, as the Panthers are one of the cheapest DSTs available this week. But like the Saints last week, the Panthers have a stout defensive line that can give the Redskins rushing game fits all game. Adrian Peterson and Chris Thompson are both still banged up, so the Panthers could find themselves with similar success as the Saints on Sunday. My full daily fantasy lineup this week: QB: Jameis Winston (TB) - $7,400RB: Christian McCaffrey (CAR) - $8,400RB: Marshawn Lynch (OAK) - $6,500WR: Calvin Ridley (ATL) - $6,700WR: Jarvis Landry (CLE) - $6,900WR: Doug Baldwin (SEA) - $6,200TE: Jared Cook (OAK) - $6,400FLEX: Robert Woods (LAR) - $7,300DST: Panthers (@ Redskins) - $3,900 Custom Washington Redskins Jerseys
When a New Jersey racetrack and a casino start taking bets on sporting events Thursday http://www.ravensauthorizedshops.com/authentic-orlando-brown-jr.-jersey , they will be part of an industry primed for tremendous growth, much of it taking place on smartphones, according to a panel of national gambling experts.
Speaking Wednesday at the east Coast Gaming Congress at Harrah’s casino in Atlantic City, a panel of sports betting and technology company representatives predicted the fastest-growing segment of sports betting will be bets made on smartphones as games are being played.
While bettors always will want to bet on the outcome of a game before it begins, many also want to predict particular plays or developments within a game, the panelists said.
So in addition to wagering on whether the New York Yankees would beat the Boston Red Sox, many gamblers also would want to bet on whether Yankee Aaron Judge would hit a home run just as he arrives at the plate, or how many batters Red Sox pitcher Chris Sale would strike out in a particular inning.
Such betting is the main element of growth in the European sports betting market.
”The growth of in-play has been a huge driver,” said Neale Deeley, vice president of Sportradar US, a data company that works with more than 70 sports federations and leagues around the world on fraud detection, including the NBA, NHL and Major League Soccer.
”Mobile and in-play were absolutely made for each other,” added Lee Richardson, CEO of Spectrum Gaming Group, a gambling consulting firm near Atlantic City. ”It’s what customers want to do.”
The forum came a day before New Jerseyans were to begin placing their first legal sports bets. Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy was to place the state’s first legal sports bet at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Monmouth Park, a horse racing track near the Jersey shore in Oceanport.
Thirty minutes later and about 70 miles to the south, Atlantic City’s Borgata casino will start taking sports bets.
No other New Jersey racetrack or casino has announced plans to begin taking bets within the next few days, although most if not all are expected to do so eventually. The Golden Nugget casino and the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, near New York City say they’ll have sports betting operations up and running by the start of football season in September.
New Jersey’s Division of Gaming Enforcement issued its regulations for sports betting providers Wednesday, clearing the last major obstacle for it to begin.
The state won a U.S. Supreme Court case last month clearing the way for all 50 states to offer legal sports betting if they choose.
Experts at the conference cautioned against unduly optimistic projections of sports betting revenue and tax money for states; the activity accounts for about 2 percent of Nevada casinos’ total winnings. In New Jersey, Moody’s has estimated sports betting could initially bring in $108 million http://www.ravensauthorizedshops.com/authentic-kenny-young-jersey , or about 4 percent of the state’s annual gambling revenue.

The list of players sitting out this weekend’s conference championships is almost as impressive as the starting lineups: Julian Edelman. Carson Wentz. Dalvin Cook. Dont’a Hightower. Allen Robinson. Sam Bradford.
Following the NFL’s season of carnage that claimed the likes of, among others, Aaron Rodgers, Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, J.J. Watt, DeShaun Watson, Odell Beckham Jr. and Joe Thomas, this year’s final four all overcame not only the odds – ”Minneapolis Miracle , anyone?” – but devastating injuries to key starters.
”We have a tough and resilient team,” Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Chris Long said of the NFC’s top seed , which is missing its second-year QB in Wentz, an MVP hopeful when he blew out a knee in December.
Even before Wentz’s injury thrust backup Nick Foles into the starting job for the playoffs, the Eagles lost nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters, playmaking middle linebacker Jordan Hicks, versatile return specialist Darren Sproles, and special teams captain Chris Maragos.
Yet, here they are, 60 minutes from Minneapolis and Super Bowl 52.
”I think that starts at the top with Doug, because he sets the tone for being resilient and even keeled,” Long said of his coach, Doug Pederson. ”At the end of the day http://www.ravensauthorizedshops.com/authentic-jaleel-scott-jersey , we have a tough group of guys.”
So do the Minnesota Vikings, who are trying to reach their first Super Bowl in more than four decades and fulfill mantra to ”Bring it Home” and become the first NFL team to play the title game in its own stadium.
And they’re doing so behind Case Keenum, who crashed Tom Brady’s playoff party along with fellow perennial backup Foles and Jacksonville Jaguars QB Blake Bortles.
Together, the four quarterbacks left standing have a combined five Super Bowl rings, two NFL MVP awards and four Super Bowl MVP trophies. Brady, of course, owns all of that hardware himself.
Such is the panorama of these playoffs following a season of pain in which so many superstars were rendered sideline spectators with broken bones, snapped ligaments, torn muscles.
Keenum replaced an injured Bradford, who had replaced an injured Teddy Bridgewater. Bradford, now back in uniform as Keenum’s backup, blew out a knee in the first month of the season, as did rookie running back in Cook, who needed reconstructive surgery to repair a torn ACL.
Behind resilient coach Mike Zimmer , who resisted the urge to quit just before he got the Vikings’ head coaching gig in 2014, Minnesota rolled right along. Keenum deftly took over for Bradford, and Jerick McKinnon and Latavius Murray became a productive backfield tandem.
”We’ve got a bunch of fighters on this team,” Zimmer said. ”They’ve been a resilient bunch all year long. I expect it to continue to be that way.”
The Patriots are also a bunch of fighters; they reached their seventh straight AFC title game despite losing Edelman, Brady’s top target, to a torn ACL in the preseason, and Hightower to a torn chest muscle in November.
Linebacker Kyle Van Noy stepped in for Hightower and ranked third on the team with 73 tackles and second with 5+ sacks despite missing three of the final five games with a calf injury.
Van Noy’s sack total was just a half-sack shy of Hightower’s career high set in 2014.
”The thing about K.V. is he’s very versatile,” said Patriots safety and defensive captain Devin McCourty. ”So we’ve used him a bunch of different ways. … He’s been a big asset to our team.”
The Jaguars are the healthiest of the remaining playoff teams. They have only one opening-day starter on injured reserve: former Pro Bowl receiver Robinson, who tore his left ACL on Jacksonville’s opener.
Four months removed from reconstructive surgery, Robinson is now traveling with the team, so he’ll be on the sideline Sunday at New England, serving as a mentor to a raw receiving corps.
”Every person in this locker room put in a lot of work to get to this point, with me being one of them,” said Robinson, who was poised for another big year after dominating the league’s best secondary in training camp.
His injury on Jacksonville’s third offensive snap created a huge void for the offense. Marqise Lee and Allen Hurns tried to pick up the slack, but they ended up on the sideline at one point with injuries, too, leaving rookies Keelan Cole and Dede Westbrook to assume bigger roles.
Cole, an undrafted rookie from tiny Kentucky Wesleyan, had 42 catches for 748 yards and three scores in the regular season. He added a clutch 45-yard catch that set up a late TD in Jacksonville’s 45-42 stunner at Pittsburgh last week.
”I wish I could just wake up tomorrow and feel like I did Sept. 9,” Robinson said, ”but I understand it’s going to be a process. I know I’ll be back to that point and better.”
Like so many other stars, Robinson will be in street clothes Sunday, cheering on his teammates in hopes of getting a sideline pass to the Super Bowl.
In this case, what happened in that Sept. 11 opener is indicative of the teams meeting in Minnesota for the second time this year.
Both teams underwent significant changes since the Vikings’ 29-19 victory.
Minnesota quarterback Sam Bradford completed 27-of-32 passes for 346 yards and three touchdowns in the first meeting, earning NFC Offensive Player of the Week honors. Bradford played only a single half the rest of the season as Case Keenum replaced the injured Bradford and put himself in MVP consideration.
New Orleans jettisoned former Vikings running back Adrian Peterson after a miserable four-game run and thrived with Mark Ingram and rookie Alvin Kamara, becoming one of the league’s most dangerous running back duos. The Saints’ defense also started to find its way.
“They’re a different team than they were Week 1, but so are we,” said Minnesota tight end Kyle Rudolph, who scored a touchdown in the first game. “Everyone in the NFL is trying to find their identity early on. They’re different from a personnel standpoint and they’re also different from a team, like us, who has found their identity.”
The teams found their identity but had plenty of personnel changes along the way. The Vikings’ defense is healthy, but Keenum has taken hold of the starting quarterback spot and rookie running back Dalvin Cook, who ran for 127 yards and a touchdown in the first meeting, has been out since Week 4 because of a torn ACL.
“There are some similarities in regards to scheme, but I think when you go through a course of an NFL season and you look at the attrition that takes place, there are eight or nine of our starters that are playing in that game that aren’t playing in this game, and I’m sure the same exists for Minnesota,” New Orleans coach Sean Payton told reporters this week http://www.eaglesauthorizedshops.com/authentic-dallas-goedert-jersey , according to the team’s website. “And you begin to take shape as the season progresses to who you become and I think both teams have done that.”
In the Saints’ case, they altered their offensive identity to rely on Ingram and Kamara. New Orleans ranked fifth in the league in rushing this season as Ingram ran for a career-high 1,124 yards and 12 touchdowns. Kamara led the league with 6.1 yards per carry as the Saints had an NFC-best 4.7 yards per carry as a team.
Peterson had six carries for 18 yards in the first meeting in Minnesota. With the carries being split three ways, Ingram had six carries and Kamara touched the ball 11 times on offense.
“They got a little bit of everything,” Vikings defensive end Brian Robison said. “Ingram’s more of a downhill runner. Kamara is definitely a guy that can bounce to the outside. He’s got speed to hit the edge and they’re both really good in the screen game.”
The Vikings were second in the league in run defense, allowing 83.6 yards per game. They’ve held two of their past three opponents to fewer than 46 yards.
Selling out to stop the run isn’t a solid strategy either. In last week’s win against Carolina, the Saints ran 22 times for 41 yards as the Panthers dared New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees to beat them.
Brees had 376 passing yards and two touchdowns, and receivers Michael Thomas and Ted Ginn each had more than 100 yards receiving against the Panthers.
“We’ve been telling y’all all year, man, don’t sleep on Drew,” Ingram told the New Orleans Times Picayune. “And if you’re going to stack the box and try and stop the run and take us out the game, he’s going to hurt you. We’ve been telling you he’s the best quarterback in the league and he’s still Drew Brees. He proved that (Sunday).”
Perhaps the biggest change for the Saints has been the development of the defense. After allowing 470 total yards to Minnesota in Week 1, New Orleans gave up 555 to New England the following week. Slowly, communication improved on the back end combined with the play of rookie Marcus Lattimore and Ken Crawley at cornerback.
The Saints were third in the NFL and first in the NFC with 20 interceptions in the regular season. Lattimore led the team with five.
“He’s a good player,” Vikings Pro Bowl receiver Adam Thielen said of Lattimore. “He’s physical. He can run with anybody. He’s playing with a lot of confidence right now. He’s got great ball skills. He’s pretty much got everything you need to be a really good corner in this league.”
New Orleans also pressures the passer. Cameron Jordan tied Minnesota’s Everson Griffen for fourth in the league with 13 sacks. As a team, the Saints’ 42 sacks were tied for seventh in the NFL.
Like Brees, Keenum didn’t make mistakes once replacing Bradford. He threw seven interceptions http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-rashaad-penny-jersey , one fewer than Brees, and the Vikings allowed the seventh-fewest sacks in the league behind a patchwork offensive line.
“He is playing well,” Payton told the team’s website of Keenum. “You can see him getting the ball to a lot of different guys. These guys, I think, have done a great job on offense. I think they are playing a game really that suits both sides of the ball.”
Minnesota should head into Sunday healthy, including the return of rookie center Pat Elflein from a shoulder injury.
New Orleans is battered. Left guard Andrus Peat and defensive tackle Tony McDaniel were placed on injured re
MILWAUKEE — For the Atlanta Braves, the big question as they headed from a long three-game series in Yankee Stadium to Milwaukee concerns the status of star first baseman Freddie Freeman.
All indications are Freeman will play the opener of a four-game series with the Milwaukee Brewers, but it will not be official until the lineup card is posted Thursday afternoon at Miller Park.
“If you ask him, he’s going to say yes,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “But until we get there and see how it is, we won’t know. It was probably good that we got him out of there and started on some treatment.”
Freeman exited in the fourth inning of Thursday’s 6-2 loss to the New York Yankee Stadium with an upper right arm contusion. He was injured when he was hit in the third inning by CC Sabathia, and by pulling him early to get treatment, Freeman and the Braves hope the precautionary measure means he can play Thursday.
“Luckily, it didn’t hit my hand,” Freeman said. “I’ll take the elbow and a little soreness. As long as I have the strength in my arm tomorrow, I can deal with the pain.”
Atlanta is 4-2 on its 10-game trip. The Braves swept three games in St. Louis last weekend and took a 5-3, 11-inning victory over the Yankees on Monday before losing the last two games.
“I thought we handled ourselves really well http://www.seahawksauthorizedshops.com/authentic-shaquem-griffin-jersey ,” Snitker said. “We won a really tough game the first night, we put ourselves in a position to win today and today here we come again. The guys never quit. They know they can play with anybody and it’s a good sign.”
Milwaukee (51-35) is the first team in the National League to reach 50 wins after completing a three-game sweep of the Minnesota Twins with a 3-2 win on Wednesday.
Brad Miller and Nate Orf played roles in three close wins as Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell is employing a mix-and-match approach at shortstop. He is using that strategy while remaining optimistic that shortstop Orlando Arcia will rediscover his offensive stroke at Triple-A Colorado Springs and rejoin Milwaukee for a playoff push.
Miller has gotten off to a good start with the Brewers. He extended his hitting streak to nine games Wednesday and has a hit in 10 of 12 games since joining the team, with a pair of home runs.
Orf was batting .307 with an .875 OPS when he was summoned Monday from Triple-A and recorded his first career hit with a solo home run against the Twins.
Both are immediate offensive upgrades to Arcia, who was slashing .197/.231/.482 but remained in the regular lineup because of his defensive ability.
While Miller saw extensive action at the position earlier in his career and Orf has spent most of the season there at Colorado Springs, neither player is a natural shortstop so Counsell was prepared to sacrifice defense to shore up the bottom of the order.
“When we sent Orlando down, we had multiple players on the roster who aren’t true shortstops so we’re trying to find guys who can play shortstop and who can kind of fill in at shortstop,” he said. “I don’t think we have an answer, but this is how we’re going to try it.”
A more stable solution could be coming soon. Tyler Saladino was on a roll before suffering a severe ankle sprain on May 29.
In 16 games with the Brewers, he batted .324 with three home runs and eight RBIs while playing defense well enough to make it possible for Milwaukee to send Arcia down a first time on May 25.
Saladino has been rehabbing for the last week and could rejoin the team in the next few days.
“Tyler will be back soon and will end up having some of the shortstop duties,” Counsell said. “We’ll sit down here soon and figure that out.”
The right-handed hitting Orf is likely to get the starting nod Thursday when the Brewers face Braves left-hander Max Fried.
Fried (1-2, 2.55 ERA) returned to the rotation last week when Brandon McCarthy was placed on the disabled list and struck out 11 over 6 2/3 innings and earned his first victory of the season as Atlanta beat the Cardinals in St. Louis.
Fried remained with the team after his last outing but didn’t learn for sure that he’d get another start until Wednesday morning. He’s looking forward to getting his first taste of meaningful action as the two winningest teams in the National League face off for the first time this season.
Milwaukee counters with right-hander Jhoulys Chacin (6-3, 3.71) who bounced back from his worst outing of the season to hold the Cincinnati Reds to a run over five innings while striking out nine his last time out.
Signed to a two-year contract over the winter, Chacin has been a stabilizing force in the Brewers’ rotation. He leads the staff with 18 starts and 97 innings his season.
Chacin has pitched well against Atlanta throughout his career, posting a 3.94 ERA in six previous starts. Due to a lack of run support in those contests, is just 1-4 lifetime against the Braves.
Number 10,001 might come a bit tougher on Tuesday night.
That’s because St. Louis (41-36) will have to deal with Cleveland ace Corey Kluber in the middle game of the teams’ three-game interleague series at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
Kluber (11-3, 2.10), who at this point might be a favorite to win his third American League Cy Young Award, is coming off one of his standard dominating outings. In a 12-0 win Wednesday against the Chicago White Sox, Kluber permitted just one hit and one walk in seven innings, fanning seven.
Following a rare hiccup in a June 15 loss to Minnesota, which touched him for four hits and four runs in five innings, Kluber was back in form.
The Cardinals got a taste of Kluber’s level of consistency three years ago on a cold May night in Cleveland, and it went down about as well as a bottle of pesticide. Kluber fanned 18 and walked none over eight innings, ceding just one hit in a 2-0 victory that was the highlight of a 9-16 season hampered by a lack of run support.
That St. Louis lineup bore little resemblance to the one that Kluber will face Tuesday night, just like the Cardinals’ starter bears little resemblance to the one that opened this season pitching at a Cy Young level.
Carlos Martinez (3-4, 3.24) has seen his earned run average double since coming off the disabled list on June 5, failing to make it past the fifth inning in four straight starts. Martinez was pummeled for eight hits and seven runs, five earned, over four innings of an 11-3 defeat Thursday night in Milwaukee.
But St. Louis manager Mike Matheny says Martinez is getting closer to the pitcher that pitched to a 1.62 ERA in his first eight starts.
“I thought his stuff was better last game than his line suggested,” Matheny said of Martinez. “He knows how close he is to getting locked in, so I’m excited to see him pitch tomorrow.”
Martinez, who will face the Indians (43-34) for the first time in his MLB career, has usually delivered shutdown efforts in interleague outings. In 16 career games http://www.saintsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-marcus-davenport-jersey , 12 of them starts, against American League competition, Martinez is 4-4 with a 1.97 ERA.
The Cardinals became the seventh MLB franchise to reach five figures in victories with a good all-around outing. They held an explosive offense to four hits, scored all their runs with two outs and played a clean game defensively.
“I’d take that every night,” Matheny said. “Give them a zero, give us a few runs and I’ll trust our bullpen. Guys came through with big hits. We did a lot of things right … it was a big day.”
A little rest did Kris Bryant a lot of good.
Bryant ended a 24-game homerless drought, the longest of his career, and Ian Happ and Kyle Schwarber also went deep as the Chicago Cubs routed the St. Louis Cardinals 13-5 on Friday night.
”I know that there’s probably going to be plenty more times in my career when that happens and it’s all part of the journey,” Bryant said about his power outage. ”As much as we hate it as players, everybody goes through it at some point in their careers. It’s nothing new to me, so on the surface everything has been peachy and pretty easy for me, but it never felt easy.”
Bryant drilled a 448-foot http://www.giantsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-saquon-barkley-jersey , two-run shot to left field off an ineffective Michael Wacha in the third inning for his first home run since May 14. The 2016 NL MVP capped a six-run fifth with an RBI single and drove in another run with a sacrifice fly in the seventh. His four RBIs were a season high.
Bryant had been hitless in his four previous games. Cubs manager Joe Maddon sat the All-Star slugger on Wednesday and Thursday.
”It looked like the ball was coming (off his bat) hotter,” Maddon said. ”I thought KB looked good. He looked good. I loved the base hit, I loved the sacrifice fly.”
Jon Lester ran his scoreless streak to 17 innings before giving up a solo home run to Marcell Ozuna in the fourth as the Cubs won for the first time in four tries at Busch Stadium this season. Lester (8-2) allowed two runs in six innings to earn his fourth straight win.
”That might be the best stuff he’s had all year from my angle,” Maddon said. ”That velocity was there. He just continues to trend in the right direction.”
Lester helped himself at the plate, too, driving in a run on a bunt in the fourth and reaching on catcher Yadier Molina’s throwing error that led to a second run as the Cubs extended their lead to 5-0.
Anthony Rizzo had three hits, was hit by a pitch and scored a run. Schwarber launched a three-run homer that traveled a projected 465 feet to straightaway center in the fifth, the third-longest homer by an opposing player in Busch Stadium III history.
Happ led off the third with a home run to right field. His first homer since May 22 snapped a 20-inning scoreless streak for the Cubs.
”We hit homers but we also did the little things well, too,” Maddon said. ”We ran the bases well.”
Wacha (8-2) allowed a career-high nine runs, eight earned, in a season-low four-plus innings. The three home runs he gave up tied a career high.
Matt Carpenter homered in the sixth and drove in two runs, but the Cardinals lost their third consecutive game.
”Bottom line, we lost and it wasn’t pretty,” manager Mike Matheny said. ”And it’s a matter of trying to conserve arms, trying to get a couple guys off their feet and figure out a way to have some individual things that are done well and build on and have some confidence that will put us in a better spot tomorrow.”
TRAINER’S ROOM
Cubs: RHP Yu Darvish (right triceps tendinitis) threw a 35-pitch bullpen. He is scheduled to throw another one when the team returns home next week.
Cardinals: 1B Luke Voit was recalled from Double-A Springfield and RHP Matt Bowman (right hand finger blisters) was activated from the 10-day disabled list. 1B Jose Martinez was placed on the paternity list and RHP Daniel Poncedeleon was optioned to Triple-A Memphis.
UP NEXT
Cubs RHP Kyle Hendricks (4-6, 3.48 ERA) starts Saturday night against RHP Carlos Martinez (3-2, 2.96). Hendricks has dropped three straight decisions for the first time in his career. Martinez has walked 12 over 7 2/3 innings in two starts since returning from a lat strain.
The Texas Rangers have placed first baseman Ronald Guzman on the seven-day concussion disabled list and recalled utilityman Ryan Rua from Triple-A Round Rock.
The Rangers made the move Tuesday http://www.patriotsauthorizedshop.com/authentic-danny-shelton-jerseyy , a day after Guzman left in the sixth inning of a 7-4 win over San Diego after his head struck the knee of third baseman Christian Villanueva when the rookie was diving back on an attempted pickoff.
Guzman was called up to become the regular first baseman early in the season after injuries forced the Rangers to juggle their lineup. The 23-year-old is hitting .227 with seven homers and 30 RBIs.
Rua, who was on the opening-day roster http://www.patriotsauthorizedshop.com/authentic-jason-mccourty-jersey , is set for his fifth stint with the Rangers this season. Primarily a left fielder and first baseman, Rua has a .163 average with two home runs with the Rangers and is hitting .236 with three homers in Round Rock.

The Chicago Bears have released oft-injured linebacker Pernell McPhee and safety Quintin Demps.
The first major free agent signing by general manager Ryan Pace Milan Lucic Jersey Kids , McPhee had trouble staying healthy in three seasons with the Bears. He had 90 tackles and 14 sacks in 36 games for Chicago after playing his first four years with the Baltimore Ravens.
McPhee missed the first six games in 2016 following surgery on his left knee and had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in July. He also sat out three games late last season because of a shoulder ailment and finished the season on injured reserve.
A broken arm limited Demps, who signed with Chicago in March Oscar Klefbom Jersey , to three games.
On a 91-degree night with the pennant race heating up, the New York Yankees enjoyed some more yucks against their biggest rival.
Hicks launched three home runs and the Yankees pummeled David Price again, connecting five times in the first four innings Sunday on the way to an 11-1 rout of the Boston Red Sox.
”It feels awesome,” Hicks said. ”I blacked out after the third one. Kind of didn’t know what to do. But I mean, it’s exciting.”
Luis Severino became the first 13-game winner in the majors, cruising through 6 2/3 shutout innings of two-hit ball after the Bronx Bombers quickly built him a big cushion. With the teams trading blowouts all weekend, the Yankees (54-27) took two of three from Boston to regain baseball’s best record and first place in the AL East.
”It’s going to be a dogfight. We have a good team, they have a good team,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said. ”A weird series, honestly. It was very weird. Weird games.”
Aaron Judge and Gleyber Torres also homered for New York, which leads the 19-game season series 5-4. The next time the teams meet is early August at Fenway Park.
”I’m sure it’s going to be a fun few months,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said.
The first Yankees leadoff batter to hit three home runs in a game, Hicks connected twice from the right side of the plate and once from the left. He smacked a two-run shot to right field in the second inning and a solo drive to center in the fourth that chased Price (9-6) and made it 8-0.
Hicks pulled his 14th of the season into the right-field stands in the eighth off Hector Velazquez. It was the first three-homer game by a Yankees player since Alex Rodriguez, part of the ESPN broadcast crew Sunday, accomplished the feat at Minnesota in July 2015.
The only other Yankees hitter to go deep three times at the current Yankee Stadium was Curtis Granderson in April 2012 against the Twins.
Judge had three hits and scored three times. Torres socked a three-run shot that gave New York a 4-0 lead in the first, and the Yankees finished with a season-high six homers to boost their major league-leading total to 137 http://www.dolphinsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-kalen-ballage-jersey , setting a franchise record for before the All-Star break.
Exactly halfway through its season, New York is on pace to surpass the 1997 Seattle Mariners’ mark of 264 homers.
”That’s probably as good a night as we’ve had all year,” Boone said. ”Obviously, a big series to grab it on Sunday here. That’s a peak at what we can do.”
Higashioka homered into the second deck in left field off Price for his first major league hit after an 0-for-22 start to his career. Higashioka, wearing No. 66 in pinstripes, received the silent treatment when he returned to the bench before happy teammates finally engulfed him.
”The feeling is indescribable,” Higashioka said at his locker, the team’s championship belt for the night draped over his chair. ”I laughed. I didn’t expect that, but I mean, obviously it was amazing. It was just a great feeling.”
Price was rocked for eight earned runs – matching a career high – and nine hits in 3 1/3 innings, his latest flop against the Yankees. He had never given up more than three homers in a game.
Severino (13-2) lowered his AL-leading ERA to 1.98 and improved to 8-0 at home this season. He walked off to a standing ovation from the sellout crowd of 46,795 and tipped his cap , right on track to become the first Yankees pitcher to start the All-Star Game since Roger Clemens in 2001.
”It means a lot,” Severino said. ”Facing the Red Sox is one of the best things in baseball.”
Boston (56-29) was outhit 16-4 and didn’t score until the ninth.
THE PRICE IS WRONG
Making his 40th career appearance (39th start) vs. the Yankees, Price fell to 2-6 with an 8.43 ERA in nine starts against them since signing a $217 million contract with Boston before the 2016 season. He has faced New York twice this year, allowing 12 earned runs in 4 1/3 innings, and is 0-5 with a 10.44 ERA in his last five starts at Yankee Stadium.
”Honestly http://www.dolphinsauthorizedshops.com/authentic-durham-smythe-jersey , I felt fine. They put some good swings on what I felt like were pretty good pitches,” said Price, who entered 7-1 with a 2.72 ERA in nine starts since being diagnosed with a mild case of carpal tunnel syndrome that caused him to miss a scheduled turn at New York in May. ”I’ve faced the Yankees many times. It’s time for me to kind of go back to that drawing board.”
TRAINER’S ROOM
Red Sox: Right-handed reliever Tyler Thornburg is expected back this week after rehabbing from surgery for thoracic outlet syndrome last June.
Yankees: Higashioka started at catcher for Austin Romine, who exited Saturday’s game with tightness in his left hamstring. A precautionary MRI was negative, and Romine was available off the bench. He could return to the lineup Monday night against Atlanta. Romine has been filling in for All-Star backstop Gary Sanchez (groin), who might be able to come off the disabled list right after the All-Star break July 20-22 against the Mets. … GM Brian Cashman said if everything goes well, RHP Masahiro Tanaka (two strained hamstrings) will make a minor league rehab start this week and rejoin the Yankees early next week in Baltimore – perhaps in time to pitch in a July 9 doubleheader.

Red Sox: Three interleague games at Washington, where RHP Rick Porcello (9-3, 3.60 ERA) faces former Detr A teenager among men, Juan Soto has impressed his teammates on the Washington Nationals with his maturity and, even more so, his potent bat.
Soto hit a tiebreaking two-run double in the eighth inning, and Washington beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-2 Thursday night in the deciding matchup of a three-game interleague series between neighboring rivals.
Soto, a 19-year-old rookie, is batting .326 with 16 RBIs in 28 games. Starting in the cleanup spot for the first time, he drew a walk and delivered the game’s pivotal hit.
”I think we’re all amazed every single day,” Washington ace Max Scherzer said. ”He puts together great ABs. He has antics and has some flair. He’s a great young player. He’s just enjoying himself.”
”He’s got unbelievable poise,” Nationals manager Dave Martinez said of Soto. ”No matter what the situation is, he goes out there with a game plan.”
Whatever that plan is, it’s effective.
”I just try to be focused and keep working,” Soto said.
Rendon homered for the Nationals, who received seven strong innings from Scherzer and flawless work from their bullpen.
Newcomer Kelvin Herrera (1-0) pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning and Sean Doolittle got three straight outs for his 20th save in 21 tries.
Seeking to end a rare run of two straight losses, Scherzer left a tied game after allowing two runs – both on solo homers – and striking out nine.
Afterward, the right-hander heaped praise upon Soto for the manner in which he’s adapted to playing in the big leagues.
”He has a great feel for the strike zone,” Scherzer said. ”To have that type of eye, it’s remarkable for him to be able to do that at this time and this age and this level.”
Activated from the 60-day disabled list before the game, Colby Rasmus homered for the Orioles in his first at-bat since April 6.
”Me and Max, we go way back, so I felt real good,” said Rasmus, who had been sidelined with a hip injury.
In addition, Rasmus made an outstanding throw from right field to the plate, nailing Wilmer Difo on a tag-up play in the seventh inning with the score tied.
Baltimore starter Kevin Gausman gave up two runs and four hits over six innings. The right-hander was lifted with the score tied, leaving him winless in his last seven starts.
WALK THIS WAY
Martinez put Harper in the leadoff spot for the first time since May for this reason: ”The thinking is if he’s hitting up top, he’ll start taking his walks again and it will get him going.” It worked. Harper walked twice.
DAVIS COMEBACK
Struggling Orioles slugger Chris Davis will start Friday night in Atlanta, manager Buck Showalter said. Davis hasn’t played since June 11, when an 0-for-5 outing against Boston dropped his batting average to .150. Since then, he’s been working on his swing and mental approach in an effort to turn around his unproductive season.
ROSTER SHUFFLE
In addition to activating Rasmus from the DL, the Orioles optioned OF Joey Rickard to Triple-A Norfolk and moved LHP Richard Bleier (latissimus tear) to the 60-day DL. Also, DH Pedro Alvarez cleared waivers and accepted an assignment to Norfolk.
TRAINER’S ROOM
Orioles: RHP Chris Tillman (back) will next pitch for Class A Delmarva after allowing three runs in two innings for lower Class A Aberdeen on Wednesday night.
Nationals: RHP Brandon Kintzler (flexor strain) is close to coming off the DL. Martinez hopes the reliever can pitch an inning on a rehabilitation assignment before being is activated. … Martinez said RHP Jeremy Hellickson (right hamstring strain) will soon go on a rehab assignment and pitch five or six innings.

Orioles: Alex Cobb (2-9, 7.14 ERA) helps Baltimore open a three-game series on the road Friday night against the Braves, who lead the NL East.
Nationals: Tanner Roark (3-7, 3.87) takes the mound in the opener of a three-game set against the visiting Philadelphia Phillies, who entered play Thursday in a second-place tie with Washington.
”We know we have a really good offense and if we keep that game close anything can happen in any inning,” Piscotty said. ”We’ve been doing it all year. It’s a great testament to this team, how well we battle late.”
Khris Davis added an RBI single for the A’s, who have won 14 of 17 to move a season-high nine games over .500.
”We have a young group that’s played together that expects to win,” manager Bob Melvin said. ”There’s a lot more to go before we consider it special, but here recently we’ve been playing really well.”
Piscotty doubled in Olson in the second, and then had another two-base hit in the sixth. He snapped a 2-all tie in the eighth with a two-run double off Craig Stammen.
Green opted to pitch to Piscotty in the eighth. Jed Lowrie drew a leadoff walk off Jose Castillo (1-2) and Davis doubled before Olson was walked.
”Olson’s a power guy and he’s a left-hander and there’s a base open and it’s a tie ballgame. It made a lot of sense,” Piscotty said. ”I was ready as soon as guys were on second and third.”
Lou Trivino (7-1) retired two batters for the win. Blake Treinen pitched the ninth for his 22nd save.
Christian Villanueva hit his 17th home run for San Diego. The Padres lost all four games against the A’s this season.
”We’re not getting hits with runners in scoring position,” said Green, who is in his third year managing the Padres. ”Sometimes the best thing you can do is relax, go play baseball and enjoy what you’re doing and then the hits start coming.”
OH SO SMOOTH
Oakland third baseman Matt Chapman was hitless in three at-bats, but helped with a pair of sparkling defensive plays. The A’s rookie made a diving stop on A.J. Ellis‘ grounder in the fourth, and then made a spinning backhand grab of Hunter Renfroe’s sharp grounder down the third-base line to begin a 5-4-3 double play in the sixth.
San Diego’s Luis Perdomo, who was called up from the minors before the game, allowed two runs over 5 2/3 innings in his first start since April 15.
Oakland’s Sean Manaea gave up two runs in seven innings.
TRAINER’S ROOM
Padres: Closer Brad Hand rejoined the team after missing Tuesday’s game for personal reasons.
Athletics: A day after getting spiked on the side of his leg while covering first base, Chris Bassitt was still noticeably sore, but isn’t expected to miss his turn in the rotation. … RHP Daniel Mengden (sprained right foot) will make a rehab start with Triple-A Nashville on Friday.
Athletics: RHP Paul Blackburn (2-2, 6.46) pitches Friday in Cleveland, seeking a second consecutive win over the Indians.

Oakland Raiders long snapper Jon Condo says the team has told him he won’t return in 2018.
Condo said on his Twitter account Wednesday that the Raiders told his agent he won’t be back when he becomes a free agent next week.
Condo was initially signed to Oakland’s practice squad in 2006 and became the team’s long snapper the following season. He played 173 of 176 games over 11 years with the Raiders.
Oakland had signed two long snappers to futures contracts earlier this offseason, Andrew East and Bradley Northnagel.
The Raiders previously announced that kicker Sebastian Janikowski won’t be back next year, meaning there will be no players remaining who were acquired before longtime owner Al Davis died in October 2011.
After 19 years serving in various roles in the personnel departments of several NFL teams Connor Williams Color Rush Jersey , Gaine is the one calling the shots now.
”I started at the bottom and worked my way to the top at every level of every organization that I’ve been in,” said Gaine, who was introduced as the Houston Texans’ general manager on Wednesday.
Gaine spent time as a player for three seasons before turning to the other side of the game in 1999 as a scout with the New York Jets. He has also worked with Dallas (2005-07), Miami (2008-13), Houston (2014-16) and Buffalo (2017) – most recently as the vice president of player personnel.
”I do believe, with a great amount of humility, I’ve been in five different organizations, so I have a unique perspective on what it has taken to win and what it has taken to achieve,” Gaine said. ”I’ve had a chance to play a small part in going to the playoffs and winning division titles in each of those organizations. But most importantly, I think it requires good people, people that love football and are passionate about winning. Equally, a good process.
”I’ve seen varying processes in terms of how to build a roster and how to build a championship-caliber team, and I hope to implement some of those things here at the Texans.”
When Gaine last worked for the Texans, he served as the director of pro personnel in 2014 and then as the director of player personnel for two years. Heading into this new role with Houston, Gaine said he will work collaboratively with Texans coach Bill O’Brien, who recently received a four-year extension.
”What you see on Sundays obviously is the result of player acquisition and coaching, but there’s a process that’s involved in terms of getting to Sunday,” he said. ”Bill and I are very philosophically aligned in terms of how to do that, how to build a right program, how to build a right culture, and it’s not just the football roster, but it’s also the football operation and that requires every aspect that touches the game and touches the locker room.
”All those aspects of the football operation, Bill and I are philosophically aligned in terms of how to run it and how to do it.”
One position on the Texans’ roster that Gaine won’t have to worry much about is quarterback – once Deshaun Watson returns from injury.
Watson tore a knee ligament during a practice on Nov. 2 Bradley Chubb Color Rush Jersey , but quickly established himself as an exciting playmaker. He finished his rookie season passing for 1,699 yards and 19 touchdowns – the most TD throws in a quarterback’s first seven career games since 1970.
”He’s certainly a foundational piece for us, in terms of what we can build around,” Gaine said. ”It certainly would be an advantage for any general manager coming into a team to have a quarterback in place that you believe in, that you know that can help you win football games.”
Having a high-caliber player such as Watson at their disposal, Gaine – who has been evaluating players since arriving back in Houston – understands they have to put pieces around him to help him succeed on the field.
Some of that will be done through free agency, but also in the draft, in which the Texans will not have a pick in the first or second rounds this year.
”We will pursue every avenue to improve this roster, as it relates to the draft, to free agency, to waiver claims, to trades, to practice squad steals, to tryouts, workouts,” Gaine said. ”Whatever we have to do to upgrade the roster in any aspect of the operation, we’ll continue to do that. If free agency presents the opportunity for us to add a championship piece to the roster, we certainly will pursue that.”

AP NFL website: Mike Foltynewicz loves trying to one-up his fellow hurlers in the Atlanta Braves red-hot pitching rotation.
He kept even with cohorts by tossing five shutout innings and Freddie Freeman homered as the Atlanta Braves held off the St. Louis Cardinals 6-5 on Sunday.
”It’s like a friendly competition with a fun group of guys,” Foltynewicz said. ”It’s a good vibe.”
The Braves outscored St. Louis 22-10 in sweeping a three-game series in St. Louis for the first time since May 11-13, 2012.
Tommy Pham homered for St. Louis, which has lost four in a row. The Cardinals scored five times in the seventh to rally from a 6-0 deficit.
Foltynewicz matched Julio Teheran and Max Fried to post the Braves third successive scoreless appearance by a starter. Teheran tossed six scoreless innings a 5-1 win on Friday. Fried did not allow a run in 6 2-3 innings of an 11-4 victory on Saturday.
Foltynewicz (6-4) surrendered one hit – a fourth-inning single to Marcell Ozuna. He struck out nine and walked three in an 86-pitch outing.
”He never gave in, he kept grinding,” manager Brian Snitker said.
Foltynewicz has allowed just two hits and one run over 10 innings in two outings since coming off the disabled list with tightness in his right tricepts on June 25.
”He was kind of wildly effective,” St. Louis infielder Kolten Wong said. ”When you’re throwing as hard as he was, it makes it tough.”
The Braves three starters allowed seven hits over 17 2-3 innings with 24 strikeouts in the series.
”We’ve been feeding off each other,” Foltynewicz said. ”We’re always pulling for each other, pushing each other, asking questions. We hang around together and you can see that we take it out to the mound. It’s been a really fun time.”
A.J. Minter picked up his third save in as many tries by setting the side down in order in the ninth. He has not allowed a run in his last seven appearances.
Freeman’s 16th homer of the season, a two-run drive, pushed the lead to 3-0 in sixth. The blow highlighted a five-run uprising that also included a run-scoring hit from Culberson.
Pham hit a three-run homer off Peter Moylan in the seventh to bring the Cardinals to within 6-5.
St. Louis starter John Gant (2-3) allowed four runs on four hits over 5 1-3 innings.
”I’ve definitely got to do better,” Gant said. ”Came out on the losing end, so anytime that happens, improvements need to be made.”
Francisco Pena had a two-run single in the seventh for St. Louis, which will play 17 of its next 20 games on the road.
The Braves have been in first place or tied for first in 60 of the last 62 days. They kicked off their 10-game road trip in style.
”To come out and win the first three games, that’s really nice,” Culberson said. ”But this series is done. We took care of business. Time to move on.”
Atlanta infielder Ozzie Albies extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a sixth-inning single.
TRAINER’S ROOM
Braves: C Tyler Flowers returned to the starting lineup after missing Saturday’s game. He suffered a muscle cramp in the sixth inning of Friday’s 5-1 win.
Cardinals: RHP Luke Gregerson began a rehab stint with Triple-A Memphis on Sunday. He did not allow a hit over one inning. Gregerson was placed on the 10-day disabled list with shoulder impingement on May 16.
UP NEXT
Braves RHP Anibal Sanchez (3-2, 2.68) will face RHP Jonathan Loaisiga (2-0, 1.93) in the first of a three-game series against the Yankees in New York. Sanchez is 4-1 in six lifetime starts against the Yankees.
Cardinals: RHP Carlos Martinez (4-4, 3.22) takes on Arizona LHP Robbie Ray (3-0, 4.01) in the opener of a three-game series in Arizona that kicks off a nine-game road trip. Martinez is 2-0 in three starts at Chase Field.
Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy says he’s making progress with his right ankle injury but his status is uncertain for Sunday’s AFC wild-card playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
McCoy spoke to the media on Thursday for the first time since suffering the injury in Sunday’s 22-16 win over the Miami Dolphins. He has yet to practice this week Mark Walton Color Rush Jersey , but did participate in stretches Thursday before leaving the field with a trainer.
”I’m definitely happy with how things are working out so far, but there is a lot more room for improvement, especially with where I want to be,” McCoy said. ”I know my body, I know myself, especially the way I play is more cutting and running.
”It’s been feeling a lot better. I’m out of the boot and I can walk around without any pain. So that’s a plus.”
McCoy has been Buffalo’s most explosive and most consistent playmaker, finishing the year with 1,138 rushing yards and six touchdowns. His absence would leave a hole in Buffalo’s offensive attack; the Bills finished the regular season with the 31st-ranked passing attack in the league.
”I just want to be able to cut well enough where I don’t have a lot of pain when I’m cutting,” McCoy said. ”I just want to be close or the best as far as 100 percent as I can get. But the type of game like this, you’ve got to lay it all on the line. If I can’t get 100 percent, as long as I’m out there and I can run effective enough I’ll do it. So we’ll just see.”
McCoy was quick to mention previous times when he tried to play through injuries in Buffalo and had limited success. McCoy has attempted to play through hamstring injuries in each of the past two seasons. Each time, his production significantly dropped.
”I don’t want to make any promises,” McCoy said.
The Bills have no established running back behind McCoy on the depth chart. Marcus Murphy was promoted from the practice squad ahead of the Week 17 win over the Dolphins, rushing for 41 yards on seven carries. Buffalo also has veteran fullback/running back Mike Tolbert.
”I think we’re moving in the right direction,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said of McCoy. ”Will we be able to get there in time? We’ll see.”
J.D. Martinez hit his major league-leading 25th home run, Rafael Devers delivered a tiebreaking double and the Boston Red Sox beat the skidding Los Angeles Angels 9-6 on Wednesday night after squandering a six-run lead.

The Astros trailed by one when Tony Kemp singled off Ryan Tepera (5-3) with no outs in the ninth and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Then with one out in the inning, Bregman sent a fastball to left field, where it bounced off the wall above the Crawford Boxes, to give Houston the victory.
Bregman also doubled twice after hitting a homer and doubling three times in a win on Tuesday night.

NEW YORK (AP) – David Freese hit a go-ahead, two-run single and Pittsburgh rallied for four runs in the ninth inning to beat New York.
Gregory Polanco had an RBI single and Josh Bell added a sacrifice fly in the ninth as the Pirates, shut down by Zack Wheeler most of the night, came back against a beleaguered New York bullpen to win for just the second time in eight games.

Eflin won his fifth straight start and kept the surprising Phillies in the thick of the NL East race.
